On July 2, 2025, Queen Mathilde visited the Van Buuren Museum and Gardens in Uccle, a former Art Deco villa and adjoining garden estate created by art collectors David and Alice Van Buuren. The museum houses a remarkable collection of furniture, carpets, stained-glass windows, sculptures, and paintings by international masters.
The museum, once a private residence in Uccle, was transformed into a museum in 1975 according to the wishes of Alice Van Buuren. It was designated a National Heritage Site in 2001. This year, the museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the centenary of the Art Deco movement with Around Art Deco — an exhibition dedicated to sculpture from the interwar period. For the occasion, the Queen wore a printed dress by Carolina Herrera.
The frill on the skirt is an overkill, it doubles the size of her hips compared to that of her shoulders. I had to look twice at this amount of green leaves under the waistline, if is it real or a photoshop trick ...
ReplyDeleteI agree. This is one of the few CH dresses that I have not liked. The print is gorgeous but it needs a simpler skirt design without the ruffled layers. (V.M.)
DeleteCorrection - Ruffled layer, not layers. (V.M.)
DeleteI'd like to add: No problem at all with wide hips. They are feminine, they are fine, and I don't think one has to try to make them look smaller. Just respect the proportions the body has and don't make them look that much wider for fashion's sake.
DeleteThis is actually a rather nice dress by CH, but I'm not sure it's quite right for Mathilde. It doesn't look right on her in some photos.

I agree with you. I like the dress and the pattern but belted and frilled is just too much. Also not ideal for Queen Mathilde’s shape, I feel
DeleteThe dress is ok, if you are a certain frame, but sadly, not Mathilde's frame. The shoes are also a no, her feet look swollen and pushing the toes out. Bless her heart, she needs to wear more comfortable shoes.
ReplyDeleteWell indeed, what tight shoes, what a drag and also not necessary, there are so many nice comfortable sandals and wedge heel espadrilles for the summer, my feet are already sore just looking at these pictures.
Delete00:46 you’ve summarised my thoughts. With the heat this week, I think flat open sandals are the shoe for all. Looking forward to the end of the heat wave
DeleteHer feet are swollen because of the heat. Not because of the shoes. Even if she should wear orthopedic comfort sandals, her feet would be swollen too. I have the same problem, always when it so hot my ankles and feet are swollen. All the treatments and cremes and excercises do not help, only rest with your feet higher than your body can bring some relieve.
DeleteHi Anon 00: 46.
DeleteI agree, Mathilde's feet do look swollen.
My feet swell after a long flight, but they returned home from Chile about a week ago.
Besides, the royal couple wouldn't have been squashed into cattle rails,
they would have been in first class so able to stretch out.!

I like this dress especially the colours. She looks lovely, must be cool to wear. I much prefer this length than to the ankle as other royals wear.
ReplyDeleteThe Art Deco house and art is impressive!
ReplyDeleteMathilde not so much. Nice, but nothing more.
Oui Mathilde porte du Carolina Herrera mais cette robe ne convient pas à sa morphologie.
ReplyDeleteFroufrou
La reine Mathilde a d'autres robes de chez Carolina Herrera mais elle ne les porte pas très souvent. Je me demande pourquoi.
Less is more. Un style plus simple, mois apprêté lui irait à ravir.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful dress but I’m not quite sure whether it suits the queen. I’m not sure whether it’s the dense print, or the access fabric around the waistline into the skirt.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde looks much better in a dress with a pencil skirt. I can understand that a shirt dress with a wide skirt feels very comfortable during Summer. But the wide skirt like somebody said has too much fabric. Maybe a dress with a straighter skirt would look better and no ruffle please.
ReplyDeleteBelle robe rafraîchissante mais son volant monte trop haut par rapport à sa morphologie ; de plus, peut-être qu'avec une ceinture en tissu ton sur ton, son look aurait été meilleur !
ReplyDeleteThe green color and basecolor are not bright enough or suitable for the complexion of her skin. The skirtpart is too wide; it makes the queen look ‘bigger’ than she actually is.
