Lovely colour, almost sea foam for an aquatic event. Perfect suit however the skirt a tad shorter would be nice too.

I see your point, but once you get used to the imperial style and realize it is not possible, you discover a certain unexplainable beauty in the garments of the empress. The generous cut and length are intentional.

    2. I love what you’ve said about seeing the beauty in other fashion cultures. Of course we must see the fashion around the world in the context of their cultures and not ours! Many criticisms written here are from people looking only through their culture about people from other cultures and saying things such as “if only so and so would eg change their shoes, it would ELEVATE their look”… but that look is already excellent within that person’s culture. So I love what you’ve said here Virginia and I completely agree.

    3. At "Anon 23:28," yeah. At this point I think you have to sort of look at the imperial women's fashion as "costuming." You don't fully judge it as "fashion" but as the "cerimonial" costuming for the day/event. It is what it is - and all we're going to get. :-|

The shoes look new to me, an special touch. The tailoring is excellent. I think I have now understood that the skirts have to be comfortable and make the wearer dignified in every position, with no body contours showing, this is very visible when the empress walks, as on the photo.

Virginia, I think the Japanese royal ladies don’t wear skirt suits but dress and jacket. The dresses are cut to fit well and elegantly and not too tight without the jacket , and putting the jacket over that style of dress can pucker the dress a little. All very elegant and I love her shoes too.

How do you explain the fact that Princess Kako manages to dress differently than the Empress and Princess Aiko. (Kako's mother dresses better too, but not yet like her daughter). Princess Kako's outfits are more elegant and have a better tailoring. Her hairstyle is better. Her shoes are sometimes very up-to-date. She also dares to wear other colours like red or orange occassionally. When the complete Imperial Court is pictured here, I see a lot of Princesses whose dresses are looking better than the Empress' and Aiko's. Have they more freedom ? Does the Imperial family has to follow rules the other royal ladies doesn't have to follow ?

As elegant she was in her pant suit as bad is the cut and the length of her light blue skirt. It is not the first time I see that one of her feet is swollen (last pic.). The shoes she is wearing are not confortable enough for her sensible feet.

  7. Ce nouveau tailleur est d’une belle couleur bleu pastel dont la veste croisée a un liseré plus soutenu qui peut se voir dans le bout de ses chaussures !

  10. The Empress must have worn a suit in a color appropriate for the maritime event!
It was a meaningful color. Wonderful!
By the way, I can see a bit of the pleats(?) at the back of her skirt, I wonder what kind of design it is.

  11. Dignified, classy, exquisite tailoring, doesnt mean a thing. The beautiful smiles on their faces brings into focus the true meaning of life. Happiness comes from within, not a style, or jewels, nor money, but true inner peace.

And you can read their thoughts behind their beautiful smiles ? I hope for them they have peace with the fact their daughter cannot become Empress when the Emperor will be too old.
