On Tuesday afternoon, 24 February 2026, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, together with Princess Amalia, received the Dutch medal winners of the Milan 2026 Olympic Winter Games at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague. Prime Minister Rob Jetten and Minister for Long-Term Care, Youth and Sport Mirjam Sterk also attended the ceremony.

The Games in Milan were historically successful for the Netherlands. With 10 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 3 bronze medals, TeamNL finished third in the medal standings, behind Norway and the United States. More than enough reason to celebrate the athletes in grand style. For the occasion, Princess Amalia wore a pink wool blazer suit by Max Mara.

Disappointing that Queen Maxima again seems to want all attention by wearing the loudest colour red from top to toe !! Today the athletes deserve to be the center of attention imo !!

18:23… I think you can look at this the other way around, the right way: when Maxima (or any of the other royals) is seen at a sporting event where they attend to support their country, they wear their country colours. Here again we see King, Queen and Princess celebrating their team by inviting them over (how special for them!), and both the team and the royals are in orange to celebrate. Looking at things as they are is much more lovely than assuming the worst.

    3. It is between red and orange ... but very very flashy color.

Duh! It’s an orangey red and she usually wears orange at sporting events as it’s the colour oftheNetherlands.

It's a shame that the athletes are so far behind the royals. The intention was to put them in the spotlight, and now Max is standing there, dressed in bright clothes, in the spotlight.

Huh?! They stand together on the front steps for a photo, with athletes and royals celebrating their wins together. No one is above the other, it’s a group photo!

Did you ever see QElizabeth in the back, she was always front and center in an outfit to make her stand out to be seen. Maxima is just fine

From where comes these critics ? In other countries when they receive the athletes who participated at the Olympics the king and queen always stand on the first row in a groups photo. The queens always wear one or more national colors in their outfit.

Queen Elizabeth is Queen, Maxima is the wife of the King.

Inderdaad, mee eens hoor, Max heeft graag de aandacht, prima hoor, maar het mag soms wel wat minder. De aanschaf van dit pak voegt verder totaal niets toe aan haar garderobe, raar rommelig ontwerp, maar ja…..

Maxima's in bright red, not orange, and of course, right in middle front, as usual.

She’s in orange - not red - the colour of her country - and of course she’s in the middle, she’s with her family there and they are King and Queen. I don’t understand your negativity nor your assumption that a King or Queen should shrink to be smaller?

It’s a Natan Couture Asymmetric Draped Blouse in orange. You may see it differently on your screen. You can see the three of them all celebrating by wearing shades of orange.

For your information: There was also an informal gathering inside which was very relaxed and fun. Both the King and Queen talked to all the athletes together with Princess Amalia.
En al dat gezeur. Ik snap al die negativiteit niet zo goed. Er is al genoeg gedoe in de wereld. En je dan druk maken omdat iemand in het midden van een foto staat?

I'm getting a bit fed up with it: always this playing on Maxima as a person. As another poster wrote, there's no GROUP PHOTO, with any royal family, where everyone isn't gathered around the royal family. And no, again, QM isn't perfect, but I get the feeling that the vast majority of the negative criticism is motivated by jealousy, because let's face it, QM is a very approachable person, not shy, always up for something, well-educated, well-integrated into Dutch society, daring in fashion (misses) and seems to have boundless energy...

Now back to what this blog is about: fashion. In my opinion, it's a super nice orange/red combination, with the neckline being particularly striking. PA is wearing a familiar combination, this time with a different top underneath. I have to say, I think her long hair looks best out of her face. On the one hand, the soft pink of the suit doesn't really match the orange of the athletes' clothing, but on the other hand, it's nice that everything hasn't been over-thought.

      You are exactly right,
      @ Anonymous 09:50!!
There was a time I enjoyed commenting on Queen Maxima and the Dutch Royal Family but no more now as the criticism on this wonderful Queen has become a sort of negativity loop some people seem to get stuck in.
And let's face it: Maxima is a most attractive lady, statuesque, with a perfect figure as well as a brilliant, bubbly personality
I see she is targeted as a person, not because of her clothes in the strict sense of the word.
This is getting increasingly clear and disgusting to my eyes.
That's why I gave up commenting on her, though she still tops my list of best royal ladies on this platform.
She may fail fashionwise sometimes but this is no good reason to tear her down as a woman.
Yes, I do agree: the vast majority of negative criticism is motivated by jealousy and this happens rather frequently in real life too, alas, whenever a stunning woman shows up, irrispective of her status, be it a royal lady or an ordinary woman.
Jealousy may become one of the worst trigger and a destructive weapon in the hands of less gifted , insecure women.
My comment here is just an exception meant to support the thoughtful, reasonable remarks from @ Anonymous 09:50
      (kudos to you!!).

Bravo to this. No-one is perfect but I really enjoy seeing QMs fashion choices and her enthusiasm. I don't find her trying to hog any spotlight here, in fact saw a small piece of video where she tried to get WA to stand in the middle but he stays where he is. She looks fine here.
Can't win! Perhaps a number of the anonymous comments above are by the same 'anonymous'?
Anyhow, Amalia is lovely however I find the trousers a little too wide and not quite the right length (too short) for the footwear.
The King could do with a new suit jacket - this one gathers strangely at the button.
      Well done to the athletes.

Thank you for your kind response to my post earlier today, 'P. the original'.

I would encourage you thoug to continue responding to posts about QM, as always, in a constructive tone. By not responding, you are giving in to "bullies," and that benefits no one. Let's all be open to positive and less positive opinions, as long as they are expressed respectfully. We have no choice but to accept that tastes and perceptions differ. However, all with an opinion want to be treated with respect and should treat those with a different one accordingly.

On the internet there is a short film showing that the athletes come for the group photo and that Maxima is put in the centre by someone else. She stood in front the king and princess Amalia. She did a step back by herself. So not everything looks like it is. I think Maxima knows very good what her position is. The athletes were very happy that they got the support of the royal family in Italy and that they were invited by the royal family. In Italy one of the athletes told the king that he likes fries so during the gathering the king specially served fries with mayo for them. And fashionwise I think they did a good job. It can be your taste or not. But if everyone is wearing the same it would be a boring world.

It does not matter if Maxima has a `bubbly personality`, which, unless one has personal knowledge would not know as all most of us see is what is shown for the camera, it does not change my opinion that what she is wearing is awful. It would not matter if it was in any other colour, the cut of the blouse is a messy puzzle, the belt too thin and certainly would not flatter any figure, I cannot discern the material but it is rather shiny which does not help the overall presentation, imo. P. Amalia could have followed her mother`s example and worn orange somewhere, and I think her choice of a formal suit is inappropriate for what appears to be a somewhat informal gathering.

The queen looks okay, I am not a fan of how the top opens at the bottom and I feel the belt is too thin. Colour is good in her she wear bold colours well. It seems to be meant as a causal informal outfit, just not to my liking. PA looks lovely, I am not keen on the wide leg pants, but she can wear them with her height.
