On October 30, 2025, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa attended the 2025 UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors Meeting, held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, at the invitation of Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO. The discussions were integral to shaping the future of UNESCO’s global impact. Princess Firyal of Jordan also attended the meeting.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa was appointed a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 1997 in recognition of her work promoting girls’ education, gender equality, women’s rights, and microfinance. In acknowledgment of her exemplary commitment, her mandate as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador has been extended until 2026.

I am sad to see Maria Theresa returning to her old style, swathing herself in voluminous clothing - especially the ultra-wide jacket which makes her look wider and shorter and heavier than she actually is. And the scarf only magnifies the effect.
ReplyDeleteI much prefer the look created when she wears sleeker styles which don't exaggerate her shoulders, and which skim the body. Maria Theresa has worn quite a few garments in this classic style of late, and I hope she continues to add more of such flattering and elegant styles to her wardrobe. Lyra
Dear Lyra, I’m not sad to see it but happy for her. Who hoo, she’s taken a step back out of constant scrutiny and endless photos, and can wear what she likes to get on with what she wants to do. Freedom! And if these clothes work for her, hey great! More power to her, eh?
DeleteWhat is she wearing??
ReplyDeleteWhat is she wearing? Comfortable cosy clothes intended to seat for a day in a meeting and listen on a chilly day.
Delete@Anon 22:39 well now, what *is* she wearing? are you not in a position to being able to identify a loose-fitting jacket with a sweater under it and a big cosy shawl wrapped around? There you have it and spare us empty rhetoric.
DeleteI was not fond of this jacket when she has worn on previous occasions and even less now. It just swallows her up. Perhaps it is like a warm cozy blanket vibe for her.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, it is just too much of everything. She must like the effect of all the fabric and layered pieces, and may feel more secure covered up like this.
ReplyDeleteThe last photo, the lady to the right of the photo, looks fabulous. A deep dark green pantsuit, the black blouse and green handbag love this ensemble. She looks stylish, chic and elegant.
ReplyDeleteTout à fait d’accord avec vous -J’espère ne pas dire de bêtises mais je pense que c'est une princesse jordanienne mais laquelle ?!
DeleteWell when I saw the picture, the nice green suit of the lady was not able to keep my attention, sadly her face gives me the impression of missed aesthetic surgery.
DeleteIf so however, it does not change my opinion about it : freedom of choice, no criticism, but success is not guaranteed.
I have the same problem MaryT with a few women pictured here. I find it very distracting.
DeleteThe woman to the side, has way too much done to her face, it distracts for what she was wearing.
DeleteCompletely agree….the whole look is chic and fabulous!
Paloma.
ReplyDeleteI don't see how clothing that is very obviously made for to be worn loosely around the body makes anybody broader or shorter or whatever. Because it does not do anything like that. It is perfectly visible that it is clothing and not the body. Maria Therese could be equally well a slim person under those quite cosy nice woollen things covering her - or be what she is, a non-slim person. She is clearly not made looking broader, because loose-fitting and layered clothing is just that: loose fitting and layered and everyone can see that. Of course she is free to wear loose-fitting clothing, be it because she is quite corpulent, be it for comfort, be it both, without being criticised in such a nonsensical way.
ReplyDelete- I dream of a fashion blog where people stop talking about bodies instead of clothes. If thin Catherine Wales wears a wallowing long skirt, it "swallows her". And if non-thin Maria Theresa wears wallowing whatever, it makes her look broad ... so sad, what are we allowed to be and wear?
Thank you and well stated.
DeleteWhile I agree with you about wanting a fashion blog where bodies are not scrutinized, the purpose of fashion is to style the body. I think these are two separate issues. "Clothes" are a necessity to cover and protect our bodies from the elements, "fashion" is a form of expression and is able to transform a person with color and design. There is a place for both. We dress for comfort when we are at home or running an errand, and usually dress a little better when going to a public event and want to make a nice impression. Part of making a nice impression is dressing our bodies in clothes that flatter us. Because bodies come in all shapes and sizes, the most flattering styles will vary from person to person. There are ways to dress that accentuate our best features and disguise our trouble areas. We can appear taller, slimmer and healthier with the right choices. Just as the wrong color for the complexion can make the wearer look sallow and tired, the right colors can make the wearer appear vibrant and healthier. Clothes need to fit properly to show us at our best. Maria Teresa consistently wears clothes that are not cut for a petite frame making her appear wider and shorter. Her jackets are often too long in the arms and torso. She doesn't have them cut down for her height and they overwhelm her. She wears dresses and skirts far longer than they were designed to be worn, showing less leg, which gives her a squat appearance. Simply put, her clothes often look too big for her. You say that you "don't see how clothing that is very obviously made for to be worn loosely around the body makes anybody broader or shorter or whatever." I can't explain it if you can't see it for yourself. As a rule, a loose, unstructured piece needs a more tailored piece to give it balance. There is no hint of where she is under all these layers. If MT or anyone else wants to hide in their clothes, that is their choice. There are people that dress to hide their bodies, which is sad, but we have seen countless times just on this blog how a woman's body is discussed. Not all women feel secure in their appearance, especially as we age. There is a thought that if you hide your body, they can't criticize it. The purpose of a fashion blog is to discuss these choices and give our impressions of the clothes being worn. You ask "what are we allowed to wear?" The answer is anything that pleases you. The difference is when you are a public figure, a fashion blog will discuss those choices. I want to reiterate to you that I agree that we should not be discussing anyone's body, features or in some cases hair. We can't control our God given characteristics unless we choose to alter them by artificial means. No one has a right to pick apart a person's body in any way. I even understand when a woman decides to alter her appearance because of the types of cruel comments that judge the face and body they were born with. Outrageous behavior by strangers can erode a person's confidence. The purpose of a fashion blog is to comment on and debate the choice of clothes and how they work for each person. We don't all agree because oftentimes our personal preferences get in the way of what we consider stylish, but that is a different issue than wearing oversized clothes. Proper fit goes a long way.
Delete11:11 I always enjoy reading comments written about removing the emphasis from the wearer and onto the clothes. However, I don’t see a way around the issue of describing clothes’ shape effects on humans: because clothes do enhance how we look - or change how we look to be more negatively perceived. I think it’s because we and our clothes are physical shapes and this is reality of looking at physical objects! We often read : flattering, slimming, elongating, broadening, engulfing, etc in fashion because this is the effect clothes can have. That said, there’s then the choice of words a critic can choose, and how they focus on the wearer or the article. I often try to distinguish, eg Maxima looks fantastic but I don’t like her Natan dress shape/stiffness etc (that’s an example but I’ve written it often enough!).
DeleteI wonder why our der admin is ready to tolerate comments about plastic surgery. Maybe because it is quite fashionable to do it ...
ReplyDeleteSad some people feel they need to have surgery just to look good. They should embrace their differences and accept them, not be so vain.
DeleteDon't they have a functioning heating system in these meetings rooms at UNESCO Paris? Why is she wrapped up like someone going out in wintery conditions? I don't get the point, sorry.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that during the change of leadership, she looked fuller in the face', much as if she was putting on weight again. Now she is dressing up in hideously large, bulky clothing to cover the weight gain.
ReplyDeleteLet’s face it not everyone is tall and slim, easy to wear designs and look good. But as stated many times on this blog some wear a garment just because they like it, regardless of body type, so it leaves it open to critique not criticism.
ReplyDeleteFranchement MT, quelle allure avec ce pantalon et ce haut trop court pour sa morphologie.
