Crown Princess Victoria wore a white and blue polka dot midi dress by H&M. Instrument of Government by the Riksdag

On March 6, 2024, King Carl Gustaf and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden attended an anniversary seminar held at the Swedish Parliament on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the adopted Instrument of Government by the Riksdag. Sweden’s new and current Instrument of Government was announced by the Riksdag on 6 March 1974. In the new Instrument of Government, the King is still head of state, but no longer has any political power; his role is entirely ceremonial.

Victorias Stil in Bezug auf Frisur und Kleidung ist einfach nicht schick!

This is a decent fairly boring too long dress. Makes her look like a grandmother together with the always decent bun on her head. I once saw this beautiful picture of Victoria in a gala dress with long curly hair. She looked gorgeous

Totally agreee! Just like Rapunzel...she needs to let down her hair.
I too have seen pics from the past, beautiful hair. It is rather puzzling.

      I think I remember that Anon 1837.
She looked younger and her face softer.
Victoria would no doubt have a hairdresser at her disposal so she could style it with a bit of variety as do the other royal ladies.

A sober dress for a sober occasion. No frills or fancy; just functional.

This boring dress makes her look older than she is. Compared to this, I prefer her in one of her pant suits. I thought we would not see this kind of flower dresses anymore. They are completely out of fashion.

-Dorothe-

Good look for this event. css

  10. Neat and tidy but still wrong. Not flattering, not suited for her age, not suited for the occasion, not suited for the season.
The lady in the business suit got it right. That´s how I would dress for this occasion, too.

Couldn’t agree more. One more time, she should actually get some advice from her mum. Would serve her well.

The constant sartorial bashing of Princess Victoria, including her hairdo, is not very constructive and increasingly boring. Her dress is not very exciting but appropriate, feminine and pretty nonetheless. To me it is the Laura Ashley look that young women and even teenagers used to fancy and has nothing to do with grandmothers, whatever that means.

"Granny style" = offensive language of those who lack a vocabulary to designate things they don't fancy.

The first word that entered my had was “ granny”, but now I am not longer allowed to use it, so : dress without cut nor design.

Being a granny myself I call it also granny style and you know why, because my two grannies were dressed like that and also my mother when she was getting older. I never wore these dresses fashion or not fashion because they make me look 10 years older than my real age.
Signed : a not offended granny

    4. Calling her look "granny style" is neither offensive nor bashing. It´s descriptive, and in my view very fitting. It is also constructive as most comments make alternative suggestions and remark on what not to wear unless you want to look like a granny.
It is not the job of fellow readers to entertain you. If you don´t like to read these comments, then don´t.
Also, it is perfectly possible to fancy the dress as such (and some readers are in fact grannies themselves!) but still find it wrong on a princess in her forties.
In my opinion, this very dress would be fine in a different context and on a different wearer, say on Camilla for a garden party.

@Virginia. "Laura Ashley" ? That is ages ago. In the seventies some flower power hippies (with money) bought the Laura Ashley fabrics in a boutique not far from my working address in Brussels, which sold these fabrics and also clothes for pregnant women and children. Colleagues of mine bought these fabrics sometimes to make curtains and bed linen for baby rooms. Never bought it myself, because it was not my style.

This dress doesn’t do Victoria any favours, regardless of the epithets one wishes to add. As a (very recent) granny myself - I agree with Vanessa, some styles feel better suited for a certain age. For me and my body type, this dress wouldn’t work at any age.

Back to Victoria, it would serve her well to ask her mum for advice. Queen Silvia is so elegant on a regular basis and understands her body.

Nice dress--simple style and look which are perfect for the solemn occasion. Victoria has a serious role and it means that fashion is not always going to be a focus for her. She will be a queen regnant and I think she tries on occasion to communicate her seriousness about her future with what she chooses to wear. By the way--she looks quite nice here and her choice fits in well with the lady who is also featured in some of the photos.

    1. Princess Victoria is participating in an important Parliamentary event.
I imagine choosing appropriate attire for a woman to wear for an occasion like this mustn't be easy.
The other lady in the photo appears to be wearing an all black ensemble and the men dark suits.
From the photos we have available to us, Princess Victoria seems to be the only person presenting a “pop of colour”, albeit sombre, to the occasion.
Given the handicaps, I think she has well chosen her outfit.

p.s. love the way her father always seem to be training his little chicken to leave the nest. Heart warming ..... no?

No, not heart warming, just his job.

A good idea not showing a photo in the coat it didn't help the look. This is a big miss from Victoria. Her hole look reminds me of what we do when we are short of time , just grabbed something throw it on, put the hair in a bad bun and ran out the door.

Does a Crown Princess have an obligation to be on the cutting edge of fashion? Is this in the job description? Or are we being harsh and unrealistic to expect perfection of these women in - admittedly highly privileged! - public roles? Victoria is systematically utterly neat, fresh, clean, well groomed - isn’t that all any of us need be on the best day? Do commenters who post comments which would definitely feel awful for any of us to read about ourselves hold the same standards every day in their lives? Let’s be kind; let’s assume that the person we are commenting on (or worse, their children) might stumble across this blog, and make sure we will not hurt their feelings if they do. - AnneLise

I think Crown Princess Victoria should look more to her mother. Do you see wearing Queen Silvia this style of dress ? No, because she knows that such dresses make you look old. It is not that the CP does not have beautiful jackets and skirts or dresses, but this one no, I must be honest I don't like it all. If this meeting is that serious, she should have known that she must be dressed in a dark color i.e. a dark skirt and a little jacket or a dark dress (like burgundy, dark bottle green, .....). I suppose she can count on the help of a personal assistant among her staff. Ask her to prepare some dark outfits for the day after and then choose one of them.
@ AnneLise. All the bad things that already have been said here on Queens and Crown Princesses and Princesses or Duchess in general could have hurt them or their children. That is unfortunately the price you pay when you are a public person. As long as the critics are about clothes, it is not a disaster. The critics some of them can read about their mind and body can hurt someone's feelings very deeply and also the feelings of their children. I think they must have skills how to coop with that and are trained to protect themselves from their young age on, otherwise a lot of royals would become psychic patients.
