On June 18, 2025, a number of young members of the Belgian Defence Forces (La Défense) were invited by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium for a dinner at the Royal Castle of Laeken. The evening provided an opportunity to discuss their professional experiences, ongoing projects, and perspectives on global and societal issues. For the occasion, Queen Mathilde wore a two-piece ensemble by the Belgian fashion house Natan.
A mon avis, avec quelques centimètres en moins et ceinturée plus bas, cette jupe serait parfaite pour s'associer à ce haut blanc !
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and summery outfit! I like the longer hairstyle lately.

Yes, she looks so beautiful!
DeleteIndeed.

She looks like standing on stilts. Basic knowledge of own bodily properties would be helpful. Those properties are excellent except for an accentuated waistline and belts. This is how one can ruin the appearance of wonderfully long legs - adieu proportions!
ReplyDeleteWell she does have really excellently long legs and a very high waist. As a smart woman we can have no doubt that she knows this. I think it’s more a matter of hello proportions than goodbye. She is what she is and seems to embrace it.
DeleteCritiquing fashion is one thing, but reducing someone’s appearance to a list of flaws—especially someone like Queen Mathilde, who carries herself with grace and a clear sense of duty—is neither constructive nor kind.
Delete1410, it is not addressing ‘flaws’ , just that the style accentuates shape. This same outfit could be worn by Mary,Victoria, Catherine,Letiza, Mette, Maxima, and each would draw the eye differently.
Delete@Anon 16:32: exactly, as you say - same outfit, different effects on different women. The outfit itself is wonderful, and Mathilde is wonderful too, but they were not created for each other. High waist + beautiful long legs are not flaws (nobody mentioned flaws anyway), they are just in contradiction with accentuating the waistline like this.
DeleteI agree that the proportions are awkward. A white belt would have been an easy fix to trick the eye. Other than that small alteration I think she looks wonderful here. (V.M.)

DeleteWhy always compairing the royal ladies with each other. They all have their own style. I can find for each of them outfits in their closet that accentuates their particular shape. I admire more a person's character, if they are friendly, what interests they have, if they are social thinking and intelligent, if they care for those who are in need, etc...... than how their body looks .....
I agree with @anon 13:52 & 14:10 that we can comment on fashion without taking the wearer's fysical specifics under scrutiny.
ReplyDeleteWhat I would alter on this otherwise very lovely outfit is take a belt in a different colour, and/or untuck (or tuck more loosely than it is now) the top.
Great comment.
DeleteI think that neither possible nor desirable. For an outfit to work well, you have to take the wearer´s physique into consideration. That´s not discussing flaws, but dressing for your body type. Ideally, you want to accentuate the right things.
DeleteClothing without a wearer is lifeless. The wearer brings it to life and can make it look good or bad, depending not only on his/her physique but also posture, movement, and of course styling. Even one´s colouring plays a role. No - we cannot discuss fashion without taking the wearer´s physical features under scrutiny. For Mathilde´s body shape, this outfits simply wasn´t the best choice. Proportion is key.

DeleteTo me that's the difference: to take someone's physique "into consideration" vs "under scrutiny".
Like you say: there could be many reasons why an outfit looks good or not on someone, but the way we discuss them is key.
Entirely agreed, @ Anonymous 15:45
DeleteHello,@ Vanessa- 21:25.
I kindly disagree with you for a number of reasons.
Unless we all commenters are professional seamstresses working on pieces of clothing and needing to take royal ladies'measurements and body shapes into account, I do not see any obligation whatsoever to scrutinize them.
Both you and me know so well by now that it takes just a short step for someone on this blog to jump from scrutiny- out of supposed sartorial purposes- to ruthless bullying, fat shaming, thinness shaming and so on.
(often extended to children and younger royal ladies).
And yes, bullying is neither possible nor desirable.
I kindly beg you not to give someone that type of detrimental input as your words might sound as a legitimate invitation to nitpick and find physical faults in royal women, even more cruelly than what has already been going on this board for years now.
Of course, we all are here to comment on them but I can assure you that there is a red line which is never to be trespassed .
This red line is called decorum and implies being tolerant to others' body sizes/ builts, etc.
If I -as a woman who has to give her own body the utmost care and look flawless in my overall presentations due to my work specific requirements- am used to being respectful and not fussy about others' bodies-, well, then, anybody can do that.
There are humans beyond those royal wearers, not targets to be hit and they are not bulletproof for sure.
We all should have this simple concept in our minds before commenting.
Let’s not lose sight of the person behind the outfit!
DeleteQueen Mathilde is wearing an outfit of 2019. The trousers are very wide. I wonder why she tucked in the blouse. I think if she wore it not tucked in, it would be much better. The blouse is also a rewear. She wore this blouse first on a yearly Christmas concert in the palace. She wore it on a long black velvet skirt or velvet trousers. I wonder also if a plain blouse in the same green as the pants could improve the picture.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you @anon at 16:11! I thought what's wrong with this lovely outfit but you solved the problem perfectly 👍.
DeleteMathilde’s softer looking than usual hairstyle here looks lovely and is so much more flattering on her.
ReplyDelete-Royal Watcher
Yes her hair is much better looser and more natural.
DeleteI like this outfit, I just feel that although there is alot of white in the skirt, the stark plain white blouse, needs something to tie it in better. Perhaps a different belt or necklace.
ReplyDeleteShe looks fabulous. Love this outfit.
ReplyDeleteShe looks so young with the longer hair !
