King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark are undertaking a state visit to Australia from 14–19 March 2026. Governor of Western Australia Chris Dawson and Mrs Darrilyn Dawson welcomed King Frederik and Queen Mary at Government House in Perth. Afterwards, the King and Queen took part in a formal welcome at the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park.
Accompanied by senior Aṉangu, King Frederik and Queen Mary visited a lookout to experience the sunset over Uluṟu. Aṉangu are the Traditional Owners of Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, which has been inhabited for tens of thousands of years. Uluṟu is a massive sandstone formation rising 348 metres above the flat desert landscape, changing colour throughout the day and glowing red and orange at sunrise and sunset.

ReplyDeleteI genuinely like her style and her but I wish she had a less gigantic wardrobe. She is much less a repeater than other royals and each outfit, although beautiful, just makes me think "that's lovely, but couldn't she just re-wear some of the tens of similar pieces she already owns." Does it really affect the quality of her "job" if she does not appear in something new?

ReplyDeleteFor the welcoming by the Governor and his wife they could have dressed a bit more formal. Afterwards they could have change their clothes into the more relaxed style they are wearing here. Well, maybe there was not enough time to change outfits and probably Mary knows the best how to manage this depending the circumstances since she is an Aussie herself.
ReplyDeleteShe is dressed perfectly for the Aussie weather. I am disappointed with the kings attire. He looks scruffy, and wears his clothing to tight. You can see he prefers a casual look, which is okay. I think he could have dressed up a bit to meet the governor, just out of respect for being invited to their country. He could take a lesson from his cousin King of Spain on how to do casual with class.

DeleteMary and Frederik are always well dressed and appropriate for the context. Here however I think they look uncomfortable in the reality of the day which for those who don’t understand the geography, involved a very very long trip, complete change of climate, an outback stop, with unusually unseasonal once in a lifetime rain and flooding, flies and heat. In trying to plan out clothes to wear for a certain event in a different continent and season is always hard, but this season around Alice Springs has surprised the locals too. So I can see what Mary might have imagined for this shirt and skirt and shoes, but it might not have been that comfortable in reality and we see that from the evolving shoes. Same goes for Frederik, a very long day to plan for and hard not to be uncomfortable in. Landing into Perth from an overnight set of international flights from winter into hot summer weather, meeting dignitaries, then switching planes for another long route into central Australia in probably a commercial airline doesn’t give a chance to change clothes, rest, etc.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you are saying, however I am sure arrangements could be made on the plane to appear more presentable. I like the is couple and appreciate how the king wants to be less stuffy, but respect for your hosts should be first.
