On September 16, 2025, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde are visiting the province of West Flanders with the central theme of ‘safety at the North Sea.’ Their visit began at the Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Ostend, followed by a stop at the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ). The day concluded at the Kursaal in Ostend, where the King and Queen met members of the public and joined invited guests for lunch.
ZIMMERMANN High Tide Floral Linen Midi Dress

What an ugly dress
ReplyDeleteI can understand why you think it is 'ugly'. But you have to admit it certainly is original and unusual and that the designer was creative.
DeleteIt's one of a kind and the floral arrangement and colours are very vibrant. The way the flowers stop midway on the sleeves and body of the dress is interesting. The violet against the pink is a good colour combination.
Was this comment really worth making? I detest comments that make everyone feel bad without bothering to explain kindly your viewpoint for others to reflect on. If you need guidance, use the same language you’d use if speaking directly to the wearer or the designer.
DeleteI don’t think it’s ugly, but it is rather on the fussy side. It looks to me more like something one would wear as a guest to a spring wedding.

I also don’t find the dress attractive even on the model. It is even less attractive on Mathilde because of her body shape. A rare miss in my opinion.

Paloma.
The dress is not to my taste
ReplyDeleteIn photo 4 where we just see the upper of the dress, the colouring is very flattering for Mathilde. In the full length shots the dress seems to overwhelm her.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteWow, this is a Whole Lotta Dress. Dozens of fancy buttons, puffy sleeves, big contrasting belt buckle, on top of what is already a very complex colour and pattern design.
ReplyDeleteI think it's all too much for Mathilde. I'm not even sure whether any other royal could wear this dress without being overwhelmed. The fabric is the kind of pattern which would look great as a full length evening dress -- but with sleeves removed, no buttons, no belt and a wide boat neckline. Simplifying the shape would allow the pretty pattern to be fully appreciated. Lyra
I also find it a rather unfortunate piece, nevertheless the third picture, looking at each other is sweet. I admire this royals for living and working together, not an easy task i believe.

"Let's put flower-buttons on it, in case somebody happens to miss the floral motiv. And while we are at it, puffy arms too, in case somebody misses the airy-lightheartedness of this design. And also because we can." That I hate hate this kind of high collars is my bad luck, but also bad luck for this dress.
ReplyDeleteIt's me who wrote Anon 16:28. Forgot to add: splendid length. But everything else is just like an overspiced meal that gives you heartburn. The single ingredients can be good - and then you ruin the whole thing by putting everything in it. Though - those flower-buttons are not a good ingredient above the age of 5.
DeleteWhat did you thought, being a bit sarcastic and everybody will start to laugh? You could have simply said that you don't like the dress. All Zimmermann dresses have more or less the same details. Big sleeves, high necks, busy prints, etc...
Delete@Anon 18:20: why the irritation? I don't belong to those who write "I like/dislike it" because I myself don't find this kind of comments interesting myself. I prefer to write why I like/dislike something and prefer to do it in my own way. Yes, I was sarcastic related to the dress - but you were sarcastic against me personally. Big difference.
DeleteWell written 16:28. Not sure why the other commenter was so snarky but it was definitely unwarranted.
DeleteIf Queen Mary wore this dress everybody would like it, especially because it is a Zimmermann, which is one of her go to fashion brands.
ReplyDeleteOn other Belgian sites I saw Queen Mathilde when she was greeting the children and the people of Ostend. It was very windy and probably not very warm, so she was lucky to wear a dress with a high neck collar. Her pink handbag was the Tempête by Belgian designer of leather goods Delvaux.
ReplyDeleteThis Australian brand dress Zimmerman, looks splendid. I love the whole concept of the dress, the skirt has plenty of flair. I love the colors, very pretty and feminine. Love the color of her clutch and shoes.
ReplyDeleteAgree!
DeleteI know my styles choices are boring to some. But solid colors and more simple styles suit Queen Mathilde and her tall and somewhat large frame better than the overwhelming and fussy styles. It looks like a lovely purse.
ReplyDeleteI’m very surprised by the number of negative comments about this dress; I think it is gorgeous, and very flattering to this lovely queen. I don’t usually like brightly-colored garments, but this one is an exception because of the delicacy of the print, the unusual and intriguing placement of the pattern, and the beauty of the color combination. I also love this style of sleeve. Imo Mathilde made a wonderful choice. — Jane
