Princess Beatrice attended the official opening of the United Arab Emirates’ largest bank, FAB (First Abu Dhabi Bank), at its new London branch. FAB marked the opening of its new UK location at 20 Berkeley Square with an evening event attended by senior leadership and distinguished guests. The relocation celebrates FAB’s nearly five decades of presence in the UK. For the occasion, Princess Beatrice wore a double-breasted blazer by Zara and a silk-blend leaf-print dress by ME+EM.ME+EM Silk Blend Leaf Print Midi Dress

Dress is nice, jacket is not really a good combination option - ruins the character and the prettyness of the dress. I would also like to put a big question mark behind the cause. A British princess could opt for a more fitting engagement with national character. Economical interests are not too far-fetched if it is 1. a bank and 2. it is an UAE bank. It does not really make her more respectable in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteTwo points: 1. I agree that the jacket is a mis-match with this outfit. Not only does it not fit well by flaring out over the hips, but it takes away from the style of the dress, as you correctly point out.
Delete2. Are you aware how much of London's prime real estate, towering skyscrapers (The Shard), famous stores and brands (Harrods), airports (a chunk of Heathrow), hotels (The Ritz), industries, sports clubs (football teams) and energy initiatives are owned by the royal families and many enormously wealthy private families of Abu Dhabi and other Arab emirates? There are dozens and dozens more entities. It is for this reason that King Charles and the UK government is so closely connected to the Emirates and other Arab countries, and therefore it is no surprise that Beatrice would be representing the royal court at this particular event.
This IS the new "national character" that you speak of.

From the details above, it appears to be a summer evening event.
DeleteThe dress is a good choice but it needs some upgrading for the occasion.
The blazer is a good choice but perhaps not the one she is wearing. Some restyling would help.
To follow the comment of Anon 9:13.
Princess Beatrice is perhaps there on a “rent-a-royal” deal.
Maybe a donation was made to one of the charities she supports.
I came across this some years ago when Princess Diana’s step mother, Raine Spencer (Countess Spencer) spoke at an event in London. She was well known as being a “rent-a-royal" for prestigious occasions.
It appears, the person can ask for a fee or a donation to a charity or charities.
I think every deal is individually negotiated.
“Scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” is well known in the world of business and fashion houses.
@Anon 9:13, " Are you aware that ..." Yes, dear Anon 9:13, I am :-) - this, though, does not mean in any way, that Beatrice has to show herself for a UAE bank branch opening. There are lots of worthier causes out there (simply because this here, "rent-a-royal" as someone wrote, is not a worthy cause at all. -
DeleteAgree totally with @Anon 9:13. This is not a worthy cause, it's showing up because someone paid her, not because she or the Royal family felt it a worthy cause, which pushed her into her Mum's realm of accepting $ for representing herself, while trading on the Royal Royal status. Kind of bad to embark on this slippery slope, so to speak.
Delete12:08 I agree. I find the “cause” obscene. Beatrice looks sweet and uncomfortable. Beautiful dress, and I suspect the jacket was hastily added because everyone else in the room is in a jacket, whereas the dress alone would have been fine.
Delete@deadeggs lets give Beatrice some credibility she is not 'Rent a Royal' Beatrice is vice president of tech company Afiniti, networking with wealthy companies gives her company an opportunity for future investments. she did a few similar networking events in Saudi Arab last year.

Beatrice is dressed very professionaly in her capacity as VP of Tandiiti tech" also refered to Tiandy Technologies, a global provider of intelligent security solutions.Tiandy also offers solutions for other industries like public security, transportation, and finance. Most of their clients are based in the Arab world.
DeleteAgree with Deadeggs
DeletePrincess Beatrice is not a working royal. She has a job, working as a Vice President of Partnerships and Strategy for an AI startup company. There are many reasons why she would be there, and all have nothing to do with it being a "royal engagement".

Le style de cette robe imprimée est bien joli mais si le blazer était plus court à hauteur des hanches, son look serait bien meilleur !
ReplyDeleteQui c'est vrai
DeleteHas she banking expertise?
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to have banking expertise to open a new branch of a bank in London. She is just there to accomplish a ceremonial role.
DeleteBeatrice is not a working royal, she has a job; vice president of tech company Afiniti, her company receives funding from Arab bank
DeleteI hope she doesn't walk the same path as her father and mother before did.
DeleteI am not a fan of random blazers worn over casual dresses to give them the illusion of being more formal. This is no exception. I would have really liked if she had worn the blazer with the matching pants. A pant suit would have looked more appropriate to me.
ReplyDeleteI agree. A pants suit; or else a skirt and coordinating jacket, like the stylish outfits of the 2 women standing next to Beatrice.
DeleteHowever I do think the cream colour looks fresh with her ginger hair. Lyra
She looks like Pippi with har red hair!
ReplyDeleteOh come on not even close
DeleteBeautiful gorgeous hair. keep your prejudice to yourself, its ignorance.
DeleteIt has been written by the majority of the commenters : wrong styling. Jacket is too long on a summer dress. A shorter navy or black jacket with the dress is O.K. or a longer jacket with pants.
ReplyDeleteI really like this ME+EM dress--very pretty and very feminine. Not a fan of the white/cream blazer with this dress. I would have preferred to see her pair a black, bolero style jacket (and I think she has such a jacket). I love, love, love her shoes!!! Not sure what Beatrice is doing at this event--maybe it has something to do with her job--but it's always good to see her.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Bolero style jackets are not fashionable anymore. There are new short blazers or jackets in the collections of this summer. They are perfect to wear with a summer dress.
Paloma.
The jacket is not complimentary to the dress. This seems to be as stated above that add a jacket and it turns the outfit into a business look. Sophie does the same with the same less than successful result. I also do not feel a royal should be involved. They should be spending their time with the less fortunate mot the most wealthy. Obviously there is a perk in there.
ReplyDeleteThe royal families are getting smaller and smaller. The royal houses these days are the king and the queen and the crown prince or crown princess. The rest of the family brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces have to study for a job. In some royal families it is already like this. If the royals of the future will continue to exist they'll have to do it like this. There is not enough money any more because the tax payers do not agree to pay for an elaborated royal family.
Delete@07:37 i think young Royals now want to live their own lives, instead of being scrutinized for every move; what they are wearing! why they spend tax payers money! Its better to live independent; take the titles and make more money this way, without the burdens of Royal duties. Look at Princess Martha, Princess Madeline, the sussexes; they are living life at their own terms.
DeleteAnon0737 if this will be the norm then they should not use the princess title
DeleteI agree, Anon 15:58. We live in a modern world and living as a working royal, with all the restrictions that come with that life, must be very difficult at times.
DeleteNo to the jacket, yes to the beautiful dress and those fabulous shoes.
ReplyDeleteAgree on both points. Also as stated above that a short jacket would have looked much better with this smart dress
DeleteBea may favour these type of sleeves, her wedding dress is an example, though as stated above these little girl sleeves should be left for little girls
ReplyDeleteI don’t see how her presence lends to the occasion. Especially since she is not educated in the banking business. The dress is pretty but not with the jacket, mismatch.
ReplyDeleteRoyals attend all sorts of events that they have no training in. That is not a requirement.
DeleteNice to see her. Boy she gets it from everywhere. Yes, a nice dress, maybe a short jacket would have looked better, and maybe a different color. it must be her day to be picked on, yesterday it was mine.
ReplyDeletecss
Are you a royal too ?
DeleteThe dress is pretty, I like the style and length. Not so with this white jacket, it looks misplaced with this dress.
