At the invitation of the President of the Republic of Chile, Gabriel Boric Font, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium are undertaking a state visit to Chile. On June 24, 2025, the King and Queen were officially welcomed by Chilean President Gabriel Boric at La Moneda Presidential Palace in Santiago.
Following the welcome ceremony, the King and the President held a bilateral meeting, which was later followed by an expanded session with the Belgian and Chilean delegations. Meanwhile, Queen Mathilde visited the Chilean Museum of Pre-Columbian Art.
Later in the day, Queen Mathilde met with members of the Mapuche community in La Pintana and learned about their rich culture and centuries-old traditions. The Mapuche often live in urban areas and actively preserve their heritage despite facing challenges such as cultural marginalization and social inequality. In the evening, the King and Queen attended a Belgian community reception.
She spoils us with this perfect choice of clothes,!
ReplyDeleteThe last picture with the red evening dress: stunning!
the red suit and stiletos were not suitable for a cultural visit in the village

ReplyDeleteFor the official part of the state visit, Queen Mathilde wore the coat and hat she wore this year on February 18 to attend the Mass for the Deceased members of the Royal Family. In the museum we saw for the first time the dress she was wearing underneath. When visiting the Mapuche indians she wore another Dries Van Noten pant suit to play the local version of golf or hockey. In the evening to attend the reception with the Belgian Community living in Chile she wore a red silk dress, a rewear of the dress from the Christmas concert in Brussels.
ReplyDeleteWhen coming back to Belgian this Winter garderobe can go back into the dressing until next Autumn and Winter. The weather forecasts for Belgium are announcing tropical temperatures for the coming weekend and the beginning of next week.
Mathilde looking overall fabulous. In terms of tiny adjustments possible (outfit 1) I don’t think the coat is well cut for her, but the hat and dress are a beautiful colour for her. (Outfit 2) The red suit is stunning on her, particularly with the rest of the group in blue, but stilettos seem crazy for that visit and flat lace ups eg white runners would have looked in my opinion much better. Or a typical Catherine / Mary outdoor visit outfit of hiking boots, neat outdoor trousers and a nice top. (Outfit 3) I think we’ve seen this dress before? The red is incredibly flattering for her and so glamourous but the shaping at the top makes her narrow top narrower and the red sash wrapped around the dress widens her already wider lower half. I think either a scoop neck or shortened sleeves (above elbow) would help rebalance the stunning gown. If this were a Dutch state visit we’d be seeing a tiara, but not so for the Belgians.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that very clear and precise analysis of these outfits. Overall nice impression of the Queen but your recommended tweaks are on point.
DeleteAs there was no state banquet and the country does not have a king that invites the Belgian delegation, there is no need to wear a tiara. The evening reception was with the Belgian people living and working in Chile. Wearing a tiara on a reception would have been ridiculous. No need to wear a hiking outfit with adapted shoes for the little time she spent with the Mapuche. She had other obligations on the same day. Don't forget King Philippe and Queen Mathilde normally had to take the plane to Santiago on Sunday. Due to a malfunction of the airplane the departure was postponed to Monday. The whole program of their stay in Chile had to be rescheduled.
DeleteThere was no red sash wrapped around the dress it was incorporated in the dress. If Queen Mathilde should wear everything what is suggested in the comments here she would wear always the same boring outfits. At least she is trying now and then new ideas and new creations. If you don't like the red evening dress like it is, just say you don't like it. You have every right to do so.
The coat is cut like the military styled coats of the British royal ladies.
It is a winter coat so it is longer than usual, but not on the ankles like Duchess Sophie always wear. As nobody knows who is the designer of this coat, it could be one she bought from a British brand.
WOW! The red evening dress is a stunner. Very elegant blue coat, hat and dress outfit. The 5th photo is so good. Queen Mathilde always looks god in red and the the pant suit is beautiful and fits well. She has followed the current fashion and chosen wider pants. She seems to have a fun outing.
ReplyDeleteAll three of Mathilde's outfits are smashing! Her red suit and evening gown are beautiful but I particularly like the dark dress with the neckline detail. Can't tell whether it is a lacey cut-out or something else, but it's very beautiful and effective. I also like that she chose to wear a different style of hat. The photo of her standing in front of the wooden statues is brilliant.

I was surprised to see QM wear such a heavy coat in what seems like a warm country. But surprisingly the temp in Santiago is only 12c. I’m not a fan of the coat, but the dress and hat are lovely and so flattering.
ReplyDeleteThe red DVF red suit fits perfectly.
The red evening gown is definitely a ‘wow’ look. Red is a really good color on QM.
The earrings are lovely too.
Lowri.
Pourquoi se mettre en tailleur rouge avec des escarpins pour aller dans un village ?

Les très hauts talons 👠 quand on est hyper grande, c est vraiment pas classe.
I think Queen Mathilde could give style lessons to a few other royals. She looks great!
