All dresses of Meghan are amazing elegant. They are simple, with 2 ( red and black&white)of them having a swinging touch. And please can we stop saying hateful things in this blog about Meghan. This blog is about fashion and not a juicy gossip channel. There is more than enough polarisation already in this world.

  3. Really, apparently she did not understand or did not receive sufficient information about Nigeria. It's a rather conservative country where about half of the population is Muslim and the other half is Christian, divided in different churches like for example the Adventist church which certainly does not approve this kind of clothing (I'am referring especially to the black and white dress).

      @ Veerle
When people from another nationality come to my country, I do not approve always their kind of clothing or their way of conducting themselves either, but in a changing world we will be obliged more and more in the future to accept the differences between other nationalities and beliefs and the efforts to achieve this goal must come from both sides.

This clothing is lovely, the Duchess looks lovely, but my thought is exactly like your. It is more respectful to cover yourself more as a woman in these Muslim and conservative Christian places. You would think they would investigate the norms of places before appearing so ignorant about the culture. Not one other woman is so bare as she is in these photos. It is disrespectful and, I would think, husbands are not pleased to have their wives being a spectacle for other men. Both Sussexes should do a little serious studying before appearing in public events. It is a kind thing to do.

To bad Queen Elisabeth in 1956 didn't get that memo when she showed her bare arms, knees and shoulders. And they hadn't learned either when Di and Charles in 1989 went and she also showed up in bare arms and shoulders and not to mention made head turn with this dress. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT4jOXBFc3azPPkmGHOwfTnb4Q3sptZ1gwwjyukXx4ZAQ&s the criticism never ends do it?

Well, the red dress is from a Nigerian designer, and they have other similar dresses too, so I guess that's not as big a problem as you want to make it. If they had visited a mosque, then she would surely have taken all the appropriate precautions. And don't forget that demanding a woman to cover herself (and I don't mean that you should run around totally naked) is an example of patriarchal oppression, from which millions of women are suffering around the world even today.

A simple Google search shows Nigerian clothing styles for women. There are plenty of women wearing more modern dresses that are strapless and extremely form fitting. They are fashioned in gorgeous regional fabrics. I can't see that Nigeria is much unlike any other country with conservative and more modern dress. We see the divide every day on this blog. Stop assuming that little to no thought was put into this trip. This is how Harry was brought up. He knows how to travel abroad and Meghan was well-travelled before meeting Harry. It is not easy to take these criticisms seriously knowing that most of them are being done for sport. The reports I have seen coming out of Nigeria have been positive.

Megan's red dress is from a Nigerian brand, Oríré. The designer is Orire Aleshinloye, who holds a Masters in Fashion Business Creation from The British School of Fashion in London. She Nigerian and spent her childhood in the Republic of Benin. I think it is safe to say that a native Nigerian woman knows far better than the troublemakers on this blog what is appropriate and what is not.

From the brand website: Established in June 2021, Orire is a Contemporary fashion brand committed to exploring artistic femininity through distinct artisanal craftsmanship and conscious production.

Our manufacturing process prioritizes quality and we take pride in using sustainable fabrics, aiming to reduce harm through our production process. Most of our products are produced in small batches at our studio in Lagos, Nigeria while others are produced on a made-to-order basis to eliminate excess and allow flexibility to our customers by providing the option to customize fit.

Creativity, innovation, social and environmental responsibility sit equally in our brand ethos. Around the world, we work with entrepreneurs who share our values. The brand has developed quality relationships with its tailors and local fabric suppliers, and works to ensure that every team member who touches the clothing is treated respectfully with fair wages and working conditions.

Through responsible production, socially and environmentally growing practices, we are contributing to create a more transparent fashion industry.

Same thing in Europe which is plenty of African and Muslim immigrants.

Nice to see Duchess Meghan supporting this young Nigerian fashion house.
There are a lot of highly talented fashion designers in Africa.
It’s a pity but they get very little exposure on the international fashion scene.
Princess Charlene of Monaco has used the well respected South African designer Terrence Bray on several occasions and has been a client to the luxury South African fashion house ERRE
Some African countries hold a “fashion week” based on the European model.

