On Thursday evening, October 16, 2025, Queen Máxima opened the 25th edition of Dutch Design Week (DDW) in Eindhoven. With the theme “Past. Present. Possible.”, DDW celebrates a quarter century of shaping the future. Over the years, it has evolved into a leading international event where, over nine days each year, design is presented in all its diversity.
DDW showcases the work and concepts of around 2,000 designers to approximately 350,000 visitors across 100 locations throughout the city, featuring exhibitions, lectures, debates, networking events, and presentations. Prior to the Grand Opening, Queen Máxima visited the exhibition “Bridging Minds – 100x Design for Change” at the Van Abbemuseum.
Claes Iversen coat
This is "design" in the widest sense of the word. I am not competent to give an opinion.
ReplyDeleteMaxima has this smile on her face saying 'this is me' unapologetic. So for that am happy for her
DeleteShe looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeletePrinsjesdag 2023. This is when Queen Maxima wore this outfit by Claes Iversen for the first time. The flowers on the coat are handpainted. I think the outfit is appropriate to open the Dutch designweek. I like the colors. The jumpsuit in salmon pink is beautiful. The coat is rather special, something one can wear once or twice.
ReplyDeleteI love this time of year when royals are so busy and we get pictures daily!
ReplyDeleteNow about this outfit... Maxima's hair is looking great! I would never wear her coat...but I'm not a queen and I don't have her height or her charisma. Good for her for wearing what she likes.

Manteau pas du tout à mon goût !
ReplyDeleteNéanmoins, sa tenue -qui semble être une combinaison pantalon- est d’une belle couleur. J’aurais aimé mieux la voir.
-Astrid.
Maxima reigns in her happy place. Could have been a designer in her former life, one who moves trends.
ReplyDeletems.
You donot have to wear a ridiculous coat to open the Dutch design week,, and by the way, Claes Iversen is a Dane.
ReplyDelete.. so she didn’t. She wore a fun one that fits the idea of “design” that she enjoys.
DeleteWho lives and works in The Netherlands since a long time. Besides I have a 2 or 3 outfits by Danish designers and I am very happy I have them. They fit and are of good quality and are still fashionable after 2 years.
DeleteHe has lived and worked in the Netherlands since he was 20 years old. "He studied at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. In 2008 Iversen obtained his master’s degree at ArtEZ School of Arts in Arnhem."

This outfit is a bit hard on my eyes.
ReplyDeleteCate.
Agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Delete@17:32, so many exclamation marks are very hard on *my* eyes. So give your readers a bit more respect (and a break :-).
DeleteEen beddensprei.
ReplyDeleteDésolée, je n'arrive pas à trouver de l'élégance dans ce manteau porté sur cette combinaison !
ReplyDeleteWell, Maxima being Maxima, and she being able to wear bold, edgy, things in a way few others can, I love this outfit. It's actually just an interesting coat with a plain straightforward jumpsuit underneath. The scalloped edges give it character, and Maxima simply adds to it with her personality, making it work. I'm glad that she went with the pink lining, instead of the green as on the model. Best of all, it is the correct outfit for the design/arts event that she is attending. Her hair looks good too.

@Anon 9:13, I agree with every word. She looks smashing!

DeleteI always ❤️ to read your comments, you write sooo well👏
@Zucchina and Anon 09:22 Very kind of you both. Thank you.

I didn’t like this coat and salmon outfit the first time Maxima wore it and I still dislike it two years later. Too carnavalesque for a queen in my opinion !!

