All garments look very well ironed - other than that, going on holiday clothes don’t need to be fashion, just clothes!

  4. The Emperor and the Empress sharing a piece of fabric, however, individually tailored. Love that. Princess Aiko, I try to be not too harsh on her, looks a bit too prim and proper ("prissy"?)

I like the dress on the princess, sometimes a dress can be cooler to wear than pants or shorts. Cute that her parents are wearing shirts with matching fabric. I somehow feel that the princess has nannies choose her clothes, as her mother dresses more youthful. In this case she is dressed for the occasion. Not keen on her shoes

Indeed, I find dresses much cooler than pants and tops in miserably hot weather. — Jane

Lorraine (Rose)

What should they do with their hands when just standing there being stared at? I am genuinely curious if you have a suggestion. Catherine does the same thing.

The side swept bangs are fashionable in Japan. They are referred to as Japanese Bangs and I believe this style is called a hime cut or princess cut. Kako still has bangs and Mako grew out her bangs after leaving the royal family and moving to New York.

Would it be better to put those hands in your pockets (as some royal gentlemen do)? Or striking unnatural poses like celebrities? It is not that bad to have certain behavioural patterns to stick to.

  7. Le couple impérial est vêtu à l'unisson dans un style décontracté idéal pour l'été ; quant à Aiko, sa robe me fait penser à une personne mature pas du tout à une jeune fille !

Some old courtier must be choosing her clothes.

A bit off-topic, I wish Aiko had siblings, her position is lonely per se, it would have been easier I think to have had siblings as a close support (even though it doesn't always work out that way).

I read a good biography about the Japanese empress a long time ago. There are medical reasons why Princess Aiko has no siblings and the imperial couple is probably grateful that they were (finally) able to have this daughter.

What a thoughtful comment. With siblings, perhaps there would not be so much Imperial pressure brought on Aiko and thus a chance to be a little more herself.

In appropriate comment. Obviously you have no knowledge of the years of struggle this empress had in just having just one child is miraculous

@20:37 If you are not aware of what happened, you can google the struggles Masako had when she married into the Japanese royal family & how it affected her health (hence, Aiko is their only child). ~~Ruthie

I know about the horrible time Masako had of it, Still, from Aiko's perspective, being the only child in her position must have been and must be quite lonely. This is not meant to critizise her parents, mind you. I myself wish I could have had more children, but it wasn't to be. This does not imply criticism of anybody. Sometimes things are the way they are, which is sad, and nobody can do anything about it.

    三人が着ているのは沖縄の「かりゆし」と呼ばれる既成服です。

Thank you for your comment, Google Translate gave me this translation of your text: "The three people are wearing what are called "Kariyushi" clothes in Okinawa. They were recently developed to be comfortable to wear in Okinawa's warm climate. They look cool. "Kariyushi" in Okinawan dialect means auspicious or good luck." I can’t say I’m a fan of any of the looks sported by the imperial family here. There are so many pretty blouse styles that would be more becoming to the Empress than this boxy, rather masculine-looking shirt. Aiko’s dress is better, but not by much — she is such a lovely young woman, why on earth must she be dressed in such dowdy-looking attire?! — Jane

How cute that the Emperor and Empress are wearing matching shirts! Princess Aiko is lovely in her Summer dress.
Surprising the the Imperial family only take one week vacation. The other RF’s take a lot longer.
