The main exhibition of the festival, titled “Light and Shadow: Goya and Spanish Realism,” will be open from October 8, 2025, to January 11, 2026.

I see Mathilde may have chosen red as a colour of the Spanish flag; and Letizia looking just lovely. Looking forward to their joint photos during the visit.

The V-neckline makes Mathilde's upper body seem even thinner than it already is, and the wide skirt makes her wider from the waist down than she actually is.
Wide skirts are not good on her, but if, than more volume on the upper part of the dress would balance it somehow better. But leaving the wide skirts for others would be the simplest and most favourable solution. The dress itself is nice, but not for her. Letizia is pretty, being slim, she has an easy play. But as a whole, I am rather underwhelmed from this Armani dress.

- Dorothe -

Never heard of diplomatic dressing ? Queen Mathilde is wairing a red dress because red is one the colours of the Spanish flag. When a foreign nation is visiting Belgium, she usually wears something in one of the colours of that nation.

Each 2 years Belgium is organizing an Exhibition called "Europalia". This year it is "Europalia Espania 2025". After arriving at the Royal Palace in Brussels where the signing of the Golden Book and a lunch took place, they went to the "Salon Goya" also in the Royal Palace where 3 wall covers are exposed by Francisco Goya. It was a present by Queen Isabella II of Spain to King Leopold I of the Belgians.
Both queens wore lovely dresses. Queen Mathilde's hair was in a beautiful updo. She wore a handbag by Christian Dior. Queen Letizia wore also a beautiful pleated dress by Giorgio Armani. Lucky she wore the shorter version of the dress.

I wonder if Letizia had the hem of the dress cut to fit her height?

  6. I´m smiling at the handshake of Felipe and Mathilde :-)
Everyone looking neat and polished of course, but I don´t really like the ladies´ dresses. Mathilde´s red number is making her hips look huge, and the proportions are rather unflattering. Letizia´s dress looks like cheap polyester. I have no idea what material it is, I´m just saying which impression I get. I like that she chose burgundy shoes + purse but that still doesn´t quite bring this outfit to life.

The handshake is lovely! Letizia is in pure silk; probably the photos / light making you think it looks polyester whereas in real life it would have been seen as what it is, silk.

Armani dresses are not by polyester, also a piece of Armani looks cheap..🤔. Nowadays people say what they think, but somehow It has become in saying the first nonsense in my brain..(when there is one..)

it was not a handshake, he kissed her hand as knights used to do back in the day

    4. Is looking cheap, a fashion criteria ? Especially when it is based on a picture, seeing the real thing may give a different impression.

If you saw the video on You Tube you would know that the handshake came just before a warm embrace ! Lately I always look at the video's on You Tube because all the comments one can read on this blog are completely different when you see the moving images of the kings and queens and princesses and their clothes.

@Vanessa, "handshake": that gesture is simply the fluid continuation of the handkiss gesture immediately before. Cf. https://www.instagram.com/p/DPgejGJjTQn/

    8. Aquí la Venesita sentando cátedra. LOL.

Mathilde looks good, but the winner for me is Letizia. The Armani dress looks sharp, I'm really happy to see that she went with the shorter length, and her burgundy accessories are spot on.

Both Queen Mathilde and Queen Letizia look beautiful. Love that Mathilde chose to wear red--an honor to her Spanish guests and represents Belgium as well. I also love the accessory colors chosen by each lady--Letizia chose to wear burgundy to bring out the floral pattern of her dress while Mathilde chose neutrals to highlight her red coat dress.

Marie.

  16. The red dress from the bodice up is splendid, from the waist down, it adds volume to her when none is there. Regardless she looks lovely. Queen Letizia looks beautiful in this silk ensemble. I love the color of her accessories.

    1. Agree. Both queens look great but the wide flared is not the most flattering for Queen Mathilde. Queen Letizia’s dress is a great length and very elegant but just a little dull

I disagree, Letizia‘s hair is not out of control, in fact it looks very tamed and healthy, but it is boring and it does her no favour and accentuates her age. Something more flattering, whatever, would soften her features and give her more appeal, I am not a hairstylist but I feel what I see.

Red is a good color on QM. The style is also flattering.
QL - Not a fan of her choice. It’s a rare miss for her,I usually love her style.

Overall, everyone looks beautiful and happy. QM can wear the h*ll out of this shade of red Cudos for that!! This has to be Natan because the fit is off, otherwise I'd love it. The top needs to be more fitted and less volume in the skirt for her shape... more streamlined. QL is wearing a beautiful and well fitting dress. It's Armoni afterall! Love she chose red/burgundy shoes and bag. Diplomatic dressing! I can't see the jewelry which is sad also this isn't an official State Visit either so no tiaras, gala gowns or jewelry. The Kings both look handsome as well! ~Meishka~
