On May 12, 2026, Queen Máxima opened the new Mammal Building of Stichting AAP in Almere. The building provides shelter for various species of exotic mammals in an environment better suited to their natural needs, with more space, professional care, and an adapted climate. AAP is a European animal welfare organization dedicated to the well-being of exotic animals such as primates, lions, and tigers.

Following the opening of the new building, the Queen met with volunteers and staff members of Stichting AAP and toured the facilities. During the visit, she learned more about the stories of rescued animals and the work of the foundation. AAP (Animal Advocacy and Protection) operates two rescue centers: AAP Almere and AAP Spain.

I particularly love photo 7. It is nice to see some royal ladies not wearing these extremely long dresses all the time. I love the shape and colour of the outfit although not so much the somewhat shiny material ( which may be the camera and may be better in person) and I think her hat for this outfit is perfection. Silk can be shiny.

  2. It's refreshing to see a royal wearing a shorter skirt and showing off great legs.
The length of the skirt is still modest but fashionable. Let's hope the Windsor ladies take note. I love the emerald green colour of the fabric and the fit of the suit. The pillbox hat is classic.

    1. Absolutely agree. The colour is lovely and Queen Maxima looks great. Especially like the pillbox hat. I also wish that this fashion for overly long dresses would go. If you look at the photos from the garden parties last week, most guests are also in the same style

Dear Sandra, Why always compare? Personally, I find that very hurtful and childish; every person is unique and valuable!

We are on a fashion blog aren't we ? We discuss how the royal ladies and sometimes the royal men are dressed and whether we like it or not and what we eventually would like to change. It is logic that we compare the outfits of the different royal ladies. Several commenters on this blog think the same about the length of the Windsor's clothes.
I think the majority on this blog are adults and are supposed to know that in other countries ladies do not always like to wear too long dresses which end just above the ankles. We are not judging persons but we do judge the way they dress. If people are hurt by this and find it childish, it is time that they start thinking like adults.

No 20:36, this being a fashion blog never gives the right to be hurtful. That is never an excuse. This is an old photo blog that someone started years and years ago and has kept going - which happens to have open comments. The purpose is not for people to criticise others - however the comments are open and this is how some people use it. Your comment re being “adults” “supposed to know that in other countries ladies do not always like to wear too long dresses when end just above the ankles” is so crazily insular and egocentric. Have you traveled? Have you been to different countries? Have you seen the huge variety of cultural norms and differences? To be adult is not to be on one opinion on hem lengths (?!) but rather to understand that not all are like you - or necessarily like what you like. I have been to countries where every woman wears long skirts and find them fascinating. I myself love longer hem lines, which I find so easy and feminine to wear. I love the current fashion that enjoys this trend. And I am an adult. I have different ideas from yours.

I like this suit. A little shiny? Yes. The hat is different and with those emeralds. Hurtful? Criticizing hem lengths? Give me a break. People say much nastier things. Hems are on clothing. The Windsors haven't been great fashion wise in a while. Opinion. Mine. We're all entitled to them. Others are criticized far worse.

I agree with Sandra, the Windsors could use a fashion refresh for sure. And Maxima looks amazing, as usual.

Cultural difference, accept it, you wouldnot ask this from the Japanese Court for example.

The Japanese Court skirts aren't as long. The Brits have started this the last few years. I don't mind long hems I wear them myself I have a scar, but all the time is a bit dull. Frankly I think fashion for the last few years has been dull with very few bright spots amongst the royals. Fashion was better when I followed regularly years back.

Maxima looks wonderful. I suspect that this suit might be a re-wear from some years ago? If so, both Max and the suit have borne the test of time very well.

I love this shade of green on Queen Maxima--it is very flattering. And, what a treat, she has chosen my favorite hat style--a pillbox. She really does look marvelous. I think the only issues I have are the ill-fitted neckline and the very shiny fabric for a daytime event.

Since when does a Queen wear a bottle green suit/hat/high heeled shoes, to such a very casual appearance, this is not about rule making, its simply a case of "look at ME".

This skirt suit is at least 12 years old; and the style is of its time -- but I still think this ensemble suits Maxima, as does the lovely pillbox worn with her hair down. This look has a lot of classic simple elements and I'm very happy to see her rewearing it. Lyra

Yes it's a rewear and there's nothing wrong with this suit. I think this length looks so much more swinging than those long Windsor dresses

  13. This emerald two piece suit is very flattering. Wonderful fit, the skirt especially I like the length of this skirt. The top fits well. I'd say this is silk fabric due to the sheen. The overall look of the ensemble is simple, subtle but elegant and appropriate for this visit. The color is sublime. Her emerald and diamond earrings are beautiful, the stones are a unusual shape, I like this style. They are of substance, a wonderful size. Her shoe and clutch color is a good choice.

I agree with those who commentated negatively, there is so much that is disagreeable with this outfit. Colour, material, fit, outdated style, shiny tights, silly hat, wig(as someone suggested), shoes (she needs to look at new trends like the block heel the DofE favours). Nothing is new with her of late, and certainly nothing stylish, IMO.
