On December 17, 2024, Queen Mary of Denmark made a Christmas visit to WeShelter’s social food club for vulnerable and mentally fragile individuals at NABO Center Amager in Copenhagen. Earlier this year, the Queen became the patron of WeShelter, an organization that has been helping the homeless and socially vulnerable since 1893.

Every Tuesday evening, WeShelter organizes a food club, run by volunteers, where homeless and socially vulnerable individuals can come and enjoy a meal in the company of others. The organization operates three community centers for socially vulnerable individuals: Pegasus, Offside Social Garden, and NABO Center.

  1. What a terrific organization and wonderful visit by the Queen. Her vest and polo jumper work in well together. Her pants are a nice color and perfect fit. She looks lovely.

Everyone has different tastes when it comes to style, and it's perfectly okay to not agree. Sometimes contrasting colors can create a bold, eye-catching look, even if it's not everyone's preference. Fashion is all about experimenting and what feels right for the person wearing it!

Anon 14:27. If it makes you feel better, coat, jumper and trousers have been worn previously. No recycling, just re-wearing.

Queen Mary looks beautiful here. I love her outfit! I had no idea she was wearing a vest as her turtleneck underneath is a perfect match. The vest is perfect for this time of year--I love the snowflakes. Her trousers are well matched to the two tops. Her outfit is perfect for this event--relaxed and casual but still professional. What a worthy cause for Mary to have taken on.

Maybe she is, maybe she’s not. We just see a snapshot of royals’ lives.

I agree! Mary often comes across as kind, compassionate, and dedicated to her causes. She seems to genuinely care about the people and issues she supports, which adds to her positive image. It's always nice to see public figures who are not only admired for their role but also for their character.

Mette-Marit and Haakon visited a similar organization in Norway some years ago. They really engaged with the people participating in the kitchen by preparing the meals. This looks distanced in comparison. Mary's vest we saw last year when the family did the decorating-the-Christmas tree video, and she was off to Australia/New Zealand straight afterwards.

It’s interesting to compare the different approaches, and I can see what you mean. While Mette-Marit and Haakon’s visit seemed more hands-on, with their active participation, it’s possible that this particular event had a different format or focus. Sometimes royal visits prioritize more formal interactions or the event’s logistics might not allow for as much direct engagement. As for Mary's vest, it’s nice to see familiar pieces of her wardrobe make an appearance again. The Christmas tree decorating video and the Australia/New Zealand trip definitely seem to reflect a more relaxed, family-focused moment.

It’s true that royal visits are part of their official duties and help maintain their public image. The presence of the press certainly adds a layer of visibility to these events. However, it’s also worth noting that many royals genuinely engage with the causes they support, even if the media spotlight is a factor. While it’s hard to know exactly how much time is spent with the people involved, the visits can still have a positive impact, raising awareness and drawing attention to important issues.

Also note the in Norway it is the crown prince and princess, not king and queen , so to compare time spent, activity etc.duties are different. The out fit was perfect for the occasion. Nice to see rewears and I am sure in the future the girls will be raiding moms closet for this vest.

Anon 16.54 You're absolutely right—comparing the Crown Prince and Princess of Norway with the King and Queen of Denmark does involve different roles and duties, which can affect the level of engagement in these events.

I think the new king and queen can more or less pick and choose their own agenda and the time spent on what events.

This is part of the duties of a royal. All royals do these visits. It is their job and also a part of their brand. They show up and good pictures are taken. I don't think Mary would speed her time with these people if the press wasn't present.

10.48 If the new royals thinks this means a lot to them to do this kind of work and chaity, why didn’t the work and engage in it even before the married a royal person!
