King Harald V of Norway has returned to Oslo after falling ill while on holiday in Malaysia. King Harald of Norway was flown back home on a medical plane with Queen Sonja, at his side. The King is now being treated at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet where he is expected to spend several days. Today, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Ingrid Alexandra visited King Harald at Rikshospitalet.

Sending my wishes to the King for a quick recovery!
ردحذفMay Allah SWT keep King Harald safe and bless a full recovery.
ردحذفWishing King Harald all the best wishes, as well as prayers for a speedy and full recovery.

He is increasingly frail and this latest heart scare didn't sound great. Prayers for a speedy recovery
ردحذفhe knows he is not well and yet decided to go on holiday miles away from home in extreme weather from winter to hot tropical climate
حذفAnon 08.29, agree not the smartest move
حذفWell, I imagine the idea was to go to a warmer climate precisely because the long and cold Norwegian winter is harsh on an older person who frequently catches infections.
حذفIm sure, although there are warmer climates closer to home in case one gets an infection anyway
حذفAs a Norwegian I would appreciate it if we could stop this. Where the King goes on holiday is up to him and his doctor. Not people in a commentary field.
حذفWarmer climates closer to home wouldn't have provided any privacy for them as other Norwegians/scandinavians also travel to those places. Wouldn't really have been a relaxing holiday that way if everyone you meet recognize you and know who you are.
حذفAnon 19:30 it is not up to us, although we are allowed to have an oppinion and share it. As one would expect, since he is a public person.
حذفWish the King a speedy recovery. Maybe he should step back from Duty a bit more. css
ردحذفNope.
حذفEven worse, this was apperently a vacation
حذفWishing the King a speedy recovery. Sending best wishes.
ردحذفBest wishes and prayers for the King’s fast recovery 🙏 He is a wonderful monarch.
ردحذفTous mes voeux de prompt rétablissement et surtout qu'il se ménage !
ردحذفSorry to hear the King is ill again, hope nothing too serious and he will recover shortly. Best wishes to him.
ردحذفA.
He had a pacemaker inserted due to low heart rate while on holiday in Asia. He is now in stable condition, resting and recovering with steady improvement at a hospital in Oslo according to recent published reports.

@Anon 9:13
حذفThanks for the details ;-) glad to hear he’s in a stable condition. All the best to the great King !
Sending best wishes to a wonderful king H!
ردحذف👍🙏
حذفI can confirm that very long trips, by train or plane, have an underestimated effect on the body, even on a healthy and much younger one, so that the outcome of this holiday does not surprise me and makes me wonder why this wonderful king was not given better advice.

There's no need to infantilize a 87 year old, even if he is the King or not. Being a royal may put you in a golden cage, but he's not in jail, and he has every right to travel wherever he wants, regardless of what advice he is given.
حذف@Anon 20:42 Exactly. They are old and wise enough to make their own decisions, and I'm pretty sure that being who they are, their decision to travel where they did was carefully considered. I've seen videos and photos of the resort they were at and it is stunning! Well over 5 star, and with all the comforts and considerations that would meet his mobility and medical needs. It's unfortunate that he was taken ill while he was there, but I'm happy that he is trying to enjoy the best of life.

I fully agree about the point made by Virginia on underestimated effects of long distance travelling. Yes surely the king & queen can take their own decisions, but it is always good to take into consideration excessive risks. In the case of the king, they are multiplied by a xxx-factor, bearing in mind all the recent health problems he had to face. I wonder whether he is presently satisfied about the decision he took.
حذفBeyond his own comfort, it is also not bad to think about all the trouble he is giving to health professionals, at both places, be it in favor of a royal patient. Time and strength which cannot be devoted to other patients. (I will surely be criticized for these thoughts, but ...) I have seen on many occasions how elderly patients behave in a selfish way, particularly in a hospital. Forgive me to be so far away from fashion comments and sorry towards the Norwegian bloggers here.
Mary, isn't it a bit selfish to demand that people should stop living their lives just because their old? How ageist of you. Discrimination is not a good look.
حذفAn. 17:49 You are misunderstanding my point. The trip was appropriate and supposedly enjoyable for Qn Sonia, who is the same age (almost). But an hasardous choice for the King bearing in mind his health problems over the last (let's up that way without precise dates). That makes the issue totally different. So it NOT because he is getting old, but because he is getting excessively fragile, that makes a real difference. Nothing to do with ageism, but with health situation. I really wish all elderly people in adequate health conditions to enjoy all the trips they are dreaming of. Go on living for them. By the way, I am working as volunteer to provide suitable activities for retired people. Awareness is constructive.
حذفMary, it's not really that different. Everyone should do as they please, even if they're risking their health. That's their own choice. You're literally saying that people should stay chained to their homes instead of living their lives to the fullest. King Harald is still a free man.
حذفThe King and Queen are 87/86 and still working, during their holidays they should be allowed to go wherever they want to go. Has anyone thought that maybe they have some places they would still like to see and if not now, when?
ردحذفOkay, this trip ended badly, but you know what, sometimes much younger people get sick on holiday and sometimes elderly people go on holiday and it's just fine...
👏👏👏
حذفYes 22:48 holidays of young people can also end badly, surely. Some of them die during their holidays, often because of excessive risks one way or another. I know about parents who had to wait months before knowing what had happened to their daugther in Peru.
حذفYou are so right. They are still working at their age, admirable to see how they are committed to the causes and their country, sometimes the King goes out on duty with a stick. The King and the Queen deserve more than everyone else some happy time privately on holidays and enjoy the most of their life. Wish them the very best and many more happy time. Hope he will recover quickly.

Interesting, Although there were numerous Anonymous etc. contributions above with more or less the same thoughts as mine, there was no critical reaction, yet I am accused of encroaching upon the personal life of King Harald, which I am not. My observations are based on numerous MEDICAL histories among my acquaintances, friends and family.

As you have the right to! Also, we have read about several health issues he has had thoughout the years. He is a public person, any comments shouldn’t come as a suprise.
حذفEverybody is free to decide for himself what to do or not.
ردحذفI just remember King Baudouin who was a heart patient and went on holiday in his own villa "Astrida" in Motril Spain. He came back in a coffin.
Hope for a speedy recovery. css
ردحذفI see a lot people here are gonna stop travelling when they are 75, 80 or as soon as they get a illness...Good luck with that.
