On January 5, 2025, Queen Rania of Jordan visited the governorate of Jerash, where she met with members of the Darb Al Noor Association for Community Development and a group of young entrepreneurs she previously supported through a sponsorship scheme. The association focuses on empowering youth and women by supporting their small-scale projects, while also providing safe spaces and educational programs for children.
During her visit, the Queen toured Beit Al-Aseilat rest stop, established by Darb Al Noor to offer tourists an authentic local culinary experience. Visitors can participate in the production of olive oil, sumac, and other traditional food products. For the event, Queen Rania wore a button-front cotton silk midi shirtdress by Gabriela Hearst.

حذفThis is not something women necessarily have to do in less strict Muslim countries. In Jordan women do that as they like. Some will cover their hair (some with just a loose scarf, some leaning more towards Hijab), and some won't. You'd find a much stricter dress code in Iran, Saudi-Arabia, and - the strictest I know of - in Afghanistan. Perhaps you remember Princess Lalla Salma of Morocco (divorced from the king in the meantime). She also showed her flaming red locks and did not wear a head covering. I suspect, they all will do when entering a Mosque, though.
حذفIt occurs to me that very often Rania, who always looks elegant, is the only one without a headscarf. But indeed women in Jordania are free to go with or without headscarf. In contrary with Afghanistan where its not only about headscarfs that women have to wear, they must be fully covered on the streets, accompanied by a man,women cannot study. Women are a nobody in this country with thanks to this violent Taliban
