Nice to see them all together. The gowns are very nice. Sofias gown maybe new, don't seem to have seen it before. I also like the light blue gown of Mrs Macron. Understated elegance. Wonder why Brigitte Macron did not wear the Order? Glitz and glamour we are in need of it. What else is there to be right now? css

  3. I really like Victoria´s gown, both by itself and I think it is actually enhanced by the blue sash which adds some needed colour.
The red sash on Silvia´s magenta gown on the other hand hurts my eyes.
Likewise, Sofia´s golden gown (which already washes her out) is not a good choice for the lightblue Swedish sash she knew she´d wear. It´s one of the best sashes around when it comes to colour compatibility, but this must be one of the few colours that don´t work.
Madame Macron looks nice. I like her updo - it makes her look more balanced and less top-heavy.

Spot on comments, Vanessa! I always wonder how it comes that so often sashes colourwise don't go together with the colour of the gown while all royal ladies know upfront which sash they'll have to wear on which occasion.

  5. Wow! What a stunning collection. Queen Silvia more than makes amends for today's strange dress with this gorgeous rich gown. I love Princess Sofia's champagne coloured gown with it's slimline shirt shape but I think CP Victoria's silver dress is beautiful too. Mme macron looks smart--she always does---but just cant compete with the Swedish ladies tonight. Fabulous.

Dommage. Sophie

Queen Silvia: Lovely gown in a very flattering color
First Lady: Lovely dress, but seems to be better suited for a more casual event. Also, is she wearing black heels? Hoping it’s just the shadows in the photo.
CP Victoria: That tiara is a showstopper!! Love the beautiful fabric and draping on the gown and the brighter blue sash looks fantastic against the fabric.
P Sofia: The cut is nice but the color completely washes her out.

Maybe, in consideration of their guests, the Swedes should not have worn their tiaras? It seems a bit unmannerly to pull out the “big gun” in front Monsieur le Président de la République”.
All the gowns were quite beautiful. Mrs Macron’s was very elegant and chic. I’m glad she reduced the size of her hair. Silvia was on her game. She looks so good in jewel tones.

It’s a normal tradition for state visits to bring out the big jewels; it’s an honour for the visitors and also to honour them. It’s not about finding a common dress level!, and nothing is a surprise, all is exceedingly well communicated and planned out, so the Macrons will not have been surprised by the tiaras, sashes, medals and glamour. - AnneLise

    2. I agree with you @Anon 05:22.
I think the royals could tone it down a bit with the crown jewels when the invited guest/s don't have a centuries old vault full of diamonds and precious stones.
A bit like saying, look what we’ve got and you haven't got.

There are countries were the royals do not bring out their biggest tiara and jewelry when a president and his wife comes to their country for a state visit. Apparently in Sweden it is not the case. What I do not like in any country - and I know it is tradition and protocol - are the large amount of orders, medals and decorations. It ruins the beauty of the gala dresses worn by the royal ladies...

Both the Cameo tiara and the cut-steel tiara are originally french and came to Sweden from France with Queen Josephine, granddaughter of Empress Josephine. I think they are worn as a curtsey and to show the french roots of the Bernadotte family. These two tiaras are not big guns but historically very interesting and important.

    5. Anonymous31/1/24 16:11

One should know that the tiara Queen Silvia wears is the Cameo Tiara, if anything a nod to the french guests. It once belonged to Josephine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte.
There is actually thoughtprocess in all presented that evening, not just for the purposes of glitz and glam.

Dear Asa, I have read somewhere that Queen Silvia’s elaborate evening gowns, especially those worn for the Nobel Events, are in fact made in France and are definitely not low-budget creations. You can tell that Queen Silvia is wearing a very intricate dress by looking at the details. I agree with Sophie, Madame Macron’s elegant ensemble looks somewhat masculine because of the unflattering waistline.

