On January 29, 2026, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain attended the funeral Mass in memory of the 45 people who lost their lives in the railway accident in Adamuz (Córdoba), held at the Carolina Marín Sports Palace in Huelva. Upon their arrival, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia were welcomed by the Bishop of Huelva, Santiago Gómez Sierra, and the Vicar General, Emilio Rodríguez. The Mass was officiated by the Diocese of Huelva.
The incident occurred near Córdoba, where a high-speed train derailed and subsequently collided with another train. Officials have described it as Spain’s worst rail disaster since 2013 and one of the most serious in Europe in recent years. Spain has Europe’s most extensive high-speed rail network, and accidents resulting in loss of life are rare.
