On May 13, 2026, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium received the members of the Queen Elisabeth Competition jury at the Royal Palace in Brussels. The jury, chaired by Gilles Ledure, consists of Belgian and international cellists. Afterwards, Queen Mathilde attended a semi-final session of the competition at Flagey in Brussels.

We have some very interesting openings in the fabric on both shoulders, as if the sleeves wanted to depart from the dress and live their own separate life. Maybe this feature is introduced in order to distract from the extensive amount of ruching on the tummy which is not really advantageous for the wearer.

DeleteI love your sense of humor.!
I would add that this dress is a bit of a letdown after the outfits we saw
on Mathilde on her recent foreign trip.
Cate.
That has to be the most hilarious ( and apt!) description of an outfit I have ever read on this blog! 😁
DeleteGreat review!
Delete@Anon 23:24 - I agree with your comments about the dress. I have been to bridal showers where one of the games is “toilet paper bride” - you wrap the bride in toilet paper to create what look like a veil and wedding dress…Mathilde’s dress had the unfortunate effect of bringing that game to mind immediately for me. She is lovely, and her hair is looking softer in a nice way, but the dress is not the best.

Let me guess, Natan, the brand who for the most part makes women look wonky. The Queen herself is lovely.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Anonymous 00:31!
DeleteThe burgundy lace skirt and the white shirt yesterday which was also by Natan received nothing but good comments. All depends of which public makes the comments. Like Queen Maxima always says "one cannot receive a 10 every day".
DeleteQueen Mathilde and Q Maxima are wearing Natan a lot and most of the time they make a fine choice in his collection. So this negative comment about Natan makes no sense at all
DeleteNice look for Q Mathilde.

I love the shoulder detailing on this frock. If the rest of the dress were plain and sructured, without the ruching, I think the look could be excellent. Putting 2 entirely different features in the one dress -- ruching together with draped shoulder slits -- seems an odd choice to me; I would prefer to see just the slits, or just some ruching. Lyra
ReplyDeleteWell said: couldn't have said it better myself!
DeleteC’est horrible ces manches. Josée.
ReplyDeleteUp close this dress is very attractive with interesting features. The sleeves are eye catching and unusual. The dress fits well. I like the color of her accessories. Her hair looks soft and natural, well styled. The King looks well groomed and attired.
ReplyDeleteHonnêtement, je peux dire que les détails des manches apportent une touche originale à cette robe !
ReplyDeleteIn any case I admire Queen Mathilde that she could wear a light summer dress like this with temperatures between 11 and 13 degrees C. Especially when she passed 2 and a half day in a warmer climate. She must be tired too even if we don't see it.
ReplyDeleteLes fronces auraient dû cacher son petit ventrou au lieu de le faire ressortir. C est cela que j aurais demandé à la couturière.
ReplyDeleteMais je suis une vieille dame lambda qui fait attention à son allure
Wow sleeves are competing with the waist ruching, not sure who won the tug a war, just not flowing as well as it could. This designers loves to use fabric in weird ways. She makes it look good.
