On Thursday afternoon, September 11, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands formally opened the restored Tapijtmuseum in Genemuiden. The museum showcases the history and development of Genemuiden’s carpet industry. During her visit, Queen Máxima toured the exhibitions and spoke with stakeholders and volunteers about the museum’s restoration and the development of the carpet industry. She also viewed demonstrations of traditional rush crafts.

The Tapijtmuseum is housed in two factory buildings. The museum illustrates the history of the Dutch production of broadloom carpets. On the ground floor old looms are displayed. The first floor offers space for presentations of handicrafts and handloom weaving. On the second floor is a cinema and a space for the permanent exhibition, which includes examples of old floor coverings, wooden looms and various types of rush mats.

A stunning outfit for Maxima. Seems a very happy meeting of the crowd too. Love the skeins of coloured wools!

Oh come on this is Maxima… she does big, she embraces big , big is part of her DNA. Let’s embrace that! She looks so happy, and others look excited to see her. LRB

Totally agree with the hat being too big, over the top, to the point of simply obnoxious.

I love this ensemble on Maxima. She wears this champagne colour so well, and I like the variety of textures she presents - from the smoothness of the silk/satin blouse, to the textured skirt. I'm also really happy to see the return of the "big hat" which is a Maxima signature staple. She does a good job of wearing a wide variety of different hat styles, which is a credit to her.

Also, what an interesting place to visit. I happen to love all kinds of handcrafted material and objects and would happily spend a couple of hours in this museum, seeing and learning about craftsmanship - both the traditional and modern (commercial).

I’d love a close up look at the skeins of yarn/fibers. Gorgeous colors!

@Anon 22:35 Yes, aren't those yarn colours beautiful? And what about the family portrait of Maxima, King WA and the girls, that has been made into a carpet or wall hanging? It's amazing what can be done these days with technology.

Skirt and blouse are nice, the hat, don’t know what to say, it is the first thing that your eye is drawn to. A bit too big imo, draws away from her pretty face.

  7. Waouh, mon regard s'est tout de suite porté sur la très élégante dame derrière Maxima ; elle a su combiner les couleurs jaune bouton d'or avec un très joli bleu !

Must be her personal assistant/lady in waiting, not sure of the term these days, since she is holding the bouquets of flowers.

Maybe she wears big hats like Queen Elizabeth used to wear bright colors? So people can see her?

Magnificent outfit and wonderful hat. Maxima always wears a hat for an official opening and I love this! The hat makes the outfit for me and this is a particularly excellent one for her face.

If queen Maxima wears a hat (big or small) she is criticized. When she is not wearing a hat her hair is criticized. Lucky she is always in good mood and happy and friendly to everybody.
I like her in these champaign colors which suit her.
