On July 10, 2025, King Carl Gustaf presented the 2025 Solliden Award to Öland Resident of the Year, music promoter and cultural personality Pelle Aldestam. The award ceremony took place at Solliden Palace and was also attended by Queen Silvia and Crown Princess Victoria. Pelle Aldestam is the 45th recipient of the Solliden Award.
The Solliden Award is given to “a person who has made a notable contribution or achievement in any field, taken action, or initiated efforts that promote the island’s interests and development, or who, over a long period, has worked for the benefit of Öland.” The award was first presented in 1980 to Anna Rydstedt. King Carl Gustaf received the award in 1996, and Crown Princess Victoria in 2018.
Victioria is often at Kackelstugan with her sister-in-law Sofia!
ReplyDeleteLovely costumes from the area and the men look very dapper.
ReplyDeleteSo nice they do this every year, this must be the closeness with the people. Always nice to see the national dress being worn. In a few days we will see the whole family at Solliden for CP Victorias 48th Birthday celebrations. Looking forward to it already.

It is not the national dress the ladies are wearing, it is the Öland dress!
DeleteThe man who won the award is just soooo tall ! They all look good in their outfits.
ReplyDeletePelle Aldestam är så värd priset! @teasuremind
ReplyDeleteSo tall indeed.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know the history or story of why gentlemen stop wearing traditional clothes to favor Western suits?
I know they are some exceptions: But and king, some Arabic royals, but I'm general that's not the case and for my travels I've noticed that the same had happened with the most humble citizens: women still wearing traditional cloths while their contraparte are not.
Any thoughts?

Comme d'habitude annuellement, jolies tenues régionales mais j'aimerais bien que les messieurs en fassent de même pour être en phase avec ces dames !
