King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden attended the Belém Climate Summit, held on November 6–7 ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will take place from November 10 to 21. On November 7, 2025, the King and Queen took part in the Leaders’ Summit held in preparation for COP30. During the summit, leaders from 43 countries and the European Union signed the Belém Declaration on Hunger, Poverty, and People-Centered Climate Action.

I don't remember having seen these two smiling directly at each other, and I am sure I have not seen them holding - no, even touching each other's hand. The King looks very often rather grumpy, save when he is at a vintage cars meeting. And here they are, looking at each other while broadly smiling at each other, Silvia even touching him and this happens non-accidentally. I am fully surprised at this public show of affection after so many years having seen not the tiniest speckle of it. - The Queen looks really magnificent, her wide trousers quite the latest fashion and her blouse is pure perfection.
ReplyDeleteBoy, I wonder what the giggling was all about! I don't remember ever seeing such fun interaction with the Swedish royal couple. Queen Silvia looks just gorgeous with the very pretty floral house. I like the sleeve length and v-neck on it for such summery weather. Her white slacks fit very well, hang neatly and almost look like a long skirt. Now that I look more closely, I see that several people are holding hands. Perhaps the Islamic tradition frowns on that, so some of the women did not participate.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think it’s about Islamic tradition; this is a very international meeting. But rather in some countries holding hands with friends (rather than lovers or one’s children) and being much closer (that I might consider “in my personal space”) is normal and in others it’s not. Silvia held hands, the King stepped back; I think this might be the giggle.
-Astrid.
Lovely to see the second last picture with the Royal couple and the President of Finland. Yes, we are good and close friends and neighbours. (SaF)
