This was the style of two-pieces the house of Natan made for Queen Paola when she was not queen yet. Also Queen Mathilde (then princess) wore these jackets and skirts. I still like this example of classic fashion. I also like the brooch a golden and diamond duck. The only thing I don't like (and I never did) are the T-strap shoes. Since the color is light the straps are not too much visible. A famous designer, I think it was Karl Lagerfeld once said, ladies should never wear (especially when they are short) shoes with straps around the ankle, because they are cutting the leg in 2 pieces and make them look even shorter. I can imagine and I saw it already with dark shoes, if the shoes have ankle straps the legs are looking shorter. No problem for Queen Maxima, she is tall and has long legs and her shoes are not dark.

I will gladly disagree with Karl Lagerfeld (who I thought was a strange dresser himself, so personally would not take fashion advice from him) and say: I love her shoes. The straps are so elegant, making for very chic shoes.

    1. To be able to wear the same outfit more than 20 years on is impressive. Lovely suit and Queen Maxima looks great.

That suit is the first Natan item I’ve wanted to see again - or own. It’s gorgeous! I never will own it because the price will be much more than I can bear, but she looks fantastic in it.

The problem is that those suits are not made anymore because they are not fashion anymore. Maybe it is possible that on demand a queen or a princess will be able to order a suit like that, which will be made entirely according her measurements.

To17:59 it may not be in fashion anymore, sad because it shows how an outfit that is in proportion and styled based on a person makes a huge difference in appearance than just draped fabric.

The ladies in pic. N° 3 &4 seem to be dressed against the cold. Is that cold in South Africa this time of the year ?

    1. I believe it is autumn in the southern hemisphere so I'd expect it be cool. Of course it's cold here in Central Canada right now so I'd have layered a blanket over the queen's suit!

    2. Nice suit with fun shoes. Good to see the queen in a fairly simple suit. It's well cut for her height

Yes, S. Africa is entering their winter (as is Australia and the rest of the S. Hemispshere) but winters there are not as restrictive or as cold depending on the altitude you are at. At sea level it is still comparatively warm in S.Africa (with occasional blips of course) but the higher elevations can be pretty cold with snow.

  12. Queen Maxima looks lovely in this sof pastel design that has stood the test of time. It fits her beautifully. Like others, I'll jump into the shoe war. I also don't think t- or ankle straps are as attractive on women's feet. But especially if you are short or have "stocky" legs - then never wear them. But Maxima has gorgeous legs and feet and can wear these light colored t-strap shoes - because the straps are very thin and feminine looking --- not the clunky black things that our lovely Princess Caroline was seen wearing a week or so ago.

Belle et chic Maxima. Elle n’a jamais fait d’embonpoint mais elle est devenue vraiment mince. Elle devrait cesser de perdre du poids sinon cela risquerait de la vieillir.
