On the United Nations’ World Biodiversity Day, celebrated on May 22, 2026, Queen Mary of Denmark shared a Biodiversity Day message on her social media account, along with photos taken during her visit to Australia with King Frederik X. This year’s International Day for Biological Diversity is being observed under the theme “Acting locally for global impact.”
Queen Mary wrote the following in her World Biodiversity Day message: A few months ago, I revisited the ‘street of my childhood’ — the coastline stretching past Alum Cliffs, which beneath the water’s surface hides a rich and diverse ecosystem.
The towering and dense forests of seaweed — also known as ‘giant kelp’ — along Tasmania’s coast are home to hundreds of animal and plant species. But in recent decades, 95% of these kelp forests have disappeared, partly due to ocean warming, which is occurring three to four times faster than the global average. This is a major loss for the cold-water biodiversity.
That is why researchers from the University of Tasmania are now working to restore the giant kelp forests along Tasmania’s coastlines. They are doing this by replanting the kelp forests and by harvesting sea urchins, which would otherwise consume all the kelp. They are also rebuilding the population of lobster-like rock lobsters, which feed on the sea urchins and thereby help ‘guard’ the kelp forests.
All of this is taking place in collaboration with local authorities and fishing companies, Indigenous communities, and volunteer divers. The restoration of Tasmania’s kelp forests is an inspiring example of exactly this — acting together locally for the benefit of us all.

Great photos of the K & Q from their Aussie visit and I still love this outfit, especially the jacket and belt. Appreciate her shining another light on a great cause….that is one giant lobster!!! I was able to visit Tasmania for the first time recently and it’s a very beautiful place and they are all very proud of their local who became Queen!

ReplyDeleteIsn't it nice that today there are emojis for people who can't write. Before it was much more difficult to express yourself. Yes, those beautiful inhabitants of the sea can look very scary.
DeleteI really like Mary's outfit. It's one of her best casual looks.
She looks great! I like the length of her hair.
ReplyDeleteDitto! She looks youthful and polished. MR
DeleteYes her hair looks great. Catherine, Princess of Wales please take note!

ReplyDeleteI, too, love this jacket and belt which she has worn many times.

A very important cause that Mary is involved in. I hope she will help to raise awareness due to being well known there. I like her jacket and unusual belt, a pity I can't see more of the dress but it goes well with the jacket.
ReplyDeletePour mieux voir la robe ce n'est pas compliqué, il vous suffit de chercher les photos de leur voyage : https://www.newmyroyals.com/2026/03/denmarks-king-and-queen-reach-tasmania.html
DeleteLovely photos of them both.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to see these beautiful photos from the Royal visit to Tasmania, glorious!
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit, the jacket and dress looked wonderful as did the belt. It was great to see this rewear.
Beautiful pictures but the connection with fashion is O. Queen Mary's clothes are rewear which have been discussed on several earlier occasions. Pictures of other royal families which have nothing to do with fashion are not published here either.
ReplyDeleteTout à fait à mon goût cette veste avec la ceinture originale que Mary a su ramener dans ses bagages !
