On October 23, 2025, Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and their daughter, Princess Aiko, visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Memorial Hall (Ireido) in Yokoamicho Park, Sumida. The Imperial Family laid flowers in remembrance of the victims of the Pacific War, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the war. The Tokyo Ireido serves as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 as well as in the Great Tokyo Air Raid.

I'm sorry but, all this matchy- matchy, bowler hats, bland jewels looks stupid! Let the individual decide and dress themselves.
ReplyDeleteYES
DeleteI agree. To me they look like airline stewardesses (not flight attendants, *stewardesses*) from the 1950s. And I also have to say, I think the usual high quality of tailoring is missing here. The hemlines are not crisp and the fit is off especially around the shoulders and down the sleeves. I actually think Aiko's suit might be some one else's (a "hand me down") that was given a rush alteration job. This might be my "worst dress" for them for 2025.
DeleteI understand your comments but as others have said many times there are huge restrictions on what can be worn.
DeleteHey 17:15, you’re looking here not at American or European fashion, but Japanese traditions. It’s not fair to say it’s stupid; it’s something for us to learn about. It’s a culture where respect and tradition are exceedingly important. This was a remembrance ceremony, solemn, respectful, serene.
DeleteHave you read the background details regarding the event? Your remarks are disrespectful and ignorant. 🌞Virginia
DeletePrincess Aiko suits this hat. I like the added detail at the back of her jacket and the cut. I would like to see a different style shoe, these make their feet look big, although they are most likely very comfortable.
ReplyDeleteYou are sooooo right about the shoes. It doesn't matter who you are, the wrong style of a white shoe will ALWAYS make your feet look bigger. I'm also a strong believer in changing the color pallet with the season. We're firmly into fall in the northern hemisphere. It's time-out for the white shoes!
DeleteSuch an ill fitting suit on Princess Aiko.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely true. Why as a young lady wearing the kind of same suit as your mother. Awful
DeleteIt’s a jacket over a dress. The dress is cut well but not tightly, so with the jacket it looks perhaps less well fitted than a skirt would.
DeleteI do wish there was some slightly younger edge to Aiko's clothes. Her clothes are interchangeable with all the other royal women. I still imagine a communal closet with these suits in varying sizes and colors that they choose from.
ReplyDeleteBelle couleur bleu pastel ; j’aime bien la patte/martingale de la veste structurée de Aiko !
ReplyDeleteHM looks as lovely as ever. I do wish Princess Aiko dressed a little more age appropriate. We’ve seen her cousin only recently wearing some charming and flattering age appropriate choices.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
They have a female head of government now, Sanae Takaichi. So Aiko can become empress!
ReplyDeleteI hope we get a comment here from our Japanese colleague to help us understand the event and choice of outfit. Someone above has written its “stupid” but I find that to be a very uneducated opinion that has forgotten that across the world there are so many different cultures and fashions. We can’t judge others far away based on what’s normal in America!
ReplyDeleteThe person who wrote the 'stupid comment', is uneducated about Japanese traditions. Even though Westerners view the women dressing in the same type of outfit, year after year, they have a reason to do so. Instead focus on the beauty of each garment, the fabric, the sublime pearls and other precious gems that are worn.

I agree. "Stupid" was an unfortunate comment. While their sartorial choices are now synonymous with the Japan's Imperial family, they are western in design. They haven't modernized their wardrobes with the times. I suppose they consider it their tradition at this point. It would be nice to see them evolve a little, if only for the younger women.
Lorraine (Rose).
ReplyDeleteannoncé.
ReplyDeleteGee, and here I was thinking how lovely both mother and daughter look in their beautiful powder blue suits! 🤷🏻 Nothing wrong afaic.
ReplyDeleteLovely look for the Empress and Pss,

I respect and understand there traditions. Both ladies look great, the soft powder blue suits, glorious color and good accessories. Love the pearl necklaces, lovely addition.
ReplyDeleteIt may have been that someone could have been rummaging through Mother's closet and hatboxes? I don't mind that... and it might explain the fit issues (as others duly note, the matchy shoes seem a bit much). Delighted to see the family out and about! ~J
ReplyDelete写真では水色に見えますけれど、本当は薄い灰色です。
ReplyDeleteこの日集まった遺族や関係者は、皇后陛下と愛子さまの服装に異論はないと思います。
それが一番大切なことです。
