Maxima looks lovely in that colour and hat. I do like Letizia s dress, the style and colour... But not the thing on her head... Sorry for calling it a thing, but it is sure not a hat. Maybe pretzel gone bad.

Maxima and Letizia both looked wonderful in red and green, respectively. I love Maxima's brooch and Letizia's earrings. Louise

These are such joyful photos. Q. Max is her fabulous, maximal self with this monochrome extravaganza accessorized with spectacular diamond jewelry. And Q. Letitia’s tweed ensemble with the emerald earrings is gorgeous too - lovely colour, excellent fit, with cape sleeves for a bit of drama. I think a larger green hat would have had more impact, but that’s a minor quibble. (V.M.)

    1. Totally agree with you. Wonderful to see Queen Letizia with a fascinator at least although I agree that a larger hat would have looked better. I love her green outfit. Queen Maxima looks superb in red though I think a less stiff fabric would have improved the skirt. Fantastic.

  4. So unusual to see Letizia wear anything that resembles a hat.
Whatever it is, it's rather unusual.
On a positive note I love the color of her dress.
The fabric of Maxima' s skirt is too stiff and shiny so I bet it's Natan.

They are both lovely and stylish. Each in their own way. Queen Letizia's headpiece is looking a bit like Queen Mathilde's yesterday. Queen Maxima in a repeated outfit, I think. But still very elegant. Both ladies are wearing gloves, like ladies do. Love Queen Maxima's brooch, a diamond "libel" (don't know the name of the insect in English). Anyone ?

Thx. V.M. that is what I thought yesterday. Today on the Dutch sites I read it is simply a "mot" (don't know names of insects in English).

Queen Letizia´s tweed dress is very interesting with the cape like sleeves. Pretty spring colour and I like the belt and bag. What I don´t like is the hat. Not enough hat to go with the tweed and the colour is also too pale for this.
Not too fond of Queen Maxima´s skirt. The stiff shiny fabric makes it very dominating although the hat helps to balance the look.

  8. Another state visit underway, I couldn't be more excited. Starting with Queen Maxima I love the dark red color of her ensemble, very regal. The only thing I critique are the gloves. Her top already has long sleeves, the gloves just look messy. Now for Queen Letizia I absolutely adore her haircut it suits her. I love the style of her sleeves and the color of her dress. If they nailed their mornings looks, tonight's state banquet looks very promising!

On state visits royal ladies wear gloves, except in a very hot climate, which is not (yet) the case in the BENELUX. Even Queen Letizia is wearing gloves, which she doesn't in Spain where the climate is almost all the year warmer than in The Netherlands.

The shape of Letizia’s hat reminds me of a neck pillow people use on airplane flights. Other than the hat, both ladies look lovely. I like the slit sleeves on Letizia’s dress which add interest.

The headpiece colour makes sense. There is a photo where QL is wearing the same colour cape which coordinates with her shoes. QM well she always brings a beautiful smile and looks gorgeous. Not a fan of the oversized hat but none the less it is an outfit only she can wear.

I agree with all who say that both ladies look fab. They each have their own unique signature styles and have shown us stunning examples of both this morning, hats and head-pieces included. Very nice indeed.

For me Maxima clothing it's overall a bit too much red: Gloves, shoes, hat, bag, dress. Maxima is already very tall and the skirt of this dress ( too long imv) makes her huge. Love Letizia's outfit in tweed. Very good material in rainy and cold Amsterdam

I like Letizia's dress. No hat. Maxima's hat is too big - rather suitable for the prairie, so that the hot sun does not burn the face.

Both women look spectacular. Máxima in deep red with a nice hat and gloves. Letizia in green with a hat and gloves. Letizia’s hat looks like a sea slug to me.

On occasions like this Queen Letizia would have looked amazing in heeled pumps. The dress is pretty, not sure about the head piece.
Maxima comes out punching!True to form, big hat and probably a Natan dress. It looks quite stiff. No fluidity to it.
Looking forward to seeing what gems the ladies wear tonight. Lowri.

When everybody make jokes about Queen Letizia's headpiece, I can understand that she don't like to wear a hat or something else on her head. This type of headpiece was fashion in the 50-s, even brides wore it in white the little veil included. You see in fashion everything is coming back regularly : the Dior style of the 50-s (the wide skirt with much fabric), the Marlene or Palazzo pants, stiletto's, block heels, midi skirts or midi dresses, mini skirts, shorts and capri's, etc...

  22. Both Kings look fine and matching, the queens are as expected. Both hats are a fail for me. I don't care for Maxima's monochromatic look and the too shiny skirt. Leticia's look is more subdued and elegant. Nice jewelry, even the big insect one.

Letizia's dress is gorgeous. I love the cape/sleeve combination and the lovely green tweed fabric. However, I don't like the hat. The colour and the odd shape are unattractive and don't go well with the dress.

  26. Love QL`s outfit, very fashion forward, the headpiece which is something she rarely wears (and I think actually draws attention to her beautiful hair) picks out the fleck in the tweed and matches her shoes and gloves giving a balance that is sadly lacking in QM`s outfit. Here the monochrome is too much, too many different materials, the hat is ridiculous and so out of date, just smacks of attention seeking. KP and KWA both look very dapper - KF and PD should take note.

QM's hat is not out of date, it is new. Queen Maxima is wearing this type of hat since a long time, maybe she likes them. They became her trademark. Why would she wear a hat like this to seek attention ? Even without a hat and without gloves she gets enough attention. She is tall, everybody can see her. She is waving and smiling at people and everybody is waving and smiling back, so what is the problem ?

Letizia's hat feels very retro to me. It is not unlike a hat you would see in an old movie. I don't understand the hat logic. A hat adorned with flowers that are dyed in colors that are not found in nature, or has feathers spraying about, is in good taste, but a hat in a unique shape is a bad hat? I admit I will never understand hats.

The fabric of Maxima's skirt, ruined the look. Letizia's fat lizard, must have fallen out of its enclosure onto her head just as she was leaving for the day. Terrible hat, the outfit with cape was rather plain, with dull colours.

Maxima's overall dress is ordinary and not special enough. This is how she usually dresses, not impressive at all.
