On October 26, 2025, Princess Kako of Japan visited the Ceramic Cultural Park in Kōka City, a region renowned for its Shigaraki ware pottery. Together with local elementary school students, the Princess painted Shigaraki ware tanuki (raccoon dog) figurines. For the occasion, the Princess wore an Art Deco print long-sleeve maxi dress by Grace Continental.

  1. She looks very modern these days, very lovely dress. Now the shoes need an upgrade too.

    1. Yes these shoes. All the female Japanese royals have the same boring old fashioned shoes. They must be very comfortable haha but not elegant at all

    2. The dress is very lovely for her. Colours of the sea. Why does she need to upgrade her shoes?

    3. One can easily see which commenters have traveled the world and which have not. Or which commenters have read about other cultures, perhaps at school.
If you don't know other cultures and customes, you only compare them to yourself and your own little circle.
But it's a bit confusing that everyone here admires for ex. the royal family of Bhutan and their colorful clothes, their culture. It's not very different from the japanese, but perhaps they look more like a fairy tale and of course I admire them too.

Japan is NOT a western country and I respect their culture and clothing and here princess Kako looks gorgeous, also with her shoes.

    4. The shoe pattern the Japanese royal ladies all use reminds me of the shoes in the Minnie Mouse cartoons, same similar style in different colours.

    5. Bravo, Zucchina!

    6. Thanks @Coralie 😊. Perhaps it was a little bit harsh, but that's how I think.

    7. Very true Zucchina, and so well said. - Big Yes to multiculturalism, but then, "our way is better" anyway. So much self-centred narrow-mindedness.

  2. Always so vivacious and joyfull!
Can anyone tell me what is her position in the Japanese imperial court?
We see much more of her than of other princesses.

    1. Princess Kako is one of the two daughters of the Crown Prince and Crown Princess, and the nice of the Emperor. Her sister is married and like all Imperial Princesses who "marry out" is no longer a princess or member of the Imperial Family.

    2. She's the daughter of the Crown Prince. Shes the highest ranking lady behind Masko, Aiko, her mum. We see her more on this site but the other princesses Yoko and Akiko work too but they don't get as much attention as Kako because shes the most fashionable royal lady in Japan at the moment.

    3. That's right. We see her much more than the daughter of the emperor. Maybe because the brother of princess kako is the crownprince ?Women cannot be emperor in Japan which is quite strange in the 21 century

    5. Hello 19:21! Japan is a very traditional country. I would say it’s not strange that they don’t have women ruling, but rather, they are simply not there - yet. Holding onto traditions has many good things about it, even if from looking in from the outside it feels different from your society.

  4. Great colours in the dress, I think I would have like to see the bow at the waist like the model. It’s the shoes that make it look matronly. Hair always looks tidy.

    1. She’s a darling! I think her shoes fit in very well with Japanese fashion, so she doesn’t look matronly in her country.

  5. Look parfait dans le choix de ce modèle imprimé très coloré ainsi que les chaussures que je vois bleu-marine ; vraiment adorable avec son sourire radieux !

  7. Kako looks stunning in this wonderful, colorful dress. The psychedelic pattern of the fabric is exquisite as the blue and green look great against each other. I love the use of a different fabric for the hem. It's a fun outfit but still dignified.

  8. Je pense que ce n’est pas encore qu’il va y avoir de la féminisation à la tête de la cour impériale par rapport à celle récente du gouvernement japonais !

  10. She is such a dainty young woman. Now get the shoes in an elegant style to match her dress and it would be so much nicer. Not grandma’s shoes.
