Stunning silver Silvia. Such an elegant lady. I bet she’s rocking the flat shoes under that magnificent skirt and then I wonder, who would ever choose the discomfort of heels under such a skirt when flats are hidden and just as cute? King also very dapper indeed.

Properly fitted high heels, made of quality materials, are not uncomfortable *at all* to a lot of us. I find so many “dressy” flats uncomfortable, and some are downright painful. Everyone’s feet are different, and everyone gets to choose their own footwear. Can we all stop with the criticism of footwear based on one’s perception of whether it’s unhealthy or painful?? Criticize the color or the style (I know many dislike TMs Q. Mathilde’s and Q. Maxima’s shoes with the clear inserts because of how they look, for example), but I for one am quite tired of the armchair podiatrists’ lectures.

    2. Queen Silvia has had foot surgery for Hallux Valgus not too long ago. Based on that knowledge, some of us might comment on her choice of footwear now because of that. I don't think that this should be perceived as "criticism" of any size of heels she (or any other lady featured on this blog; I also think of Queen Letizia in that regard) might choose or not. Hey 17:43, it was my own wonderment hence the wording “I wonder”. Not an armchair podiatrist but my fashion opinion. Also not a criticism. I think it’s a completely fair fashion subject and I enjoy the ideas around it in the comments on this blog.

No need to be a podiatrist to know that high heels are.not conducive to foot health. They shorten the Achilles and cause other foot issues ( see Letizia.) That saiid, they're your feet. Ruin them if you want, but don't expect others to jump on the bandwagon. Wonder if there were diehards for fashinable footbinding before that was done away with?

I couldn't have said it better.
I don't want to start a controversy, as I know what works/ doesn't work for my feet, regardless what people say.
From my experience, the heels height might be just a part of the discussion, the other should take into consideration the shoe quality, materials, design, overall comfort, individual foot shape and condition, etc.
I've tested hundreds of pumps in my life with different heels height and all this has taken me to the conclusion that the more high quality a shoe is, the more confortable it feels on my feet(feet protections are needed anyway).
I tried on loads of flats, low quality ones being like an ordeal , much worse than wearing 15 cm high heels, whereas good quality ones felt like a glove and gave me the best comfort.
      Same goes for sneakers.
If your choose the ones made according to the latest comfort technologies (Memory foam, cushions, ventilation system) , you feel like walking on the clouds, marvellous.
But if you try on bad quality ones , you will feel pain at every step even with flat soles!

    6. Excuses me, @ Anonymous 03:46,
I think that overgeneralizing and trivializing the footwear - related topic does not take anywhere.
I see no one conditioning high heels on you or anybody else.
I frankly don't get the sense of your overreaction.
Each individual is unique, what feels great and confortable on one's feet , may be painful on another person.
You don't even seem to take into account that some jobs entail a certain overall presentation, which, I think, is also the case with royals performing their engagements.
      Just and example.
I have to wear heels at work too and I can't escape this requirement.
I am required to show up at my best from head to toe out there.
My working shoes are confortable and the heels height is reasonable.
I am trained to smile and smile again even when I am drained.
You can't expect royal ladies to show up in slippers all the time!
They have to be up to the public's expectations somehow and they are humans as well.
Each woman chooses what best suits / fits her feet.

Shoe discussions are part of fashion discussions. We don’t need to tell each other what to think as we share our opinions and observations ! Narrow pointed shoes are not good for any feet - but they do look lovely. Some feet will be less affected by them than others and we should celebrate the wide variety available and enjoy seeing what our royal ladies choose. I think Silvia moving to flats is very sensible after the horror of bunion surgery recovery and I love that she can wear flats under a ball gown and nobody sees the difference!

  3. Queen Silvia looks stunning! The second picture is very cute, how they look at each other. I can only admire the good posture of King Carl Gustaf in his tuxedo.

Yes, how they look at each other - the Kind seldom does something like this, first: smiling and second: smiling while looking at his fabulous wife!

Getting soft knees out of pure enthusiasm about Silvia's outfit ... yes, quite a wide and stiff skirt, but so well balanced by the soft curves of that admirable little jacket.

Thanks Kim. It was a strange sensation to read her criticism of my simple wondering out loud regarding something inane as shoes. I’m not sure why people get so fired up here and tell others what to do!

I'm swooning over the luscious, lustrous, burnished opulence of that skirt 😍. I know very little about fabric -- does anyone know what this gorgeous, heavy-looking, exquisitely smooth material is?

Paloma.
