I see! It seems like you have a different perspective. Could you share more about why you feel they look cold or unhappy? I'd love to hear your thoughts and maybe see it from your point of view.

I agree with the original commenter. The way QL was clutching her coat in the photos on the stairs she looked cold. I think most of you are misreading this post. We all have our thoughts but, the comments are so negative or advisable it's not funny. Hopefully Santa will gift everyone a dictionary.

No problem, but Mrs. Mattarella looks great dressed, better than a member of the royal family. The phrase "looking regal" means "looking great".
By the way, my country is also a republic. I follow this blog for fashion and I have suggested several times that the author of the blog bring photos of first ladies or female politicians who are fashion inspiration.
Of course, I evaluate fashion from my subjective point of view, but I also take into account the rules of diplomatic protocol, which I know because I myself have attended some diplomatic receptions, either in the company of my husband or while working on European projects.

This blog does bring photos of first ladies on state visits. There are regularly state visits between a monarchy and a republic. As a European mandatory you know that kings, queens and male/female presidents of the European countries are working perfectly together.

Stephanie, "Regal" refers to anything that is characteristic of a king, queen, or royalty in general. It suggests something majestic, dignified, or fitting for royalty—often associated with grandeur, elegance, and authority. For example, a regal appearance or demeanor would imply grace, nobility, and a sense of commanding respect.

NOT impressing, a simple black dress, almost undermining the occasion

I can see how a simple black dress might not feel as exciting for such an occasion, but sometimes minimalism can make a powerful statement. It’s all about the details and the confidence behind the look.

I don't like Laura Mattarella's dress, especially the neckline is odd. It gives the impression that her underware is visible. Love Queen Letizia's black dress. The modern bracelet (diamonds + white gold or platinum ?) is gorgeous. I also see she is wearing earrings with black gem stones ? Anyone knows more about her jewelry ? Thx.

The bracelets are from the Spanish Royal Collection and go back to Queen Ena. It passes down from monarch to monarch. The black diamond earrings are modern and as far as I know personally owned by QL. Google The Court Jewler for more info.

Thx for letting me know that the bracelets are not modern. From a distance they look almost new. They are fine pieces of jewelry anyway. I like it when a royal lady wears one or two beautiful pieces of jewelry. Less is more is undoubtly the case here. Anon. 11:01

La robe noire est belle, un pendentif or ou argent aurait été très en valeur sur ce fond noir. Sa coiffure est simple et très chic. J'admire aussi son maintien parfait. Mais j'ai froid aux bras pour elle !

Would agree, Letizia looks very cold on ALL the photos!! Not just the one mentioned. . . Don't know why such a COLD look??? Her personality OR something else! But also the King too!!

Maybe they are fed up with all the scandals related to the Spanish Royal family, hers too so not bothered to smile and in her own thoughts. . . Would had been nice to give a SMILE! SMILES don't cost anything and are always WELCOME! and they say a lot about a person too!! IMO

I see your point. It’s possible that the lack of a smile comes across as cold, but it might also be a matter of personal demeanor or the context of the moment. Not everyone expresses warmth in the same way, and for public figures like Queen Letizia and King Felipe, there’s often a lot of pressure to maintain a certain level of composure and formality in public appearances. That said, a genuine smile can indeed make a difference, and it's something many people appreciate, especially in moments where warmth and connection are needed.

You could be surprised. Everyone is not educated like in Spain. That is why European royals are educating their children from their young age on like other children. They go to kindergarten, they go to primary schools like other children. They are more and more educated by their mother instead of nannies. A nanny nowadays is still needed but just when the parents have to be somewhere late in the evening or abroad. The children are going to their grand-parents when daddy and mummy are not at home, just like in any other family where mother and father have to work.

  18. Extremely elegant. However it is a pity state banquets in many countries are no longer white tie and tails events.

There is a difference when state banquets take place between two states with a monarchy and one state with a monarchy and the other one with a president. In several countries a queen does not wear a tiara when having a state visit with a president and a first lady because the first lady never wears a tiara. And if the queen does wear a tiara, normally she will choose a little one.
