The Prince of Wales Shares a Photo to Commemorate His Mother on Mother’s Day

Princess Diana wore a bright pink blouse and jeans. The photo shows Princess Diana with Prince William in a field of flowers

On March 15, the Prince of Wales shared a message along with a previously unseen photograph to commemorate his late mother, Princess Diana, and to mark Mother’s Day. The photograph was taken at Highgrove in 1984 and shows Princess Diana with the young Prince in a field of flowers. The Prince penned: “Remembering my mother, today and every day. Thinking of all those who are remembering someone they love today. Happy Mother’s Day. W.”

The Prince has often spoken about how he tells his own children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – about their late grandmother, and how he has followed in her footsteps through much of his charity work, particularly in support of homelessness charities.

I find that very touching. I also love how this generation of royals have changed a long held protocol of not speaking of feelings and personal emotions.

Diana was very pretty and Catherine is a very pretty woman. Such a nasty first comment. Why must some women be so nasty? Perhaps it makes them feel better about themselves in some twisted, weird way.

Diana was truly a one of, there has and there never will be another Princess like her, she was unique in all she did. Kate is nothing like her; she is like her mother Carole. William looks pretty cute.(Tara)

    1. I agree. She was truly unique. I really miss her. And in terms of fashion she was amazing. She wore clothes like nobody else. Even if I hated an outfit she somehow made it look good. I'm glad she is not forgotten.

Kate is certainely very different. She is not as beautiful as Diana was - but she is far more solid and stable. She does NOT need to be the centre of attention - as Diana clearly wanted to be - and was.

    3. Yes, Tara, luckily William grew up and married a wife on eye-level! Not some pseudo-mother who dominates him.

Everybody is unique. Diana was very much loved by many people, but of course, she, too, was not an angel. A unique mixture, like you and me.

    5. I don't think that "Kate is not as beautiful as Diana was".

@Tara What an odd thing to say "Kate is nothing like; she is like her mother Carole." Why on Earth would Catherine be like the late princess - they were not related. And it natural for Catherine to be like her own mother. Everyone is unique. It is comments like yours that tarnish Diana's reputation. Let the woman rest in peace. She was human - did both good and bad (as we all do). You've turned a man's touching tribute to his late mother into something pretty vile. As William himself has said, Catherine will carve out her own role and she isn't his mother (he doesn't want her to be his mother).

Indeed, lovely, touching photograph, William must have put all his heart into this.

Happy Mother's Day to all (it is celebrated in May in Italy).

What a beautiful photograph and words from Prince William. I admire how he chooses to honour his mother in all he does. I’m sure Diana would be as proud of him today,as she was when he was her little man’!

Love this picture. It s also beautiful gesture from Prince of Wales to his brother, I believe her mother was pregnant of Harry when picture taken due of her hair style. Well I'm just guessing.

  17. Prince William could not have picked a better photo to use. Its beautiful. His mum in this photo was pregnant with Harry at this point. The surrounding bloom of flowers so gorgeous. Diana looked beautiful, the pink of her sweater really pops in color amongst the glorious colors of the flowers. Thinking of his mum, and sharing, speaks volumes of William. I simply love it. Rest easy and peacefully Ma'am x You are missed but not forgotten.

I didn't know P.Diana was pregnant with Harry in this pic.

Love this and what a treat! Also, a nice shining ray of hope in royal following. The reign of William V is part of Diana's legacy and things will be different when he's King.

And before anyone bemoans William posted a photo without his brother... Look harder! While we haven't seen this photo, we've seen one from the same day in the Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy documentary. William mentions in the documentary she was pregnant with Harry in it. So he's there. William has not erased his brother.

Not that Harry needs to be in every photo William posts with his mother. William and Harry are brothers, but each had individual relationships with their mother in addition to their shared sibling relationship. She belongs to them both, she loved them both more than anything, and would adore all 5 of her grandbabies.

Think how hurt Princess Diana would be about her two sons being estranged for so long, if she was still alive. And how would she have felt about Harry's decision to leave his royal duties, and leave the monarchy. I know her heart would ache for her sons feud.

Women's day is on the same date all over the world. Mother's day should also be standardized to be on the same day all over the world! I think Father's day is on the same day everywhere? It's so odd how Mother's day is on a different day in different countries.
