  1. Velvet is a luxurious fabric and looks regal. It's smart how Sophie paired the dark coloured blazer with the lighter toned stylish dress. The dress would also look good on it's own with the contrast of the fitted top against the flared, pleated skirt. The Gucci shoes are gorgeous especially the gold accessory.

Imagine what the average low income mother can do with the cost of this outfit.

Perfect, from top to toe. (except maybe the little bag that looks more like a toilet/make-up pouch). The Duchess is such a good representative for the UK Royal Household.

Her signature look, jacket over long skirt or dress. Nice colour for her. Gucci shoes are interesting.

I have very much understanding for buying pret-a-porter, instead of custom-made, of course, why not. But I don't have any understanding for *not* changing a length which is quite evidently not made for her body height. . This can ruin an otherwise nice outfit. 10 or 15 centimetres and it would be fine., but so it is akward, it draws my eyes to that place where it is not fitting. Really unhappy that she lacks this minimum of refinement, to wear a correct length.

Re your expressed lack of understanding, I think we can put Sophie’s long hems down to: she likes them. And that, dear 15:45 is completely valid. Fashion does not dictate what we must wear, we get to choose! And fashion is wide ranging and is there to suit many tastes. It is certainly not a “minimum of refinement” nor an offence to choose longer hems! That’s unfair to say about lovely Sophie who likes what she wears and wears it because she likes it.

Entirely agree with you re length, Anon 15 45. I cannot understand how D of E can think these ultra long outfits look good ( even if she likes them) I’ve said before that I often try to look at the photos of her from the waist up as the full length ones so often disappoint

I was thinking how come it be that she always wears lovely clothes and to me the final impression never creates the "wow" factor when it absolutely should - the outfits are perfect. I was thinking it was maybe the hair.. the body shape.. Now I strongly lean into the idea the fitting is the major reason.

One last word added for the length-compaining comment: even Annalena Baerbock, who is famous for getting nothing right in politics (so excellent place for her in the UN, instead of the German government), gets it right with the length.

    1. Ha ha ha, she might get nothing right in politics - but she always knew how to look good on photos!

    2. I agree with your remark about Sophie´s long skirts - in general. In this particular case though, I think she looks alright. I don´t mind the length, however I tend to agree with the comment below that her jacket is a tad too long to accompany such a long skirt. It´s all about balance. Sophie seems to favour long skirts, which is fine, but she sometimes (often?) ends up looking weighed down by her clothes.
Regarding Annalena Baerbock - I couldn´t agree more. Politically she´s a total and utter failure, and the fact that she ended up at the UN is quite telling. It´s like all failed politicians get recycled at supranational level - either the EU or the UN. I cringe when I see her.

And I couldn't agree less. Annalena Baerbock worked well as Foreign Minister – one of the few in Germany's last Cabinet who I haven't been constantly ashamed of – and now she works well in the UN. Even so, I thought this was a fashion forum, so let's circle back to that. On Sophie – I like both dress and blazer. The blazer's velvet texture adds to the appeal of the outfit. I think she would have profited though from wearing it with boots with a higher heel like the model in the picture did. Either that or having hemmed he skirt at mid-calf. In general I. do agree that the long skirts she wears often make her appear more matronly, which is a bit of a shame, as a mid-calf hemline would often go a long way to making her look more youthful. On this occasion I would have preferred, had she worn her hair up instead of this half up half down situation. But overall, it was a good look. The colour definitely suited her. I like Ms Baerbock's dress, the slight assymetry and knot at the waist line is well aligned with her figure. So is the the mid-calf hemline of the dress. Both women look professional and well dressed for the occasion.

  8. Très belle dans cette association Bordeaux mais avec sa jupe légèrement plus courte, son allure serait bien mieux !

Love the dress and is meant to be worn on its own. The blazer makes it frumpy as do the tan stockings, which breaks up the column of burgundy almost at the floor, which makes the outfit feel stuck to the ground.

The Gucci shoes are supposed to be worn with shorter skirts. The same shoes with lower heels were worn with mini skirts during the 60s and early 70s.

  11. She looks beautiful, but I'm not sure this length is right for her. I like longer skirts/dresses, but even this is a bit too long for me! The jacket, lovely but not sure it blends well with the dress, something, not quite right, cannot put my finger on it. It doesn't suit the dress. Regardless the color is divine, beautiful rich color and suits her beautifully. The dress itself is stunning.

She prefers longer skirts, however I think I would like to see a shorter jacket. Seems to me it would balance the look.

You are spot on! They say we should dress in thirds, not halves. So if you wear a long skirt (2/3) it needs a shorter top/jacket (1/3). The proportions on the Duchess are often split in halves because the skirts and tops/jackets are too long.

She looks really beautiful in this colour. I love that she’s worked out her own work uniform of soft longish dress and neat businessy jacket for these types of appointments. I do not appreciate all the people criticising her choice of hem length when it is her choice and preference for her own body and life!

Many interesting comments on Sophie’s outfit. I think the color is good for her, although I would have omitted the velvet jacket - it’s seems to heavy and long over this lovely and simple dress. And a shorter shirt on the dress would have focused more attention on the lovely and classic Gucci pumps. Pair those with a distinctive belt with similar hardware and it would have elevated her style a bit.

Starting off strong, the color is good, and flatters Sophie. The dress is as is always the case with her, 2-3 inches from draping the floor. The jacket is nice but it gives her a poor shape. I’ve come to realise that Sophie must have very fine hair, which can be a struggle to style. So having it off her face gives a professional look.

This is a very nice pairing this dress and great looking blazer. The lady shaking hands with Sofie wears a stunning dress.
