  1. Bien jolie en tenue militaire aussi bien qu'en civil ; je suis heureuse que ses cheveux aient gardé leur longueur coiffés d'un chignon bas !

Very serious young kids; I wish them all the best and to make some friends for life too. In terms of fashion/function I worry that those sun hats are not broad enough brimmed to actually protect most of their faces from the hot Spanish sun! If you’re going to wear a sun hat, make it briadbrimmed to protect the full face, eh! - AnneLise

    1. Well, the hats serve a purpose. It is not like a sunhat you would use for a day at the beach tourist-y style. The soldiers need to be able to have good and unobstructed view as well. So, the brim is quite right; nothing wrong with it.

  3. A pretty girl with surely many other qualities, who just turned a page of her young life. We are reassured about her hair, so far so good. What strikes me on these classroom pictures is the very small size of the students' notebooks. I never followed any army course so maybe normal that I don't have any clue about it. Good luck to you, Leonor.

I’m guessing the notebook needs to fit in a pocket of the fatigues, but I never served in the military either, so I could be wrong.

Mary T, I don't think WE were concerned about her hair. I think YOU are the one that is concerned. It is common for women to put their hair in a bun when in the military or when working as police officers.

I think this will do her very well. All the best with your studies to the future Queen of Spain.

She exudates beauty, class and grace even through her army uniform.
She already seems to have adjusted to the discipline rules.
Of course, I think her father, family and palace staff have already briefed (not the exact word, though) her on what she is expected to do at the General Military Academy in Zaragozza.
Discipline is at the very basis of her service and training in all of the three corps.
    Not for everybody.
    Well done!
Wishing you all the best , Princess Leonor!!
    Tough girl👍👍👏👏👏👏

Oh, thank you so much , Ava.
      Nice of you.
You know, I am quite direct on this blog and I am too when on duty and under certain circumstances.
I am kinda of forced to use words which are not specific (my job microlanguage is different because it is too technical and could not be easily understood).
BUT I have a right to expect that everyday spoken English should be at least caught by all these @Anonymous comments so funnily signed at different times.
      Another basic consideration is discipline.
When one enters a Military Academy/ Aviation Centre, he/ she is expected to obey orders and adjust to the rules.
One cannot be controversial in any respect towards instructors and higher rank officers in general.
@Anonymous (with all her signatures) is quite lucky to be on this blog and allowed to say as many platitudes as possibile.
If she had ever entered a military Academy / Aviation Centre, this type of behaviour would have never been tolerated.
She would have been simply escorted ...to the exit...in the end ...
or told to quit the service/ job as soon as possibile.
Same applies on planes on some occasions.
Cabin crew is in charge of the passengers' wellbeing throughout a flight to begin with, they are hugely responsible for the passengers' safety and they have to be kind and patient all the time as a general rule.
Anyway, on certain particular occasions, cabin crew is allowed or must - I'd better say- escort to the exit and call for external support when there are people showing strange/strongly controversial attitudes or other behavioural issues which cannot be kept under (strict) control on planes.
      I'm generally speaking, of course.
I'm using a basic vocabulary to be as clear as possibile to all other fellow- bloggers, especially @ Anonymous😁
      Hugs for you, Ava.

Oh, thank you so much , Ava.
      Nice of you.
Fact Is that when entering any Military Academy/ Aviation Centre, discipline and rules are at the very basis of any kind of training and service.
One has to adjust to it.
Shortly and as a general rule:
controversial positions and major behavioural problems are not tolerated in any of the Military Corps and one who does not obey orders coming from higher rank officers or instructors could be ...even escorted to the exit.
This might also happen to passengers' with major behavioural issues interfering with safety procedures onboard.
Cabin crew has to report immediately and even ask for external support any time.
Passengers which cannot be kept under control onboard are escorted to the exit and other procedures are applied on some occasions.

  7. Her uniform features a name tag that reads "Borbón Ortiz."

Spain's royal family is of the House of Bourbon, providing the first surname used by Princess Leonor. Ortiz comes from Queen Letizia's side of the family, as she was born Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano. In Spain and Spanish American countries (except Argentina) people traditionally have two surnames: the first from the father and the second from the mother.

@missy When you copy something word for word (plagerism), you are supposed to give credit to the original source. Maybe you forgot?

      @Anonymous 19/8/23 20:14
This is not plagerism, this is common knowledge. It is something everybody with a good general education knows. Maybe Missy thought she could learn us something, but I'm sure that most of the bloggers are aware of this Spanish tradition. If you look for a house where Spanish people are living in my street, it is not difficult to find out they almost all have double surnames on their postal box. Rose

Ah, just as I and others thought: 'Military' means army, navy and airforce training combined, therefore 3 years for all three, like my brother-in-law did. Lenore looks good with her hair pulled tightly back as required in these circumstances. Best wishes to her in her studies and training.

A silly question perhaps but will Infanta Sofia also be required to undergo military training or is it just for Princess Leonor?
Leonor seems to be a lovely and intelligent young woman and her parents must be so proud of her!

My thought is no, nor for Sofia. Leonor is enrolled in military training because she is the future monarch.

    2. Anonymous21/8/23 19:40

I always wonder why that is. What if Leonor - and heavens forbid this should be the case - can't take over from her dad? Or decides she doesn't want to in the end? Wouldn't it make sense to have both girls get the same education? It's very unlikely and I guess Sofía will eventually lead her own life outside of the court, but it always struck me as odd to have a "spare" and not treat them equally.

And you often have to deal with a world that seems to forget that you exist! I remember all the school desks being "right-handed" in school (maybe there would be one left-handed desk in a classroom - somewhere on campus... maybe), etc. :-/