ReplyDeleteQM looks spectacular. I love the whole outfit. She has a sophisticated eye for colour and the coat also fits her so well. Her hair is looking nice here too, but the best part of all, as always, is her beautiful smile.
ReplyDeleteThere are some great positive comments here which see the fun and the art in the jacket. I probably wouldn’t wear it… but were I there, and seeing it, would wish I too had the confidence to wear something so artistic.
ReplyDeleteI like the first picture showing her walking and the coat moving which has something majestic about it. In the other photos, I like the coat less. It is interesting, for sure, and this is a design event, so why not, but the coat is way too long for day time use, and it is a bold design and a lot of it. I like the pink colour and it coordinates really well with her outfit underneath (which looks lovely), but the brown and yellow are harder to warm up to, and overall, the coat looks a bit as if she´s wrapped in a blanket she´s had since the 70s when those colours and bold designs were in fashion. I assume she chose the pink lining instead of the green which is at least one less jarring colour.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wonder why some of you are here. You know so little about fashion, yet have no qualms about making definitive statements about what you see. Design Week is the exact time Maxima, and anyone else that is attending, should be wearing the most fashion forward designs. Clothing is a necessity, fashion is an art form. If you don't understand the artistic side, try to learn about it. Disparaging remarks don't add to the conversation. Of course most, if not all of us would not or could not wear this coat. The question is always if the clothing is well suited to the wearer and the event. In this case, absolutely! The color and fit suit her and the coat needs a big personality to carry it off. This is a win all the way around.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteI couldn't agree more with you, anonyous 17:03! In this case the queen is dressed fashion forward, totally dressed for the occasion and she looks smashing.
DeleteYep, it's so true!
DeleteThe big question is why some of the commenters are on a fashion blog!
I too absolutely agree.
DeleteWhile this “ Sometimes I wonder why some of you are here. You know so little about fashion” may be true for some, it’s probably unfair to many. In an open blog as this you really don’t know how many eyes come here nor what they see. Yes there are sone stupid comments pretty much on every post but a sweeping statement such “ you know so little about fashion” really looks down on other, who you really cannot know.
Delete@ Anon. 21:33
DeleteOne must not be a fashion specialist to understand what some commenters are trying to tell. You cannot expect (relatively) young queens and the new generation of CP's wear outfits that are so classic that it is something their mothers and grandmothers wore. Younger people are experimenting with clothes they like, sometimes it turnes out to be very beautiful, sometimes it doesn't suit them, or that is what we think. If they are looking in the mirror and they are satisfied with what they see, it should be O.K. for us too. Fashion is not only clothes that are made to wear but also a bit of an artistic process. What young people can wear would be ridiculous for a lady in her 70s, which does not mean that women in their 70s cannot wear fashionable things when they are adapted to their morphology and taste. Colors are very important in fashion but even more important if one is not young anymore.
Only Máxima can get away with this outfit. She carries it well
ReplyDeleteThis is full harmony between 1. the occasion (design) 2. the coat (daring unique design) and 3. Máxima's extroverted exuberance. Very well done - this garment is perfect for occasions like this and she looks marvellous. - To wear it would be ridiculous if she was to open a new gas pipeline or a cancer station. But she does not do any such thing here.
ReplyDeleteAgree, faboulos outfit for this occasion. Not on everyone can this coat look great - Maxima has personality to carry it off.
DeleteShe is so beautiful in that first picture. Like the outfit or not, she is stunning un it
ReplyDeleteGosh No. I can't get excited about this coat. This is a stretch even for beautiful Maxima.
ReplyDeleteOn movement the coat moves beautifully. The salmon colored outfit works in well. She has the flair to wear this perfectly. Not everyone could wear this but Maxima does and can!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least no one is complaining about her hair, such a relief.
ReplyDeleteI think she looks absolutely fabulous.
Lisa
I, myself, could never wear anything like this artfully designed and executed creation. In fact, I can’t think of many other royals who would enjoy wearing this coat. However, we’re talking about Máxima! And Máxima knows when to do, and when to overdo.
ReplyDeleteHorror!!
ReplyDeleteHalloween is still half a month away, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteWow, how about spot on for this occasion?
ReplyDeletecss
Just........awful....both times and everytime.
ReplyDeleteThere is probably only one person on the entire planet who can pull this off and it's HMQM.
