Last week, Queen Mathilde traveled to New York to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80). During her trip, the Queen also took the opportunity to visit her daughter, Princess Elisabeth, on the campus of Harvard University in Boston. Princess Elisabeth is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Both women look so fine and comfortable. I especially like the soft red outfit on Queen Mathilde, but have to admit I am an "ironing freak." Princess Elisabeth's shirt needs someone to iron it. It's much nicer-looking on the model. Yes, I know, most young women have no idea how to iron.

Forse la signora che le stira gli indumenti aveva il suo giorno libero…

I iron and steam everything. I get your point -- but do you really expect a student to iron? Her blouse is not crisp, but who cares? It isn't bad, especially for a busy student. She probably does like so many other students and uses a wrinkle spray. The best thing for these royal kids is to live on their own, being responsible for their own food, laundry, schedules, etc. It would be a tremendous disservice to her if her family provided an assistant to iron her clothes, buy and prepare her food, and clean her rooms. These kids have grown up with great privilege. It is a gift to let her live as the rest of us do. It will make her a better queen. I love seeing her dressed down. She is getting a few precious years to be like her peers.

I imagine she’s there this time not for the world to examine her every centimetre but to hug her mum!! Let’s let her off this time wot?! Besides which, ironing is a much rarer sport these days and I’ll hazard a guess (purely a guess) that most young people don’t own and don’t need irons. I myself have an iron but live in the mountains and iron about 3 times a year so when I saw these photos I just thought, nice blouse, without even noting the wrinkles. It’s very freeing not to focus too hard on my own of others’ tiny wrinkles now that I reflect.

Love the denim blouse. Some people iron denim and others don’t. For a student I would guess it is pulled from the dryer and worn as is.

She is a student and has probably not a lot of closets where she can hang her clothes. (She always said she didn't want special favors and prefers to be treated like any other student) I assume a part of her clothes must sometimes stay in her luggage. In that case It is useless to iron them. Queen Mathilde is wearing one of her red pant suits which is comfortable to travel with. I wonder if Princess Elisabeth returned to Belgium together with her mother, since she will be present at the festivities in the G.D. of Luxembourg on Friday October 3.

I hope she did return with her mum. Not much time left before the festivities begin.

Just found out that Queen Mathilde visited her daughter Princess Elisabeth at Harvard University before she went to the UNGA 80 in New York. So Princess Elisabeth probably didn't return together with her mother to Belgium.
The pictures are made by the same semi professional photographer and fellow student Max Bueno who took the first pictures of Princess Elisabeth when she started at Harvard last year.

Really special photos, in my opinion. And the photo in which their faces are towards the garden, is maybe an iconic photo. Two strong women, from different generations but both so sparkly and lively in their roles, and both look so committed to their families and role that crossed their path in live. Love Elisabeth's hand on her mothers back. The fact that their both in uni colour outfits makes the photos even stronger

Very true. She is not in pajama pants, or worse, dressed as a furry. She is very well dressed for a student.

Anon 22:37 you name laugh so hard. I work on a huge college campus and never in my 27 years have I seen a furry. Our mascot isn't even furry LOL.
Elizabeth looks college appropriate, relaxed and happy.

Paloma.

I am a freak about ironing my clothes too. But Elisabeth's denim outfit looks fine to me and I can be a tough critic. She is a beautiful young princess. Did anyone notice there are more wrinkles in her mother's slacks than Elisabeth's denim?

Yes we noticed the wrinkles in Queen Mathilde's pant suit, but she probably had not much time to change clothes before stepping down at the airport. Besides the pant suit she is wearing is made of linen or a mix of linen and another fibre. Wrinkles are normal. It has been said that Queen Mathilde left Brussels on sunday on a normal plane not in the Air Belgium one she uses when she is going abroad together with King Philippe. Since she was on her way to New York for the UNGA80 and went to see her daughter first, it is quite possible that she didn't change clothes because most of her luggage travelled together with the people of the Belgian delegation who were also at UN conferences and parted a day or two later than she did. The days the queen passed with her daughter were days as a mother not as a queen, so a wrinkle more or less doesn't matter.

I noticed that Princess Elisabeth and her mother have the same height on these pictures. I understood why when I looked at Queen Mathilde's feet and saw she wore flats. So, you see that is how a queen and her daughter really are with wrinkles in their clothes and wearing flats like anybody else, but so happy to embrace each other after a long time.
