  3. The flower piece in her hair is going along nicely with the dress. She truly is the fashion icon of the Japanese Imperial Family.

  4. Great dress with interesting waist details and fabric. I think she styled it better than the model with the mid-brown belt, clutch and shoes and I also love the flowers in her hair. Even through photos, she exudes such a lovely energy!

  5. I usually don't like belts added to dresses because more often than not they look like the random accessory that they are. This belt looks perfect with the dress. I thought it came with the dress. I also think it does enhance the design. It was well chosen in width and color.

  8. Princess Kako is becoming one of my favorite royals when it comes to style. This dress is subdued but superb in it's fabric, fit and design. The peplum adds character to what would have been a boring dress and the thin belt was a smart choice as it is subtle and doesn't cut her in half, The brown accessories and the one in in hair are perfect against the beige tweed.

  9. So lovely and stylish! Again, Kako is working hard to add fashionable flair within the constraints of the court's rules. Love she added the belt and I really like her color choice for her accessories.

  11. She is one of those very few who bring me smiling at her photo on the screen (how silly). Always chic, neat and tidy, her whole demeanour charming. I am a fan of peplum if suitable for the body type. The tweed pattern is especially lovely. Not too much, gives the fabric just good structure and a subtle pattern.

Paloma.

  15. Really, really cute outfit & perfect accessories. I want to see Monaco’s Princess Alexandra in something by this designer; Kako’s suit would look wonderful on her too.

  17. Beautiful outfit. Lovely hair style. I prefer the dress on the model without the belt. Japanese people are shorter in general, the belt is cutting her in half.

    1. @ 07:24, Everybody is cut in half by a belt, but it disturbs only if the proportions are not favourable for that - good example is Queen Mathilde, very tall with short upper body, so belts are not good for her and the broader the worse.

    2. @ 12:34
I was not talking about ladies who are high waisted. Also short women can be high waisted.
I was talking about short women wearing a belt. I think the model is taller than the princess or she is wearing higher heels and even she is wearing no belt. I prefer the dress worn without a belt.
A taller person doesn't look shorter when she is wearing a belt thin or broader. A short person when she is wearing a belt looks even shorter.
These are not my words but the words of more than one designer. But I have to admit they are right. You give the example of Queen Mathilde. It is true that Queen Mathilde is not looking good with broader belts. When she wears thinner belts it is better. But that doesn't make her look shorter than she is. A good designer can make the proportions work. It has nothing to do with a belt or no belt.

    3. 14:38 I’d say different belts suit different people and different outfits. No fixed rules. In this case I think she improved the dress with the perfect belt and coordinated accessories. She’s very sweet!

  18. Just lovely. She’s always just lovely. The length and fitting of the dress is lovely on her, and the style suits her really well. I do love camel brown accessories and here they bring the whole outfit together so well.

  20. Sorry, I don´t understand all the positive reactions here above. For a woman of her age this is totally old fashioned. If my daughter should wear this, I would ask if she has shopped in the closet of her grandma. And even in her closet there is much more modern dresses than this one. Sorry!!!

    1. I donot think your daughter is of the Japanese court?
Cultural difference couldn’t be greater and within the boundaries princess Kako finds a possibility for a more “ western” style dress: bravo! I think she is a jewel! Very elegant and always a ray of sunshine.

    2. You forget that Kako does not have a lot of choice in what she wears. The simple fact that she has started wearing clothes that are designed for the public instead of the cookie-cutter designs that the rest of the women in the Imperial family wear is a huge step forward.

    3. @14:45 - it’s important to realise that the world has 8+ billion humans and as many different tastes! We simply cannot say “a woman of this age” should dress in one way. She doesn’t have to be more western when she’s not! Instead, we can look and learn about her culture and preferences through her fashion choices.

  21. I love princess Kako’s face. Her smile is so endearing and not at all artificial and affected ike some other royals. (Daisy?)
