The Duke of Kent arrived at Westminster Cathedral to witness the transfer of his wife, the Duchess of Kent’s coffin, from Kensington Palace. He was accompanied by his daughter, Lady Helen Taylor. Upon arrival, he was welcomed by the Dean of Westminster Cathedral, Father Slawomir Witoń, before watching as his wife’s coffin was carried inside. The funeral of the Duchess of Kent will be held at Westminster Cathedral on 16 September.
The Duke of Kent’s immediate family — Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Princess Alexandra, Lord and Lady Frederick Windsor, Lady Amelia Windsor, Lady Marina Windsor, and Lady Gabriella Windsor — also gathered at Westminster Cathedral to witness the transfer of the Duchess’s coffin from Kensington Palace and to offer their support to the Duke.
The dignified presence of the royal family to see the transfer of the coffin, was handled beautifully. Strength and support to the immediate family in numbers. They all look appropriately groomed. Lady Gabriella, what a dignified and graceful Lady, so elegant.
ReplyDeleteSo wundervolle Worte, genau so empfinde ich das auch. -Dorothe-
DeleteGreat dignity for such a loving and giving Lady; a bit of a trail blazer, she dared to go out side the norm, and did a great deal of good without a fanfare . Good to see a variety of the family members present.(Tara)
ReplyDeleteTomorrow is the final Goodbye. The Dss of Kent was a grand lady dignified and class. May she RIP.

Lady Gabriella est tout simplement splendide. Je lui souhaite de retrouver le bonheur.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteSincerest condolences to the Duchess of Kent's family.
ReplyDeleteI know it must have a been a hard day for all of them and still they look so dignified and appropriately dressed.
I don’t quite understand the event but see everyone very well dressed for it. Watching the coffin being transferred? Would someone with more knowledge please add some info as I’ve not heard about this step/ceremony/event prior and probably others haven’t either? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe coffin was transferred via the Royal hearse to Westminster Cathedral yesterday and after arrival a Rite of Reception and Vespers took place, which was attended by many members of the Duchess of Kent's family as you see in these pictures. The Rite of Reception is a Catholic funeral rite where the coffin is brought into the church and greeted by a priest and mourners. The coffin then rested overnight in the Lady Chapel and the requiem mass for the Duchess was held today.

Paloma.
