On March 21, 2026, Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène, accompanied by Princess Akiko of Mikasa, officially launched the event “Japan in Monaco” on the forecourt of the Grimaldi Forum. The program included an official ceremony featuring a demonstration of Japanese drums, a dance performance, and a Washi-Sakura workshop. For the occasion, Princess Charlène wore a floral midi dress by Zimmermann.
The year 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Monaco and Japan. Several events are being organized in the Principality and in Tokyo to celebrate the ties between the two countries. Beginning on Saturday, March 21, the forecourt of the Grimaldi Forum and the Japanese Garden will host activities under the theme “Japan in Monaco,” in the presence of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène.

Well, sorry, but I don't like this dress. I generally don't like these ridiculous small standing collars and buttoned dresses ... but apart from that, main thing could be that this soft-flowery style is simply not in Charlene's favour. She is one who shines so bright in the simplest of lines and contours. To tell the truth, I cannot imagine any of the royal ladies looking good in this dress, I just cannot pinpoint objective factors. I simply don't find anything that I like on this dress.
ReplyDeletePrincess Charlene looks much better than the model.
Deletei LOVE the dress, and this soft version of Charlene, i think she wanted something relective of Japanese culture, very beautiful!
DeleteI like Charlène's dress. It's different from her usual more classic and neutral style, but it suits her well. And it's a nod to Japan, very nice.
Deleteanon 08:41 I don´t see how a chinese collar is a nod to Japan.
DeleteI agree with 19:55 that this is not a good dress in general with buttons, collar and puff sleeves, and definitely not for Charlene.
This Zimmerman dress is a departure from her usual style, but I think she looks fantastic. The floral detail looks sophisticated, not farm girl, and the colors are beautiful on PC. Perfect for spring!
ReplyDeleteInteresting that P. Akiko is wearing suit in Monaco colour and P. Charlene is wearing the soft Japanese pastel colours. It is okay, a nice length and fits in well with the other formal outfits. Her shoes are nice. The young man sitting next to her should of polished his dusty shoes.
DeleteNice observation regarding the colour/style swapping. With the hairstyle and the theme taken into account, this rather unusually "soft" outfit works on Princess Charlene. The young man you are referring to is Louis Ducruet, Prince Albert's nephew.
DeleteI love this soft Spring look for Charlene at this event. It celebrates nature, which is important in much of Japanese art. The young man sitting next to Charlene is Louis Ducruet, son of Princess Stephanie, nephew of Albert.
ReplyDeleteIt's unusual to see Charlene in a dress that is cut in this style. The dress itself is fine (Mary or Mathilde has one that is quite similar, I think), just not used to seeing Charlene wear something like this. But good on her for doing so.

I love Charlene’s beautiful, flowered dress and gentle hairstyle. She seems to get lovelier all the time.
What a beautiful dress!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress!
ReplyDeleteCette robe est magnifique très printanière. Elle sied parfaitement à Charlène
ReplyDeleteFroufrou
D'accord avec vous
DeleteThe Zimmerman dress looks beautiful. I love the style, floral fabric color, style of this feminine dress. The skirt of the dress has nice swish. Her hair up style appears a French roll, looks lovely this suits her well. Princess Stephanie's son is in attendance and sitting next to Princess Charlene. The traditional garments, beautiful.

Paloma.

Deletenot the same!
DeleteNot the same but similar. Good observation Paloma. I remember disliking that blouse just as I dislike this dress. Too sweet, too puffy, on top of flowers - of course it is only me.
DeleteUne prestation très réussie !!! Quelle vision fantastique de l'Asie !!!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a pretty and feminine dress. It suits HSH. Not her usual go to designers, but I’m pleased she did. It suits her coloring and shape.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
A stunning and ethereal look by Charlene. Absolutely lovely! MR
ReplyDeleteI love this dress. It is so amazing. Charlene look so beautiful in it . One of her best choices ever
ReplyDelete@19.55 - I agree with your points. Zimmermann is not to my liking and in this instance the pattern (looks like hydrangeas) is overload, the heaviness of the bodice (too much material) would have benefitted from elbow length sleeves (imo), there is little definition and makes her upper body look very square. Nor do I see the nod to Japan as some have mentioned - perhaps if the print had been cherry blossom!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress, so feminine and giving a soft spring vibe. Love it ❤️
