  1. The print of the dress is very striking with the alternating combination of light and dark blue. It's a great style for hot weather. It's refreshing to see Letizia move away from pantsuits.

Compensées or not, the result is still a higher position for her heel than normal these days.

I love this Queen, rarely dressing “above” the public she’ll be with. Just neat and pretty and relatable.

Letizia is wearing a very summery dress, lovely colours. She can wear such a style as she has very toned arms, lucky her! I like the belt with the detail at the back, and the espadrilles are a good idea too.

Dear 15:45, while it is true that Letizia has beautiful arms that she’s toned very well over time, I think we can all wear sleeveless dresses without needing gorgeously toned arms. When the weather calls for it, bare arms feel great and none of us should feel we have to hide our arms away (except for obviously hiding them from the sun perhaps!). So “she can wear this style”, but so can any lady who wants to. I M H O!

Sorry, Anon 18 37, if you have what we call ‘bingo wings’ that is loose skin and excess fat which is usually a problem from middle age onwards, sleeveless dresses have to be avoided. You don’t look good and you’re not good to look at!

Agree Anon 18:37…life is too short so wear what you like and makes you comfortable!

Well bony shoulders and muscled arms are not that attractive either.

What a lovely dress for a book fair in the heat. It is gorgeous material and fits like a glove. The espadrilles look perfect with it.

Queen Letizia is wearing a beautiful sun dress. Love the color. The first time that I see she has bound the ribbons of her espadrilles until under her knees. I couldn't wear it like this, not very easy to walk with, not possible with a skin like mine.

No not a style I like, the shoulders just seemed too pronounced, toned or not. Not the most flattering dress, though the colour is lovely.

I'm just surprised at the height of her shoes/heels.

You mean compared with her usual height? - yes I agree that these seem notably much higher and perhaps from her former shoe collection. Flat ones would have looked equally elegant.

This dress is fine for a private sunny day among friends but not for the queen of Spain at a book fair. She could have given the dress more dignity if she had added a jacket with sleeves or something similar. If you look at the other ladies in attendance, you will note that their outfits are far more appropriate. Furthermore, this fair is a leading cultural event, all this is beyond me.

Well … a queen has no obligation to dress fancy all the time. She’s not a story book princess but a real queen who is always dressed for the occasion without overdoing it. A leading cultural event means it’s an important cultural event… not that people have to dress in a particular way. This is Spain. We dress for the heat and we love our relatable queen. Above all she’s very very experienced in her role and in dressing appropriately, so let’s trust her to get it right and not imagine with our limited experience that she’s got it wrong, eh?!

I agree about dressing for the heat. It was hot almost everywhere in Europe during the last week. One must always dress according the weather. She is dressed appropriately.

Virginia, in a hot outside and casual event, a queen does not need to be dressed uncomfortably to a standard that is simply not a Spanish outdoor standard. She’s totally apt for her country and her context.

Love this airy summer dress in beautiful blue tones. The length is spot on and the espadrilles are made for this casual, outdoor summer event.

  12. On ne peut pas dire qu’elle a
toujours porté ce modèle d’espadrilles car suite à son problème de pieds, elle avait opté pour un style de chaussures à bride arrière au talons très bas !

I'll be commenting on espradrilles next time another royal wears them and gets crititised. Seems a bit biased to me

They are great for those who love them and we don’t need to compare royals who all have their own preferences and different cultures and clothing needs.

Superb - lovely dress for the heat, totally unflustered, her deportment and presence elegant without the need of a constant grin unlike another royal.

Many other royals smile very generously. I don’t understand the barb in your comment - but I see you wanted to make it.
