On Saturday, September 13, 2025, Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and Princess Aiko visited Nagasaki Prefecture. The Imperial Family visited Meguminooka Nagasaki Genbaku Home, a nursing home for elderly people, where they met with atomic-bomb survivors. In the afternoon, the Emperor and Empress visited the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum to attend an event showcasing works by people with disabilities.
Photo2: Maybe our visitor from Japan can tell us why they don't sit down when talking to the old lady? - Aiko has a lovely ponytail and surprise: blue shoes, very nice.
DeleteDear @Anon 03:12, I translated your answer telling us that older persons may sit down while waiting for the emperor, thank you. I was puzzled why the Emperor and his family don't sit down. But OK, they simply don't ... :-)
DeleteLovely summery dress on the princess.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to say that I find the dress Princess Aiko is wearing too much like the standard girls' school uniform in my country (even though, as a fabric, I adore blue-and-white-striped seersucker.) The very basic belt, with its plastic buckle, forms no small part of this effect -- an awkward look for a grown woman of 24 years. But I do like her cornflower blue shoes. Lyra
ReplyDeleteI understand well why you have this association with a school uniform, but for all others, first of all: for Japanese people, this association does not exist, and it also does not exist for countries completely without school uniforms (Europe), the dress is simply a shirtwaist dress. And then, I am also sure school uniforms do not include pearl buttons :-)

DeleteI do not have the assodiation with a school uniform. Nevertheless I can see that the dress is too long and doesn't fit. On the last picture one can see the dress when Princess Aiko is marching and it doesn't look any better than when she stood still. The fabric "seersucker" is good for home wear, not for a nice dress of a princess who is in the company of her father The Emperor and her mother The Empress; when visiting a nursing home for the elderly..
6:37 maybe not what you would choose to wear in your fashion culture? That’s ok. But don’t forget she’s in her culture with its norms and trends, so we can’t criticise that. It’s for us to look and learn!
DeleteI can only say what I like her to wear and what is not beautiful for her. Look at the beautiful light blue pant suit she wore the other day. That has nothing to do with her culture but everything with the western culture. The Empress herself wears sometimes a pant suit which is cut in the same western style. She also has a light blue one and a beige one. I do not think I have to learn something of the dress in which she can be seen here. By the way "seersucker" is a western type of fabric not a Japanese. So it has nothing to do with Japanese culture.

The Princess looks lovely. Her blue shoes are gorgeous, pretty color. The Empress looks pretty, love her pearl necklace.

ReplyDeleteje suis d'accord avec vous parce que dès la première photo, j'ai eu cette impression ; il est dommage que sa robe soit aussi longue car cela aurait permis de mieux voir ses chaussures bleues !
Given the restrictions, this is a swingy, flowing dress, and with the colorful shoes, a fresh, welcome look for the princess.

I agree, though I beleive she was seen in this dress last year at the beginning of the summer vacation. Love the pearl buttons.
DeleteNice outfit specially the dress of Pss Aiko. The shoes give it a little extra.

I much prefer this lighter weight youthful looking dress compared to her dress a few days back. She’s a young woman, and although I’m sure she has to adhere to royal protocol,I’m sure there are plenty of options for her to wear that incorporate both age appropriate and protocol.
ReplyDeleteAs always HM looks elegant in this two piece pant suit.