Mrs M- She has a style she feels comfortable in and it works for her. This dress is no exception. The ice blue with the crystal embellishments is lovely. Bea

Mme Macron´s Louis Vuittone dress is fabulous. Queen Silvia looks good and I like the rewear HM dress of crown princess Victoria were very much. The cameo tiara worn by the Queen came to Sweden via Napoleon´s wife Empress Josephine. At that time Sweden elected a french officer, Jean Baptist Bernadotte, to become king Karl Johan XIV. The cut-steel tiara worn by the CP is from this era but the origins are not fully know, Both tiaras are a very nice nod to the French guests.

On the occasion of the state visit, H.M. The King has appointed H.E. President Emmanuel Macron as a Knight of the Royal Order of the Seraphim. Mrs. Brigitte Macron has simultaneously been awarded the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of the North Star.
Ahead of the French state visit to Sweden, the President of France has appointed the Crown Princess as a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour. The Crown Princess already holds the Grand Cross of the National Order of Merit.
Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, and Princess Sofia were also appointed as Grand Officers of the Legion of Honour during the state visit.

  24. I don’t remember ever seeing Madame Macron in an outfit that isn’t of monochrome colour and/or mix.
No flowers, no frills. No big bows or cabbages on the shoulder. No uneven hems.
Simple, pure lines that help build up the “chic” good taste look.
And each time I see her dressed up, I remember the quote of Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor, who lived in Paris for about 30 years.
“A woman can never be too rich or too thin”.
Mme Macron is also a champion with “trendy chic” when she dresses down.
Example, jeans, sport trainers topped off with an expensive, top brand blazer or jacket.
She shows us that Chic = Simplicity.
A conservative taste with jewellery. Nothing flashy.
All in all, very, very French.

The Queen; beautiful in her gown and the tiara.

CP Victoria; gorgeous in the metallic embroidered gown. The tiara is a perfect fit with the gown which she wore in 2016 I believe.

Sophie's gown is too pale, washes out her complexion, and the odd thing, why is she wearing the stacked soled shoes from years ago. They looked odd then, and look even odder now (photo 7). Saw photos of them close up on another website, it was not a good look. The colour of her gown varied, in different photos, due to lighting/camera's perhaps. Maybe it was more lovely in person.

Brigitte; Gown needs to be properly fitted. It is clearly too big around the waistline, and is a re-ware. The blue colour is nice, as are the embellishments around the neck, waist, and down the front. In photo 3, it appears as if she is wearing support stockings (thicker) rather than regular stockings, which would have appeared more normal and fit for the occasion. However, with her age, standing a great deal, she might have worn them for comfort (photo 5).

The lady with the black and white dress was stunning, would have loved to see the front of the gown (photo 4)

I think Mme Macron’s gown is perfect the way it was tailored to her frame. The waist is slightly lowered to sit high on her hips. This was no accident. This is design. Sophia’s gown gave a slight Hollywood Oscar night vibe. The fabric looks rich, but the color doesn’t suit her. I like the fabric of Victoria’s gown but I do not like her partly antlers.

I've never been a fan of the Steel Cut tiara but I think it goes well with the dress. Not great, but okay.

I also think this is one of Sophia's better looks.

Silvia? Eh. Not bad, but not really thrilling either.

As for Brigitte, I agree with those who say the fit is off/wrong. Whenever you are wearing a dress (formal or casual) with a boarder, or band, or embellishment at the waist it needs to be defined or sinched. Otherwise you just end up looking boxy and that is what's happening to Brigitte here. Brigitte is not a large woman with a lot of girth, but this dress is making her look shapeless. Why?! She's the wife of the president of France - the fashion capital of the world! If she can't get good tailoring ... I think that's one of the signs of the apocalypse. :0

Dear Anne Lise, Your clarification is excellent. Of course all the state visits in Europe’s monarchies are governed by intricate protocol and tradition and every detail is pre-planned. The Swedish monarchy is the French House of Bernadotte so that this particular state visit from France was extremely
significant. Mrs. Macron’s blue gown probably reflects the colours of the Swedish flag.

  30. It would have been so nice to see Princess Sofia in the Napoleonic Steel Cut Bandeau. Would have complemented the dress as well and another nod to the distinguished guests. As for Madame Macron, I think her dress might be a tad too wide. She always goes for the slim, sheath style dresses, and while they clearly suit her, I wish to see her in a different silhouette for once.
