Queen Sofía of Spain celebrates her 87th birthday on November 2. Sofía was born on November 2, 1938, in Psychiko, Greece, as the first child of King Paul I of Greece and Queen Frederica of Greece. Former Queen Sofía served as Queen of Spain from 1975 to 2014 during the reign of her husband, King Juan Carlos I.
King Felipe VI plans to officially honor Queen Sofía in 2025 with the Order of the Golden Fleece (Insigne Orden del Toisón de Oro) as a token of gratitude for her lifelong dedication and service to the Spanish Crown. The ceremony will take place as part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the monarchy and democracy in Spain. On November 22, Spain will commemorate 50 years of monarchy.
