King Philippe and Queen Mathilde Host the 2026 Spring Concert at the Royal Palace

On March 12, 2026, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium hosted the traditional spring concert at the Royal Palace in Brussels. King Philippe, Queen Mathilde, and Prince Laurent welcomed 475 guests to the annual spring concert, which this year focused on the theme of innovation. The musical program was performed by the Fratres Trio, an atypical ensemble that brings together saxophone, violin, and piano.

For this concert, the piano was complemented by an exceptional instrument: a luthéal, made available by the Musical Instruments Museum (MIM) in Brussels. The luthéal is a rare mechanism invented in 1919 by the Belgian organ builder Georges Cloetens. It enables a piano to produce various timbres reminiscent of the harpsichord, the harp, the lute, and the cimbalom. For the occasion, Queen Mathilde wore an embroidered tulle jumpsuit by Elie Saab.

I dislike this color and the proportions on her. Not sure if they'd work on anyone.

Absolutely love the top, not keen on the shape of the pants, but it fits her as well as the model. Colour is nice on her .

  6. I like this in theory: soft colours for spring, just the right amount of sparkle, and the perfect length covering most but not all of her shoes. But the result is still off. The bodice-to-trousers proportion makes Mathilde look like she´s only legs. The flared cut only aggravates that impression. The colour, while nice, is not ideal for Mathilde who needs stronger colours. (The dusty pink looks best on someone with a darker complexion.)
In these photos, the jumpsuit looks best in movement, probably because there, the wide leg doesn´t show as much. I therefore think that a straight leg had been a much better design. And I would have chosen a purse in a contrasting colour, ideally something similar to Philippe´s tie (which is a great match).
Philippe suit jacket though is way too tight.
Also, I really want to shorten those curtains so they don´t drag on the floor.

The way the curtains are designed is not unusual for big curtains in rooms with high ceilings. Before the rooms in the Royal Palace were decorated with old fashion curtains. Each time there is a concert or a state visit or other event in the salons (rooms) of the Royal Palace I discover details which are new. It is all part of the renovation works which took place on the outside as well as on the inside. Thermic glass has been placed in the window frames to save energy. The electricity has been modernised, the classic lamps has been replaced by led light where it was possible. It was especially King Philippe who decided to do these renovation works. Now the Royal Palace is white on the outside (the façades has been cleaned which took a lot of time). The heating installations have been renovated, etc...

I agree Vanessa, good and fair observations regarding the unflattering cut.

@00:31: "The dusty pink looks best on someone with a darker complexion" - it cannot be generalized like this. Best example is Charlene - fair complexion and she can wear the most blergh of all colours, beige/sand, like no one else. Mathilde is excellent in white (as almost all of the ladies we look at here).

  7. I don't normally like jumpsuits, but this one is the exception, she looks fabulous. Love the fit and design of this pantsuit. The pants of the jumpsuit, perfect. The top section, beautifully crafted, it looks effective, and adequate. The color is sublime. Love the color of her clutch. Her earrings are gorgeous, very good choice. Her up style hair is the perfect finishing touch, this worked in well with her neckline.

On my phone this color on Mathilde washes her out.
Also , I have never been a fan of flared pants.

"Washes her out": Frequently used phrase for looking pale, but you can be "washed out" with black or red clothing as well if you are not prepared for the photographs. Mathilde is well prepared with a bit of makeup, I don't notice any paleness or the like. Hair is fabulous and yes, we see that she is broader at the hip than at the shoulder, but against all expectations, she looks fab, broad hips and all. Exception: trousers could be less broad at the bottom.

At first I thought it was a remake of the pink jumpsuit (without the transparant cape) she wore last year at the final concert of the Queen Elisabeth music contest. When I looked it up I saw it was the same color and pant style but not identical. The top is different too, but both jumpsuits are by Elie Saab.
Anyway Queen Mathilde is looking perfect. The soft pînk colour is matching her skintone. I like her hair like this perfect for a gala evening. She is wearing the "Mathilde" earrings made of kunzite and diamonds by Jeweler Leysen in Brussels. She is a classic beautiful queen who is always trying to wear an up-to-date but chique fashion style.

  15. Several comments here above I don't share, mainly regarding proportions top/bottom and so-called paleness. To me it appears that the proportions on the model give a similar effect. I agree however that "trousers could be less broad at the bottom" as mentioned.

I agree with Vanessa, even about the window drapes. I think if she wore lower heels, the leggy look would be improved. That might be the only tweak necessary.

I want to love the jumpsuit with the beautiful detailing on the top, but it makes Mathilde - and even the model - look very short-waisted.