The black and white dress looks like the same silhouette/design as the gold dress Meghan wore in New York for an event. Perhaps same designer. I like it, except do not care for the cut-out area on the bodice (on both this dress and the gold one). I know middle parts are in style currently, but I think a side part for Meghan’s hair is much more flattering on her.

She doesn't. The cross is square just like the cross mark on your key board to make additions. At the cross there is attached a little ring like on any other pendant to pass the chain through. That is what is given you the impression of an upside down crucifix.

Not of your business how much she payed for her dress. Besides she probably doesn't pay the prices you can find online. She can conclude a deal or just hire a dress. There is a Belgian brand "Essentiel Antwerp" i.e. where you can hire a gala dress for a little amount. A lot of aristocratic ladies are using this service regularly. Maybe she just hires a dress too now and then.

Could you please find out …..
If the Duchess bought the dress?
Did she get a 50% or more discount?
Or was on loan from the fashion house?
      Did she rent it?
Did the fashion house pay the Duchess to wear the dress?
Was it a gift from the fashion house?
Was it a gentleman’s (sorry gentlewoman’s) agreement with the fashion house that they would give a substantial donation to the Archewell foundation? (completely legal) Also known as a "scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" deal.
Was it just a freebie with no strings attached to it? (the deal, not the dress).
The rag trade is an international, multi-million dollar competitive business. Some people go so far as to say it’s a cut throat business.
Their sales/commercial people work hard and will go to no limit to get free publicity which would have otherwise cost megabucks.

I believe the temperature in Nigeria today was 28c!So I can understand the choice of lightweight clothing.I’m just wondering if the black and white dress was too revealing! The slit up the front, nearly had her loosing her dignity,as seen on another site.
The red dress is gorgeous.I love the movement of the base of the dress.
The white tube dress, again I know there are other options that would have been better suited. This looks like something you pull on at the beach.
The CH yellow dress is nice,it’s a beautiful shade of yellow. But it swaps her tiny frame.
As the saying goes,it wouldn’t do for us all to like the same thing. How boring that would make us all! Each to there own,is how it should be.

Meghan’s outfits were pretty, appropriate and most importantly, comfortable for her. Harry did not skip a beat with his well suited lovely linen outfits.

Beautiful outfits all, as usual, Megan's style is clean and modern.

I am always amazed when there are very strong comments on this column about what someone thinks is appropriate in which culture. For example, Nigeria is a country of dozens of different tribes, different religions and styles, where everyone dresses according to their own tastes and the cultures they represent. There is no one right way to dress. Some hide behind veils, others dress very revealingly. Every bodys style is accepted as it is. -Siri

  30. I can only echo what many others have already said. Meghan's clothes are elegant and simple (in the good way). But that said, throughout this tour, she has shown too much skin. Yes, it's hot, but she could wear light fabrics with short sleeves. You do not see the other women around her showing their bare arms and shoulders. Her wardrobe would be fine if she was in a European country, for example, but not fitting for Nigeria where there is so much poverty and a conservative culture..
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, knows how to dress for such a tour -- royally, but suited to the country and culture.

You do realise we have photos of Q Elisabeth in Nigeria in 1956 with bare arms, bare shoulders, and showing more cleavage then Meghan? And we also have photos of Diana in Nigeria in 1990 doing the same. The nonsense we see when it comes to Meghan is pathetic.

Anonymous 15:49, you simply cannot compare evening wear to day wear. Both the late princess of Wales and the late Queen were properly attired during the day time, and similarly dressed to the ladies in their presence. Meghan here stands out with her lack of bring dressed for the occasion. But then again, since Harry and Meghan were not representing his majesty’s government and we are unfamiliar with private tours, so perhaps her dressing is suited. But you have to admit, her clothing have been way too revealing for a tour, even here in Europe.

Sorry, but speaking honestly anyone seeing Meghan in the red spaghetti-strap dress surrounded by beautifully but modestly dressed Nigerian women will have an impression of cringe-worthy sartorial tone-deafness on the part of the lady in red. As others have said: lovely dress, wrong occasion. Most of the duchess’s choices on this trip have been lovely on her but more appropriate for the Caribbean. The white cotton blouse worn with the blue Nigerian skirt was perfect.

So sorry she couldn't dress accordingly, right?
