Each year in June, members of the Order of the Garter gather in Windsor to celebrate the crown’s most noble order, which has existed since 1348. On June 16, King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester attended the Order of the Garter service at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. The Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Edinburgh, who are not yet members of the Order, were also in attendance.
The Order of the Garter is the oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain, established by King Edward III nearly 700 years ago. Most members of the royal family usually attend the annual service, and many senior working royals are Knights and Ladies of the Order.
This time around I think Sophie's stands out as being the star of the show. The fabric of her dress is so gorgeous in that soft pink shade. The design is exquisite with the flowing tie around the waist, the draped feminine bodice and 3/4 length sleeves. The lovely hat tops it off with style. I also like Catherine's skirt as it's a bit daring but still modest and the multi strand necklace which is an unusual style for her.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely right about Sophie.
DeleteAnd again: beautiful Catherine! In the portrait-photo she looks a bit tired, but it could be the light.
ReplyDeleteI think she puts on a brave face for the public, we will never know the health challenges she has been through
DeleteAs always: just one quick snapshot and maybe: no lipstick. Nobody looks perfect in all photos made at occasions like this.
DeleteOh yes, she really is a brave woman! I hope she recovers completely.
DeleteFull marks for both Catherine and Sophie!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cream two piece re-wear, beautiful pink dress with the A-line bodice once more, beautiful colours, and beautiful hats (especially Catherine's).
And let's rejoice a little because Sophie got the length of her dress just perfect today.

Yes !
DeleteHi Anon 9 : 13.
DeleteYes , the Hemline Police should have nothing to complain about today.
I think Sophie looks lovely.
Cate.
Hi Cate, yes..but now the 'Undergarment' Police are out in force, who cannot see that the dress was cut that way to celebrate a healthy, feminine bosom, on a woman of 60. Can't win, unfortunately.

La duchesse Sophie est délicieuse dans cette robe rose pâle avec le chapeau assorti !
ReplyDeleteWow I’m blown away by Duchess Sophie’s look. Perfect styling. The color cut and length is ideal for her shape. The hat is light and complimentary of the dress. I hope Sophie stick to this type of styling ,really does flatter her.
ReplyDeletePrincess Catherine in Self Portrait isn’t my favourite look from her. I think it’s the lacy bottom that spoils it. The jacket and hat are pretty.as are her chosen accessories.
Lowri.
Catherine and Sophie both look great today! Just wondering what qualifies a royal for this order. It seems like Sophie should have qualified long ago with all the engagements and roles she has done in the past and continues to do.
ReplyDeleteRenee
Hi Renee.I too am surprised that Sophie hasn't had recognition as yet.
DeleteAlso, imho, the hard working D of G was long overdue for her admission to the Order.
Cate.
The ladies look lovely, although Sophie's dress style at the top half is not flattering to her figure.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be improved by better undergarments.
DeleteSophie is pretty in pink. I see Catherine’s signature look, very tailored.
ReplyDeleteSuch á colourfull Tradition!
ReplyDeleteThe enthousiastic spouses look wonderfull!
Love especially Sophies dress and the colour and form of her hat.
Everyone looks really great! But, I don't know. The lacey bottom of Catherine's skirt just doesn't work for me. Other than that, she looks perfectly lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe PoW looks stunning and perfect. I believe Pss Beatrice has the same outfit only in black.

Rewearing clothes is great, but Catherine wore this just a few weeks ago! sge could have got something from years ago.

Why the hat, Catherine?
ReplyDeleteBritish culture at official events
DeleteWhy the question, lady?! Of course she must wear a hat for this occasion and this one is absolutely gorgeous.
DeleteBecause all the other ladies wore hats according to the protocol?!
DeleteWhy should P. Catherine have been the exception?
Kate and Sophie both look lovely in what I think are repeat outfits.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to Royal Ascot where there are always lots of
beautiful dresses on display.
Cate.
The make-up on Princess Catherine's left eye is too dark, darker than on her right eye. I have always liked her in this dress by "Self-Portrait". I like her white hat. Just like the turquoise dress the other day, the fabric of this dress is rather warm to wear in the summer (at least the bodice is).
ReplyDeleteDuchess Sophie's pink dress is not so long like her other dresses but the style and cut is the same as the green dress she wore the other day, just the sleeves are different. The hat is too big and covers her face on one side.
Eyes makeup is even and perfectly executed on both sides.
DeleteThat is what smokey eyes technique is all about: more emphasis on eyes and less definition on lips, which usually feature a variable palette of more muted colours, from rose- pink to light coral.
If you go for a more sensual full face effect ( ie. to evening events/ major nights), darker lip shades can be used
Dark eye pencil/ kajal is determining to get a dramatic smokey eye effect and there's more smoothing out of dark shades than what can be seen in these pics.
You only need to look at more pics and close-ups to realize what I am talking about.
.
You’re right 7:34, that’s what it appears to be in these photos. Wondering if the lighting esp due to angle of the hat is changing how it appears in these photos.
Delete@Anon 11:04: Yes, the light, and of course the hat, reflection of a white hat is quite different from that coming from another colour.
Delete@ 11:52
DeleteI noticed the strange eye make-up on other occasions too, it is not the first time that her right eye is made up differently than her left eye. This is not how her make-up was done a couple of years ago. On these pictures she could use a bit of blush on her cheeks. The white hat and white outfit are making her look too pale. Maybe someone else than her regularly beauty specialist did her make-up lately.
Ruching above the breasts and broad empire waistline directly under the breasts - this would look nice on Catherine, but not on Sophie. This is the same empire style like on the green dress she wore on Trooping day and it is not a bit better here than it was there. Just take a look a the photo where she can be seen from the side (7th photo). She lost her body contours to the design. She often chooses nice dresses, but not the ones that fit her best.
ReplyDeleteI think the dress is beautiful on Sophie. I think the silhouette it gives is true to Sophie and very feminine. And I particularly love the colour for her. - Mary
Delete@Anon 10:156 Seriously? Catherine in that dress? I don't think she'd be able to fill it out properly as was meant to by design, especially the the top part. Sophie looks wonderful in it - feminine and womanly.

Normally I don’t think Kate and her sister Pippa look much alike, but I was struck by how much Kate looks like Pippa in the last picture of Kate, above.

Sophie's dress looks better in theory - and in the photo but not on her or the model. It just doesn't translate to the human body very well. I'm thinking it's that the fabric isn't sturdy enough. Kate looks lovely. Although, in some photos on other sites, the fabric appears to be drowning her a bit.
ReplyDeleteWilliam looks better when he wears a hat. It helps the proportions of his head. With every appearance, I am to trying to decide whether his beard is a good addition or not. Perhaps it is still growing out? Or does he deliberately keep it that length? I want to like it but, right now, it looks straggly and unappealing.
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous 14:13
DeleteI never liked him with a beard. It doesn't suit him and until know it has not an attractive shape.
I find his beard very appealing. I also find it to be very neatly kempt. Above all, if he likes it, I would never dream to question it.
DeleteSophie looks pretty in pink, but as stated above the style dress with the soft fabric
ReplyDeleteI think that white is nice on princess Kate and she looks good. However she looks stunning in more brighter colours like pink, yellow, green and especially the blue she wore a few days ago. I guess the right colour palette makes a difference. I don’t find anything extraordinary in what Sophie is wearing. Pretty yes. But ok…
