On July 18, 2023, Princess Anne visited the Jersey Zoological Park. Jersey Zoo is a zoological park established in 1959 on the island of Jersey in the English Channel by naturalist and writer Gerald Durrell. The Princess officially opened the Tortoise Tunnel at Jersey Zoo, a brand-new state of the art enclosure for four giant Aldabra tortoises.
The charity has been working with Aldabra tortoises for many years in their island restoration programme in Mauritius, helping to restore vital ecosystems that have been lost due to the extinction of native tortoises. The Princess has been Patron of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust since 1972.
I thought we saw all her old fashion clothes by now, but no she managed to surprise me with something I never saw before. Is it cold in the U.K. ? I don't think so when I look at the lady in picture N° 5 she is wearing a summer dress, a white blazer, white shoes. But Ann must wear a blouse high closed under the chin, black gloves (later she took them off), black or navy accessories, black shoes not speak about her outfit. This time she cannot get away with being dressed classic and with style. It has no style. I think it must be a hobby of her looking back on old pictures : "what did I wear then ?" and go to her closet to find it.
ReplyDeleteshe adapted her certain style from her late mother Queen Elizabeth, the coat is made with light fabric suitable for warm weather.
DeleteNeedless to say we are experiencing spring weather with lots of rain while the rest of Europe is in a heat wave.
The late Queen Elisabeth was always beautifully dressed when she was a young queen and later when she was older and let's say the last 10 years of her life she was dressed adapted to her age but always in bright and light colors and her wonderful hats adapted to her outfits. She regularly wore new coats and dresses adapted to the season, which cannot be said from Anne. Queen Elisabeth looked sometimes younger dressed than her daughter. Lucky Zara Tindall does not (yet) copy her mother and I hope she never will. Not all the European countries have a tropical summer. Benelux, a part of Germany, the Northern part of France, Scandinavia we all have t° between 18-23 degrees Celsius, and regularly rainfall. The weather cannot be used as an excuse. No, to me Anne's clothes were maybe stylish when they were new and I'm sure of good quality but she cannot hide that her whole wardrobe, accessories included are almost from another era.
DeleteI just love this outfit, the ensemble is beautiful. The coat, excellent quality, fits beautiful, love the color. The silk blouse looks to be a shade of green gorgeous! As is the green skirt. This jacket maybe a rewear, brilliant. Love the addition of her brooch, lovely touch.
ReplyDeleteEnglish summer is very cold?
ReplyDeleteThis year, yes. And wet. It’s been miserable especially when we watch enviously our European neighbours basking in glorious sunshine. I think Princess Anne’s coat is made of a light material and ye it is certainly repurposed from years ago

It can sound quite condescending, even hurtful, to comment on why exactly Anne chooses what she chooses when others do it differently. The Princess is the living proof that sustainability and independence from the fashion industry is doable, she practises it daily and she has my highest respect for daring to be different. Her bodily temperature regulation is also none of our business. For me, this is a pretty feminine jacket with good colour coordination and ignoring fashionable skirt length is a plus anyway.

Couldnot agree more!
DeleteMabel
Perfectly said, GM! Princess Anne does not follow fashion trends and sticks to things that are classics--not to mention well-tailored and bespoke. I realize this is a fashion site but I feel there are some people who only see the trendy area of fashion and ignore what any designer would consider elegant classics. JP
DeleteThis is at least the 5th time we have seen this outfit since 2007.
ReplyDeletePrincess Anne is certainly the ultimate royal recycler.
What I can say is “it’s different”.
ReplyDeleteFor the rest, I’ll have to phone in.
Deadeggs, i just called, the line was busy, can we catch up later?
DeleteLuna
Sorry Luna. Was probably gossiping on the phone.

Anon 12:53, I agree completely. This is just a very, very oldfashion outfit, nothing more to say.
DeleteI don’t really like this outfit, however it is neat and respectable. But I certainly like the fact that she has her own mind on how she dresses. And I do appreciate she still rewairs items from a long time ago even if they are not on trend.
ReplyDeleteLove how she cares not one fig about new fashion trends. She stoically does her own thing. Weather was a bit of a mixed bag on the Channel Islands, wind, clouds, and sunshine in between. So, not too summery and hot in that particular place of Europe.
ReplyDeleteDear Jacqueline, I think there is a difference between Princess Anne and Queen Camilla. Princess Anne is respected for her documented hard work. We can all see that she is frugal. Her living room (rural living) is simply furnished, check the internet, it is all there. However, as she always well-dressed, there is nothing to criticise. She is the Princess Royal and not the Queen Consort. Furthermore, she probably lives on a tight budget, her estate is expensive to run. Queen Camilla has a completely different role, certainly much better funding, and expectations are of course much higher. She represents the Crown and the sartorial pressure
ReplyDeleteis part of her elevated status, which means that she will be criticised and praised.

Dear Virginia, I agree with your comment, there is a difference between Princess Royale and Queen Camilla, I did not criticize Princess Anne for being frugal, what I meant in my post is that I am surprised that negative comments about Princess Anne are not welcome and whereas comments about Queen Camilla are frequent. (sorry about poor English)

I just love this woman so much that it’s hard to imagine her clothes (and wraparound sunglasses) as anything but this! Giggling just thinking about her showing up wearing one of the outfits that Kate wore to Wimbledon and a blowout with her hair worn down 🤣 She would look great but it’s just not her vibe.
ReplyDeleteDear Jacqueline, Your English is much better than you think. My impression is slightly different. There is criticism regarding Princess Anne’s hair and sometimes other aspects, but then with her „minor“ role, we are perhaps more lenient. I remarked the other day that her shoes were terribly dated, nobody objected.

Princess Anne always looks wonderful in any outfit, with any shoes, and any hairstyle she makes the day of the occasion. She does not rely on a hairstylist per say. She is frugal and the each year has done the most engagements of any of the royals. Love her style, classic, can be re-worn for years and years and still looks impeccable and well turned out. Edwina
ReplyDeleteSometimes she looks very nice. This coat is not one of them. css
ReplyDeleteLove the coat and clothing combo underneath the coat. Classic as always! scs
