King Frederik and Queen Mary visited the special library, which was founded in 1746 by Frederik V, and contains the private collections of Danish monarchs, including books, manuscripts, maps, pictures, photos, and music. The library is located in the same palace as the Amalienborg Museum.
Since Queen Margrethe's accession to the throne in 1972, the library, which until January this year was known as the Queen’s Hand Library, has also functioned as a professional and research library. On weekends and during Danish school holidays, the study hall of the Hand Library will be open to all visitors at the Amalienborg Museum.
Sartorial standards seem to be slipping since QM's abdication. All I can see in the photos is the upper body, but it looks like both Frederick and Mary are wearing casual shirts, with Frederick's being wrinkled and the sleeves rolled up. Mary has adopted a bland business attire look In the past year or two which she seems to be entrenched in even as queen. Compare this to the gentleman museum guide in a well fitted suit, and to Queen Margarethe at her outing on the same day. The new Danish king's and queen's wardrobe choices are less than inspiring. حذفThey are in fact visiting a room of their own house and as such they are dressed appropriately. They are not attending a public event so don't need to be all dolled-up. For whom? Furthermore, Mary and Frederik are representative of a new, contemporary monarchy, one which reflects modernity and reality of the times. This is the right way to go if smaller monarchies are to survive and still be relevant to the times.
I also think that Mary is intentionally taking on her new elevated role slowly and within her stride. She does not want to leap to any immediate glamour just because she is Queen, but instead is being respectful to her amazing mother-in-law who is also still a Queen (though not the reigning one), and who is still very much present in the minds and eyes of the public and the Danish people.

حذفKing Frederick and Queen Mary are young and obviously young at heart so why should they dress like fuddy duddies in 'formal' dress all the time? They are in their own house, not entertaining anyone, looking and feeling comfortable, acting like REAL people. I personally LOVE to see them happy and relaxed as these pictures clearly show they are. And if Mary has a stylist, then SHE should also be crowned because Mary's clothes are gorgeous and well styled, always.

ردحذفThe lesson here is for them to stop being so open and transparent. Haven't they essentially gone "next door" to the museum? This is not an official visit, just a private look, and then someone distributed curtesy photos to document the occasion. It is just another step in the transition from Margrethe to Frederik, since it will no longer be called Queen's Hand Library. Frederik appears to be wearing a linen shirt. I realize some here cannot accept the properties of linen. For those than do understand linen, I'm sure they thought nothing of it.

حذفI get it it's just another room in their house, but it is meant as a public appearance, so earrings, makeup, a blazer or the sleeves down might have been in order, i find this look too casual, indeed almost disrespectful to the gentleman and the public, which if not present in person, present through the lens of the camera.

Frederik's style has always been relaxed and laid-back, he's not gonna change his ways, deal with it. To those of you who complain incessantly about "not summery enough dresses", nothing says "Summer" like white linen.

Just my opinion, but I think the glasses and the Queen’s casual ponytail are throwing off the formality. If her hair was down, and again without glasses, she would look the same as always. Fred is always a bit wrinkled but agree that a casual jacket would have looked better.

You make some valid points. I think the question here is whether Mary and Frederik are dressed too casually, in what is basically their own home, for a non-public event. As was suggested, they may have been called away from their desks for this look at the library. No matter, most people do not "dress" to work from home. They were not making a public appearance. I still can't figure out why there is so much of a fuss over what they were wearing. It's not like they were in t-shirts and jeans.
حذفThe things you mention are in the context of public appearances. The condition of Maxima's hair is most likely due to age or health because it has changed from earlier years. I agree with you that it is not okay to constantly ridicule her hair because I don't believe it can be helped. There is far more to her than her hair. Her hats are a part of her and her style, and they help deal with her hair. If she changed her exaggerated style, she would not be Maxima.
I also agree with you about all the comments when a dark color is worn any other time than winter. It is an ignorance about fashion. The idea that black can only be worn for funerals or in winter ceased decades ago, but some people are stuck in time. Black can be worn successfully all year. Case in point, Charlene just wore a stunning black jumpsuit.
I do find Camilla's boots tiresome. She could find a few more options. She has the means. That being said, her wardrobe is not very exciting either. At her age, I doubt she is going to change.
