Hmmmm. I feel that in the first outfits the two ladies are “over fabric-ked” on their top halves. Beautiful colours and materials, over done. In the second set of photos, Maria Teresa looks very beautiful. Stephanie is gorgeous in green and the neckline suits her so well, but the whole outfit is let down by the sleeves/cape which once again, means that just too much fabric is involved. Without the sleeves/cape the greeness would be beautiful balanced by the bare skin of her arms. You can see the effect in the photo of her sitting so we only see top half - beautiful hair, earrings, face, green - but in full length much too much material.

      Hi Anon 09: 52.
I absolutely agree with you that the day outfits of the ladies are over
fabricked.Having said that I somehow don't think that we would find that particular word in any dictionary.!

Cate - I had to manufacture “over-fabricked” specifically for the occasion! - Mary

None of the outfits are "wow" for me. But I probably like Mrs. Mattarella the most.

Why didn't the author give a detail photo on Mrs. Mattarella, when he already bothered with the detail photos of Stephanie and the Grand Duchess? After all, she is at the same event. Many times, non-royal ladies are a greater inspiration in fashion.

Good point that we may learn more from non-royals. I think whoever posted this focuses on the royals and didn’t think to include details on others (which it’s fine, as it is a blog, so someone or a group are behind it doing the work for their own purposes).

    3. I think that complaining here the blog administrator Helen is disrespectful. You can easily contact her and make your points. But however this blog is about royals as anon at 13:19 wrote.
I like Laura Mattarella's blue outfit very much, it's fun and edgy.

Zucchini, Stephanie isn’t complaining, she’s asking a question. Not remotely disrespectful, just expressing a wish.

The best dressed is Grand Duke Henri :-) As for the ladies, I like Stephanie's earrings and how her hair is done. Apart from that, I fail to understand the reasoning behind choosing those clothes. Helena

    1. I guess you just do not appreciate fashion, it is hard to believe you are so negative, too bad. The ladies look lovely!!!

@FITZHUGH: How do you know that I do not appreciate fashion? I do and this doesn't mean that I should like everything I see. Helena

Entirely agreed with you, @ Fitzhugh.
      Negativity as ever.
Apart from failing to appreciate fashion in general and from a clear lack of basic fashion knowledge, the main issue might stem from a lack of broader general vision and modern perspective..
Being stuck in old, conditioning cliches does not help to recognize valuable pieces of clothing imv.

Helena, valid comment. I don’t find it negative, but valid. Unfair if you Fitzhugh to level criticism for her saying in this case she doesn’t understand the garment choices. It’s fair! I always love your fashion critiques, so keep them up Fitzhugh (but don’t please label valid wonderments as negative when it’s simply commentary).

  4. Tout de suite, je dis oui pour les tenues de madame Mattarella qui sait varier dans le choix de ses tenues ; j'aimerais bien connaître le nom de son couturier s'il y en a qu'un seul ?!

  5. Laura Mattarellas coat (coatdress?) is quite unusual, I like it.
Stephanie looks lovely in this shade of green!

Mrs Mattarella: always very elegantly dressed, and yet again.
Stephanie wears beautifull green shoes,; the dress is strange with the bare arms.

    Beautiful post, thank you!!
What a warm welcome for President Matterella & his daughter Laura!
They all look fantastic and in high spirits, great.
The Grand Ducal couple along with the Hereditary Couple held a magnificent gala dinner, as far as I can see in the pics.
    A truly somptous scenario.
Laura looks so classy and elegant in both her outfits.
GD Maria Teresa's necklace looks a bit too heavy in my eyes.
I would have opted for less outstanding and bulky jewelry, like a subtle diamonds set.
    Pss Stephanie looks lovely.
I do like this forest green coloured gown on her and the halter neck.
    Her earrings are fabulous.
Laura's and P.Stephanie's makeup are balanced and perfectly done, while I see the usual makeup overload on the Grand Duchess.
I love all the ladies' hairstyles .
All the gentlemen are groomed to a tee as well.
The way they all smile and interact with one another is the cherry on the cake and something not so common throughout State Visits.
I think that the Italian President is held in high esteem by the Grand Ducal family.

