The performance featured the ancient Japanese dance Kume-mai and continental-style bugaku dances. Gagaku is a form of Japanese classical music that has been performed at the imperial court since the Heian period (794–1185). It was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property by the Japanese government in 1955.
