On May 4, 2025, King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark attended a service at the Church of Our Lady (Vor Frue Kirke) in Copenhagen, commemorating the 80th anniversary of Denmark’s liberation. They were joined by Queen Margrethe, Princess Benedikte, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, who represented the British royal family. The Duchess of Gloucester is a Danish-born member of the British royal family.
The commemoration brought together representatives from the government, the Danish Parliament, ministries, the armed forces, and foreign embassies. The service was led by the Bishop of Copenhagen, Peter Skov-Jakobsen, and included reflections, prayers, and music in honor of the liberation and those who gave their lives for freedom.
Later, King Frederik and Queen Mary, together with Queen Margrethe, Princess Benedikte, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, attended a memorial ceremony at Ryvangen Memorial Park in Hellerup, north of Copenhagen. On May 4, 1945, Denmark was liberated after five years of German occupation.
The ladies look good, each and every one of them. I did not know that the Duchess of G. was born in Denmark, I am always happy to see her here because she is a pleasure for my eyes - always tastefully elegant. Though wearing a coat, the collar frames her fabulous pearls beautifully and allows them to shine. That light blue pant suit looks as if it was created for Mette Frederiksen, she looks perfect in it.
ReplyDeleteAgree completely. All the royal ladies look perfect.
DeleteThe Danish aristocrats are in almost every royal house. The ladies have been popular as wives for centuries.

La reine Mary est élégante dans cette robe dont la coupe est belle.
ReplyDeleteJ’ai de l’affection pour les couleurs de la tenue de la princesse Benedikte.

Mary est magnifique

Denmarks Mary is a perfect queen!
ReplyDeleteQueen Mary looks nice. I just don't quite like the shoes, they don't seem to look good on her feet. Maybe a slightly lower heeled navy suede. HOWEVER, I think the Duchess of Gloucester is giving Mary some serious competition in the fashion arena. The ivory outfit complimented by suede boots also in a warm color looks magnificent. The other ladies look lovely as well.
ReplyDeleteAgree Virginia. I’ve long wondered at Mary’s fondness for these Gianvito Rossi shoes and consistently wearing the 105 model with 10.5cm heels, which have the whole body weight on the poor metatarsals. She does get good use of the shoes with ( apparent) loads of rewears but I wonder why such a sporty lady doesn’t wear a greater variety of less towering/pointy shoes. She would look as elegant or even more so!
DeleteLet her wear those heels as long as she is able to. There will become a time for lower heels. And I would guess most of the time she wears lower heels in her everyday life.
Delete-B.
We are letting her wear them B, most particularly because she doesn’t consult with us before she chooses her shoes for the day! Imagine ! Just saying, we wonder why she chooses SUCH high shoes, and also for my eyes, such height distorts the leg so for me I ve long wondered why she wears them.
Paloma.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that today PB although a very nice fitting dress and coat I am not liking her outfit that much. Always a pleasure to see the family
ReplyDeleteThe Duchess of G. looks really very good here, I love this outfit and the choice of jewels she chose, very elegant. Queen Mary looks splendid in this color, beautiful. I love her ensemble. The brooch is gorgeous and a welcome addition. Her Navy clutch looks great, but not a fan of her shoes nor the color. Pss Bene looks divine, love her ensemble. Again she looks beautifully groomed.
ReplyDeleteGreat look for the RL's. Remember the ones who have given so much. Let us not ever forget. This great generation will be gone in a short time; will we still remember their greatest gift to Society? May God bless them all. Thank you for what you gave us all.

All the ladies look wonderful. Dark blue is another color that looks good on Mary and style of dress suits her well though I think dark shoes would fit the outfit better. Benedikte, always elegant, looks fabulous in purple. (I love purple! 😁)
ReplyDeleteWe saw Q Mary in a similar style in purple that she wore to King Charles of UK coronation. It’s suits her shape perfectly. I’m glad she went for a nude shoe.
ReplyDeleteQM looks lovely in her skirt suit and fedora.
PB - A lot of purple. It’s a flattering on PB!
Good to see the DDoG there, especially as HRH is Danish.
Lowri.
The D of G looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl!

Queen Mary looks fantastic. What a lovely outfit, though I wish she had worn a pair of navy heels, Princess Benedikte is superb as ever and the Duchess of Gloucester’s outfit is one of the best I’ve seen her wear recently.
ReplyDeletePossibly I am the only one who likes Mary's choice of nude shoes. Reason: Her fascinator-hat-thingie is one kind of blue, the dress another, that's all right. But to have a third kind of blue on her feet would be quite unprofessional. So why not create a mild contrast that is better than an imperfect non-harmony of three hues of blue. She is usually very good at choosing shoes with a clear contrast that benefit her outfit.
ReplyDeleteQ M to much make-up!
ReplyDeleteMaybe she is insecure?
DeleteFirst prize for the most stupid comment.
DeleteComme toujours Benedikte est superbe dans cet ensemble - J'adore l'originalité de son manteau dont le côté droit est ouvert ainsi que ses chaussures où il me semble voir partiellement du violet comme sa robe !
ReplyDeleteThe Duchess of Gloucester looks impeccable. Closely followed by Queen Mary. That being said, of course, Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte do look well put together, too.
ReplyDeleteTo me the best dressed are Princess Benedikte of the older ladies and Mrs Frederiksen of the younger ladies. Duchess of G.'s coat has the shape of an old fashion bathrobe Why she is wearing boots in May ? Even Q Camilla put hers away until next autumn. Queen Margrethe's outfit is a rewear but not bad at all. She could wear now and then a plain navy blue hat with these clothes too, or a light grey one and adapt her accessories to the color of her hat. Q. Mary's outfit looks a bit sad. A pop of color would have looked fresher.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Duchess of Gloucester (a lady who is 79 yrs old) is wearing boots because it was cold--the morning temps on Sunday were in the 40s F and really never got past the mid 50s F. The evening temps dropped again in the 40s. Janet
DeleteThe Duchess dress is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAll of the DRF ladies look lovely and elegant. Its wonderful to see the Duchess of Gloucester able to honor her homeland--she was born in 1946 so I am sure the war and its aftermath was a huge part of her growing up years in Denmark. She also looks wonderful and elegant in her cream ensemble.

Two considerations:
- light and candles are often associated with Life and Freedom on a more general level of significance in Scandì countries.
Light vs darkness and extreme weather conditions, for example.
If seen in this particular context, candles and light convey a deeper level of significance, as can be inferred from the article;
- now a remark on a more " frivolous" topic of discussion (yawn, always the same boring debate : high heels vs low heels...).
Now, let's be real, please:
this ceremony started early in the afternoon (15:30) and a service was held at a Copenhagen church.
Mary was supposed to spend most of the time sitting on a chair inside the church and walking a very short route , arguably from the car to the main entrance.
How all this " long walk" could damage her body and posture is truly beyond me.
Her posture and perfectly straight legs tell a pretty different story.
The second part of the ceremony took place at Hellerup and pics clearly show that Queen Mary had already changed into a lower heeled pair of boots later in the afternoon.
I can''t see why make all this fuss about her high heels then.
By the way, I very much like the contrast between her blue ensemble and the light cream pumps, very sophisticated.
I like all the other royal in attendance as well.
Q.Mary usually wears high heels (just like a number of other royal ladies do) but for a woman used to walk and move in them
(feet protections are used as well ) it's no big deal and no ordeal for sure.
She is supposed to wear them for restricted amounts of time - which means NOT all day long- and only to her institutional engagements.
So, please, why carry on with the high heels jingle?
Moreover and as far as I know , she has no medical condition requiring wearing low heels.