The heavy layers of MT’s pale blue top would have worked better as a skirt. As a top, they weigh her down and shorten the effect of her height even more. The profile picture of Stephanie at the dinner is beautiful—the emerald earrings with her well-styled hair and the green gown are lovely.

The first three pics of the Grand Duchess: don't be angry with me, but the first thing I thought of was a somewhat futuristic, but nevertheless full functional metal construction standing on the streets of a city for collecting ... well whatever gets collected in a city, people throw something in and the somethings get collected by city worker. But the black dress with the necklace looks superb. Stephanie looks really good, as long as we only see the open shoulders solution of the dress. But as soon as the rest manifests itself not as sleeves but as a cape - no please, no cape no more. The green colour is excellent on her. As for Laura Mattarella, she mostly dresses really nice, but my personal interests lie on the focus of this blog: royalty and fashion. Of course, why not mention if we see something extraordinary, I am fine with that, but without paedagogical intentions. The blue coat dress could be called interesting, but attractive it is not. I like human forms flattered and caressed, not hidden or contradicted.

First thought for MT was love the colour, to much fabric. The presidents daughter same thing nice colour and fabric but too much. Then I see the group photo and lo and behold both outfits take on a new look, and somehow balance each other. The evening dresses, MT best I have seen her look in a long time, the necklace though heavy looking is okay keeping proportions. Now Stephanie great colour, just not a fan of the capish sleeves, perhaps if it was a lighter fabric rather than solid would of enhanced the look. As far as the black and white its okay but would prefer either more white in the top or alittle black in the skirt. Overall they all look very nice, my fav would be the MT.

Laura Mattarella' usually dresses fine and classic. This top and dress/skirt she is wearing here I do not like at all. I know she wore a blue silky dress in the same fabric on another state visit. The strange short coat or top she is wearing over the dress/skirt in the same blue, I do not like at all.
GD Maria Teresa's light green top and black trousers I do not like either, especially the light green top. The GD is too short to wear such a big light green top.
Evening wear : HGD Stéphanie's green halter neck dress looks good on her. The cape that covers her dress is not needed. If she absolutely wishes to wear something to cover up her shoulders, she could wear a stola or even a cape in a transparent fabric in the same green. The cape could be attached to the arm openings of her dress. Like it is now it is not attractive to me. Her green shoes is a good choice. Maybe the dress could look better if it was a little longer. Earrings are beautiful.
GD Maria Teresa is looking good in the black dress with the assymetrical hem. The necklace even if it is rather big, goes well with the style of her dress.
Laura Mattarella's long white skirt and black lace top are simple but not bad at all. Sometimes it is better to keep it simple.

All the outfits are "interesting" in they own way but I have to say, Stephanie's green gown is the big looser out of all of them. Stephanie's gown is too short. It looks horrible in the bad "off-the-rack" sort of way. It's called "floor length" for a reason. I just don't understand how she, or her "stylist," "helpers," can't see that or, worse, don't care. That dress is doing her a disservice in so many ways. And then she added matching green shoes! Wow! Whew! Girl!!

I want to like her outfit as well, but something is not quite right, perhaps a lighter cape would make all the difference

@Anon 17:18: The umpteenth empty rhetoric about stylists who don't care, without knowing if there are any ... with sarcastic remarks about the shoes and about the length in a manner as if you knew how the length was designed. I really wonder how your writing style coach did not notice it and told you to correct your style. Girrrl!

MT's light blue top is quite interesting. Maybe not the most flattering but it looks modern and edgy. I like it. The fold in the top of Ms Mattarella looks very odd, but the colour suits her.

Evening looks: not fond of Ms Mattarella's top. It's too long for this skirt and the neckline misses structure. I really like MT's outfit. Hair, make-up and jewellery look fab, as they do on Stephanie as well. The picture of her sitting at the table is fantastic. But the picture where she's walking... not the best shot, I must say. The cape and the lifeless dress make her look wider than she is. But the green is a great colour for her, and the neckline is very flattering. I can see why she chose it, but there must be better dresses in this world for her.

Worldchampionship ‘origami ? To me this overworked tops do nothing for both ladies. Probably very good workmanship and design, but not flattering at all. PS looks radiant but her green dress is also not really flaterring for her (so called uni-boob).

    -Astrid.
