Queen Mathilde of Belgium is leading the Belgian Economic Mission to Türkiye from May 10 to 14, 2026. The Queen is participating in activities scheduled for May 10, 11, and 12. Queen Mathilde arrived in Istanbul on May 10, where she was ceremonially welcomed at the Istanbul Airport State Guest House by Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir.
Later, First Lady Emine Erdoğan welcomed Queen Mathilde at the entrance of the Ceremonial Hall of Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul. After posing for the press at the Crystal Staircase, the First Lady and the Queen proceeded to the Medhal Hall for their meeting. Emine Erdoğan later toured the Century-Old Elegance exhibition, organized by the Institute of Maturation, together with Queen Mathilde.
The First Lady also presented Queen Mathilde with a brooch featuring honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, and tulip motifs, handcrafted over the course of a week by instructors from the Institute of Maturation using traditional needle lace and embroidery techniques.
First Lady Emine Erdoğan and Queen Mathilde also viewed garments from the Anatolia collection designed by Turkish fashion designer Özgür Masur at Dolmabahçe Palace. The 100-piece collection was created following a three-year research process conducted at women’s institutes across Anatolia, reinterpreting the region’s traditional production techniques and fabrics through contemporary designs.

The camera's perspective is in more than one photo quite bad, looking upwards. For someone with beautiful long legs, this perspective makes them look as if wandering on stilts. How can they choose such a bad perspective? But, independently from the photographer's fault, Mathilde's two-piece in pink is not really favourable for her - at least from the waist upwards. The top is just a lot of fabric pulled together at the waist, at the neckline and at the wrist - more than this is not offered here, as if made in a hurry, no time for design and fitting. She an do so much better - as the first ensemble with black pants and patterned jacket (thankfully without lapels) shows.
ReplyDeleteYes the choice by the photographer to take shots up from the ground do skew her legs. Agreed. I assume the pink is Natan; for some reason tops from Natan all too regularly look like the designers gave up the design and chucked something together.
DeleteShe is such a lovely lady, always warm and no red carpet manners like some other queens. Her new hairstyle suits her perfectly, it’s fresh and modern.
ReplyDeleteI like all the outfits of all the three ladies. I find the cream outfit with deep red head covering worn by the Minister of Family and Social Services particularly stylish and attractive. Mathilde looks lovely in both her outfits.

The Minister with the deep red head covering is half Turkish, half Belgian. Probably the reason why she was sent to welcome Queen Mathilde.
ReplyDeleteI love the striking colours of both of Mathilde's outfits. They stand out but not in an overpowering way. The multi-colour swing coat of the first outfit looks great with the black pants. The coral two-piece is more feminine with interesting gathering on the sleeves and neckline. It seems Mathilde and Maxima are two of the hardest working royals. They are always out and about.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde's top and pants are navy, not black to match the navy parts in the print of the coat.
DeleteShe looks wonderful, both outfits look good. The long jacket particularly looks splendid, combined with the blue top and pants, perfection. Her shoe and clutch, great color nice combination. Her hair looks soft, and natural. These outfits look very appropriate for this visit.
ReplyDeleteVery nice look for Q Mathilde. Once again far away from home. Nice to see her.

Brussels-Istanbul is not a very long flight.
DeleteBoth sets of ladies outfits are very well color coordinated with each other.
ReplyDeleteReally bad fitting again with a Natan pant set. Will they ever learn?
ReplyDeleteWho’s they? Natan?
DeleteQueen Mathilde arrived on her first economic mission leading the Belgian delegation. The coat by Esmeralda Ammoun has been worn by QM on several occasions since 2020. The accessories are : the La Prima clutch by Armani in red, red earrings and red shoes by Carolina Herrera. After the official welcome QM apparently changed clothes to wear a coral ensemble by Natan, also a rewear. Although this choice is not one of her best looks, I think for a mission to Türkiye the high closed neck and long sleeves and the wide pants are very appropriate. I just read that QM will only stay in Türkiye the first 2 days of the mission due to other engagements which were already planned.
ReplyDeleteI love both these outfits without reserve.
ReplyDeleteThe first with the interesting, well-cut coat is particularly striking. I enjoy how Mathilde has repeated the accessories which she wore with this ensemble in 2022 --- the red shoes and red clutch are still such a delightful touch. Lyra
It happens frequently with Q.M.'s clothes which she wears even several years later to use the same handbag, same shoes, same jewelry. I think her clothes are conserved in a dressing room and the accessories are conserved in a box nearby the coat.
7:02 I object to the idea that we must all at any age look youthful. I don’t particularly like Mathilde’s big hair because I prefer her natural, non sprayed hair which sits closer around her face and I think looks much lovelier. But - this is my hair preference and it’s not to make a 50-something look younger! This cannot be our goal!

DeleteQueen Mathilde doesn't spray her hair much. As I explained in my comment (in Fr.) @ 12:57. If one's hair is blowing up because of the wind, it is a sign that one does not use much hairspray. If you saw all the other pictures which are taken outside, you would see the wind is lifting her hair. Since Queen Mathilde has a lot of hair it looks quickly like "big" hair. The queen's hair is looking very natural lately. I prefer someone with a lot of beautiful natural curls, which are perhaps not easy to control than someone with thin damaged hair which has been bleached to much in the past and with the result of a dead, dry and unkempt hair look.
I agree with 12:57. The queen is allowed to chose the style she wants, even if not appealing to some bloggers. I don't always agree with some of her choices, but it is not relevant. I come here to see pictures.
