Among the works on display are notable pieces by renowned artists such as Sandro Botticelli, Titian, Tintoretto, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Lucas Cranach the Elder, and Quentin Matsys.

The exhibition offers a look at how the ideals of beauty and ugliness evolved between the end of the 15th century and the end of the 16th century—a pivotal period in the history of art. It shows how major artists from Italy and Northern Europe interpreted these concepts in their own way. The exhibition runs until 14 June 2026.

  1. The Queen looks beautiful. I love this dress, the cut, very streamlined and fits, well ! The fabric piece hanging down the side, I find unnecessary and not appealing to me. Love the color of her bag, a slightly darker shade than her shoes, clever choice. Love her earrings, these are very distinctive. The pearl drop at the bottom of the earring, love! Her makeup looks natural. Her hair looks lovely.

This is a very pretty dress, all the features that are good for Mathilde: the length is excellent, the dress is simple, no swishy wide skirt, there is no belt or overly defined waistline and that little piece of fabric is not bad at all, even though it sits on her hip, of all places, where she needs the least enhancement. Nice earrings, they go well with the very simple lines of the dress.

A very flattering silhouette and colour for Mathilde. Natan does some weird things especially with fabric draping - but this one works very well for Mathilde. As for her shoes, while elegant, I find them excessively high and cannot imagine the pain of walking with so little support for the body weight. I think her stunning legs would look just as well or better with heels substantially lower than those. It’s such an uneven and sexist thing that has gone on for so long that fashion promotes flat comfortable shoes for men and exceedingly narrow pointed heeled shoes for women.

Her shoes are gorgeous! Most women wear high heeled shoes because they know how much better it makes them look. Fashion has promoted flat shoes for several years now, yet the truly elegant like Queens Mathilde, Maxima and Mary as well the Princess of Wales still wear heels. ( poor Queen Letizia has had no option but to wear lower heels) Good to see the next generation like Princess Amalia and Elisabeth also choosing heels for formal events

21:02 Why Queen Mathilde should feel your same discomfort re.: high heels?

Great elements for the Queen all in one dress - interesting neckline, three quarters sleeves, waist definition, and perfect skirt length. Simple and gorgeous!

What prompts you here dear CH to mention that she is erudite? (learned)

Seems superfluous to explain why. Compare the cultural events she attends to those of other royals. It’s easy to see then.

Queen Mathilde looks elegant and chic in this dress with simple lines (other than the unnecessary dangling side tail. The taupe handbag and shoes really compliment the dress and lend some color to the outfit. The dress is an excellent choice for her silhouette.

The dress is lovely, though it could manage with out the unnecessary side drape. QM like most women her age their body shape changes. It’s strategic dressing to downplay some areas and highlight others. This side drape draws the eye to the midriff which is not needed. But as always QM brings grace and elegance to the dress.

Queen Mathilde's wore this dress for the first time in 2019 during an interview on her 20th wedding anniversary. In those days it was fashion to wear dresses with side drapes. Other royal ladies wore them too. Contrary to what is supposed her shoes and handbag have both the same beige color and are bought at Dior. The difference in color most of you are seeing is due to the lights in the museum. Since Queen Mathilde is wearing these shoes regularly they must be comfortable. If she had pain @ Anon. 21:02 she wouldn't wear them. Queen Mathilde is an intelligent lady she knows what she can do and cannot. Why it is always her who receives these comments about the shoes, while others like Princess Catherine, Queen Maxima, Princess Charlene, CP Victoria .....are wearing them too. Queen Mathilde's earrings are made by Belgian jeweler Christine Bekaert, specialized in modern artistic jewelry.

I agree that comments about heels are a bit strange, although they are made for other royals, not just Queen Mathilde. I wear high heels 10-12 hrs a day, 5 days a week and have no issues at all. I’m 52 and assume they may cause pain someday, but I love wearing heels and think they make almost every outfit better.

    1. Well said. I totally agree that they improve the look of most outfits. Without great care, low heels can make an outfit look frumpy. I am nearly twenty years older than you and I still wear my heels ( around 3” so not as high as Queen Mathilde!) for anything where I need to look smart so you should get a few more years yet! The photo of the Queen in silhouette is stunning.
